Yes, but provide multilingual translations from government documents and services to immigrants until they become citizens

 @9YN4J9JRepublican  from Kansas  answered…6mos6MO

They should not be required, but all government forms should be in English. No company should be required to have signage in any language other than English.

 @9XKDBTZRepublican from Arkansas  answered…7mos7MO

Yes but it shouldn't affect them if they cannot a lot of immigrants have made it big in the U.S. with only knowing a tiny bit of English

 @9WC62W2Republican from Georgia  answered…7mos7MO

I don't think it should be required unless they want/need it for a job or other public qualifications.

 @9VY7Q8MRepublican from Utah  answered…7mos7MO

yes, they at least need to try they can't make us adjust for them coming to a mainly English speaking country.

 @9VQXRZVRepublican from Georgia  answered…7mos7MO

I don’t think they should have to learn English but I also don’t think Americans should have to learn other languages to accommodate them.

 @9THF3YFRepublican from North Carolina  answered…8mos8MO

I think they should make a massive effort to learn the language as they are coming to this country and that would not only better them in most ways, it would help us be able to teach these other languages to each other, I think there should be a mandatory class lasting for 6 months to a year promoting them to learn English and stick with it as well as teach American history but after the 6 months to a year time leave it up to them if they wish to continue.

 @9TH3YHQRepublican from Colorado  answered…8mos8MO

I think it is important but I think living in a certain country for a long time causes people to learn the language anyway/

 @9S4GSMWConstitution from Washington  answered…9mos9MO

Yes, and remove all other languages from documents and federal buildings. Also make English the official language and stop companies from forcing people to hear Spanish when they call.

 @9RNS4KNRepublican from Washington  answered…10mos10MO

no but in order to get any type of license there should be a basically english quiz given to make sure everyone understands what they will see on road ways

 @9RHR75KConstitution from Alaska  answered…10mos10MO

We should not demand they learn English--- but the burden of understanding should lie with the non- English speakers to figure out how to communicate.

 @9PR8T4CAmerican Solidarity from Connecticut  answered…11mos11MO

Yes, and the government should remove multi-lingual translations from documents and services as well as eliminate dual-citizenship; however, the government should provide free English courses to immigrant

 @9PGRVHGAmerican Solidarity from Illinois  answered…11mos11MO

Not but they should try to learn it as well as Americans learn Spanish as it is prominent in America as well

 @9LBPY34Constitution from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes because it can help them find jobs when they gain citizenship legally however we should also recognize their main language.

 @9KYG73LConstitution  from Utah  answered…1yr1Y

No, because assimilation of immigrants is not desirable. Immigrants should return to their homelands

 @9KNGXWDRepublican from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

No not as a general rule, however if the job calls for dealing with English speaking customers/co-workers, then the level of English comprehension and communication should be applied to those workers. Perhaps a basic, elementary level or more advanced level and it would depend on the nature of the job. If workers are only interacting with objects or others of their native tongue - then no. But if they are required to interact in a way that might affect a company's English-speaking clientele or workfore, then a company should institute those requirements based on their own specific needs.

 @9KK3RNNRepublican from Mississippi  answered…1yr1Y

Required, no, but it should be encouraged, and translation and interpretations should only be provided in heath and legal settings.

 @9KC6JHDConstitution from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

The government shouldn’t accommodate to people who want to live in this country, those that want to live here should want to learn English on their own

 @JakeRepublican  from Washington D.C.  answered…1yr1Y

No, they should not be required to learn English. However, there should be a resource for immigrants to learn English at little to no cost if they are in this country legally.

 @9H39M9LRepublican from South Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

Immigrants are required to understand english when taking the citizenship test. Immigrants need to know english to end up citizens here, it would be the same as always.

 @9GVL9PYRepublican from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Immigrants should learn English, but if they are coming over to our border illegally, they should not be allowed here in the first place.

 @9GSLXJMRepublican from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

This country benefits from the wide variety of people from different countries speaking different languages and we should welcome everyone who comes here legally. All immigrants who come into this country should be able to speak English well enough to get by in typical everyday interactions and communicating with law enforcement. If they are not at that level of speaking English when they arrive, they should learn to at least that point, but government does not have the authority to require anyone to be fluent in any language.

 @9GPFLRMRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, only if the immigrant is qualified, presented legal and has no other damaging criminal record to learn English for free or small cost provided by the government.

 @9GM9CNKRepublican from Ohio  answered…2yrs2Y

I think they don’t need to be forced but if they’re moving to a country where the population widely speaks English then they should take it spoon themselves what struggle they want to endure. Having to use google translate on everything ever. Or learn some English.

 @9GHYJHBRepublican from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

To be honest i say yes and no i say should learn some english to atleast help themselves for eaiser life

 @9FN7SRTRepublican from Illinois  answered…2yrs2Y

It should not be required but they should eventually learn it, no catering to their needs. Treat them like a normal perosn

 @9FC3N23American Solidarity from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Absolutely. English should be the official U.S. language and all foreigners should be required to take a literacy test. Those who fail should be denied citizenship, as well as the right to vote or own property on our soil, and sent back to their home country.

 @9DYJGPYRepublican from Arizona  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9DNFZTYRepublicanfrom Virgin Islands  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9D84D5BRepublican from California  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but it should be highly encouraged since it's the most common language in the U.S. and government documention is written in English.

 @9D6V4WXRepublican  from Alabama  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9R7QQXWRepublican from New Jersey  answered…10mos10MO

They shouldn’t be required, but learning English could be beneficial for them in order for there to not be misunderstandings.

 @9K3PK5DRepublican from Arkansas  answered…1yr1Y

We can't make them, but to encourage them to learn English would be smart. We are a majority English speaking country after all.

 @9JLF8JKConstitution  from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

No, the government should not force anyone to learn any language. But we should remove multilingual translations from government documents and services and ir should be on the individual immigrant to learn the english language.

 @9JJTFQXRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, so they can communicate with those that don't speak Spanish, but it doesn't have to be perfect. Still keep their language and the diversity it brings

 @9JC9C97Republican from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

No, but it should not become America's problem when they cannot function without the knowledge of English

 @9JB2LH3Republican from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

No, but keep multilingual translations in government documents and services so that they won't be taken advantage of.

 @9HJ5BWJRepublican from Arizona  answered…1yr1Y

I think they shouldn't be required to but it should be pushed to because it would benefit them to know english and should be an affordable program that should be made aware about to them.

 @9J4CSBJRepublican from Connecticut  answered…1yr1Y

No, this helps increase the disparity between the white and non-white populations and makes the white girl seem ever more attractive, although accents would have to be made unattractive first. Besides, immigration would be small in the first place.

 @99398VJRepublican from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, the major language of the country is important to retain, but it should be provided by local governments with risks for fines from state and federal governments.
