Qualified immunity is a defense that police officers cannot be sued for misconduct if they were unaware at the time that their conduct was illegal and if there is no previous legal case with similar facts that ruled that officers may not engage in that conduct. Proponents argue that more intense criticism of police will disincentivize officers from doing their jobs resulting in crime rates going up. Opponents argue that police officers should be held more accountable for misconduct.

No it just gives police the power to abuse there power they are already murdering people for just reaching for a pack of skittles
@TatThunder 10mos10MO
I believe in limited immunity however I would like more outside oversight when investigating misconduct to ensure cops are not above the law if they hadn't acted in reasonable good faith.
No, because police officers can protect themselves due to corruption etc etc.
@9F8266C2yrs2Y
if the crime would be put under the murder of someone on purpose just because the officer is not a fan of them they they lose immunity. I also think that these cases should go directly to the supreme court.
@9F764XM2yrs2Y
No, Much of the police believes they are above the law. I believe that conduct should be closely monitored and police that show frequent misconduct should not be police.
@9DZCZFZ2yrs2Y
I’d say it would depend on the severity of there illegal conduct.
@9DWCC782yrs2Y
Government should not be involved; police should be disbanded and replaced with self-protection
@9CYFZ3Z2yrs2Y
No one is above the law. Don’t defund the police. Police need to have 100% liability for misconduct like the 5 Afro-American jackass policemen who beat Tyre Nichols to death unless the use of deadly force is authorized like in the case of Darren Wilson who shot and killed 19-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri who was punching him through the window of Wilson’s police SUV and trying to kill Wilson and trying to grab Wilson’s 9mm pistol.
@9C3CZ6D2yrs2Y
Absolutely not! Nobody is above the law!
@8ZKZ5WK3yrs3Y
No, unless citizens have the same right
@leftistlibertarian3yrs3Y
No, replace it with professional insurance similar to the kind doctors have
@8TH5MZ84yrs4Y
I don’t have enough knowledge on the issue to form an opinion
@8TB4CQK4yrs4Y
Yes, but scope should be much more limited
@8SF7TVF4yrs4Y
Police Officers should be held accountable for their actions but we also need to provided them with better training so that the possibility of misconduct is lowered.
@9CG56YF2yrs2Y
If thr officers is habitually abusing his authority then no.
@9CBWQKB2yrs2Y
No, but officer should be trained and better informed so this doesn’t happen
@9CBWG3C2yrs2Y
No, and provide more training to prevent misconduct
@9C5BVD92yrs2Y
State or municipalities should decide
@9BH3GK82yrs2Y
Yes, but only after funding is increased drastically to ensure that our officers should know the extent of whether something they are doing is illegal.
@96XCJCQ3yrs3Y
No, the officers should no what they are doing and if they have problems should have been educated and trained better
@9DYBW992yrs2Y
Double their consequence , public defenders should never act negatively if they were trained and chosen right
It depends on how big the event is. If it is rational, yes.
