On October 7, 2013 California Governor Jerry Brown signed a state bill prohibiting law-enforcement officials from detaining an individual on the basis of a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement hold after that person becomes eligible for release, unless he or she has been charged with or convicted of certain crimes, including violent felonies.

they should be allowed depending on the crime and if it's a first offense or there's a history BUT they should NOT be mandated and it should not be one person's decision.
False accusation and imprisonment is rather disgusting even if their presence here was obtained illegally, so no.
No, as long as minor crimes are defined as nonviolent crimes. Violent crimes should warrant a person getting kicked up to the next level of authority and consequence
yes, although their crime is minor its still a crime, yet they dont need to be transfer them to immigration authorities, that would lead them to treat them differently, in this cruel world.
Perhaps. Violent crimes should result in immediate deportation. More minor non-violent crimes should be taken into consideration deportation-wise after a certain accumulated amount.
No, only if they have been charged with or convicted of a violent felony
Perhaps. The term "minor crimes" is too vague as opposed to the "learn more section. That aside, major crimes such as violent felonies should result in a being turned over to federal immigration authorities. Minor crimes should be taken into consideration after a certain accumulated amount.
It depends. The term "minor crimes" is too vague as opposed to the "learn more" section. That aside, major crimes such as violent felonies should result in a being turned over to federal immigration authorities. Minor crimes should be taken into consideration after a certain accumulated amount.
No, depending on the severity of the crime and whether they are repeat offenders. Meaning, after three consecutive non-violent crimes in a two-year span, send them back to their country. Felonies, automatic authorization to detain and transfer them to have them deported.
@9DJ9XNHWomen’s Equality2yrs2Y
I would have a back round check on the illegal immigrants , then if its "clean" then they can stay in america if that makes sense
No, for minor crimes, detaining illegal immigrants is reasonable, but deporting them for a minor crime is too far
Yes, all illegals who commit crimes should be turned over to federal authorities but not necessarily deported.
Yes, and they should be deported after an accumulated amount of minor crimes without a victim or any violent crime
No. Any encounter with immigrants by government officials should lead to the beginning of the citizenship process, if one chooses.
Yes, let local and state governments decide.
@96MRKBHWomen’s Equality3yrs3Y
If it is a major crime than yes but for minor crimes they should be treated the same as everyone else
No, Rather they should be given the opportunity to become a naturalized citizen
No, only for felonies and major crimes.
The problem is that if we deport immigrants for violent crimes, will it be used against them.
Yes and deport all races of people these asians and African illegals and citizens get away with too much
Yes and deport all races of people
No, and we should legalize all immigration and abolish ICE
It shouldn't be instantly if it was one small crime but they should hand them over if they have done major crimes like murder or don't stop committing crimes
No, their should be no immigration authorities and all immigrants should be considered legal.
No, and their should be no immigration authorities and all immigrants should be considered legal.
Illegal immigrants, when accused of minor crimes, should still have constitutional rights and have a trial by jury before making a decision about detention or deportation.
No, only if they are convicted of committing at least 3 crimes of any severity.
No, if the crime is small enough they should not be detained.
Thy can detain them but not transfer them.
@8W4Z2MKWomen’s Equality4yrs4Y
yes but also allow other options
@8VFMKP8Women’s Equality4yrs4Y
depends how big the crime is
Yes, any immigrant that does a crime should be held accountable for their actions, either by going back to their country or spending time in jail.
no, we should take into consideration their situation in life
No, but they should be ticketed, be audited for tax purposes, and compelled to begin naturalization courses immediately or risk deportation.
Yes, illegal immigrants must be properly vetted and documented so that they may be given the choice of applying for citizenship and allowing them to stay while they wait or deporting them.
There has to be a certain extent to what a crime is. But if they break the law without knowing then no, but if they intentionally meant to hurt themselves, others, or anyone in general then yes.
@8R33LWNWomen’s Equality4yrs4Y
I think that if it's a minor crime and not as major as they think. I do not think that they should be turned into and transferred to federal immigration authorities. I think that 9/10 the local law enforcement transfers them because they do not want them in the US, so they think by documenting a minor crime and deporting them will solve the problem when in reality it won't.
I depends on how long they have been here and prior criminal history
@8QH276JWomen’s Equality4yrs4Y
Up to the government to discuss
@8QFWS7XWomen’s Equality4yrs4Y
Yes to many non violent immigrants are convicted and yes there are some that are violent but I think they should do a lying detective
If the illegal immigrants haven't done anything there is no reason to deport them and separate them from their families these people are just trying to chase after what they call "the american dream".
We should select the Best qualified immigrants who can have a positive contribution to our country (selective immigration)
No, they should only be deported for repeated minor crimes or violent crimes
@8QB95QYWomen’s Equality4yrs4Y
Only if you did something majorly illegal
Yes, but let more immigrants into the country.
Yes, if they don't do anything beneficial for the country
only if they are transporting something illegal or doing something illegal
it depends on exactly what the minor crime is.But i guess if their illegal they should be transfered unless it was unwillingly/an accident.
@8PTBJRWWomen’s Equality4yrs4Y
be more spacific on what thsi mena s
@8PTB6DWWomen’s Equality4yrs4Y
give them a fair trial and a chance to be come legal
@8PRLPT8Women’s Equality4yrs4Y
Depending on what crime it is.
@8PR6PS7Women’s Equality4yrs4Y
depends how minor the crime is
if they follow the us laws and pay taxes it shouldn’t be an issue
@8PR59RFWorking Family4yrs4Y
It actually depends on what "type" of minor crime. I woul dagree most to "No, if they are convicted of a violent crime."
This should be left up to each city on if they decide to transfer them or not
Yes, as long as its minor, they should be convicted then processed.
@8N3S9CQWomen’s Equality5yrs5Y
Only if they’re not taking proper steps to become a citizen
Yes, but the process for granting citizenship should also be easier
I do not fully understand this question.
Should be dependent on the crime and situation.
They should not be here in the first place if they are illegal but the crimes should not be the reason they get in trouble.
We could put them through a process to become legal. Major crimes get them out minor crimes but them in jail for a while.
The police should be able to take care of cituation but i don't think its necsssary to transfer back to the countries
People shouldn't be detained over suspicion of minor crime
All people should be held accountable and responsible to and by the laws.. fair and equitable application with fairly applied consequences
Possibly if they actually did this and planned this but if they were forced to do it or in someway then no.
they should get in trouble but bot deported
@8LXWGHDWomen’s Equality5yrs5Y
only if they are causing harm to us if they came here to be safe from something they should be able to stay.
@8LXL4B8Women’s Equality5yrs5Y
It depends on how bad the crime was.
No, only if they are convicted of a violent crime and also, too many non-violent immigrants are being deported.
@8LWK26RWomen’s Equality5yrs5Y
yes to those who are danger to our society
@8LV88SDWomen’s Equality5yrs5Y
no, any immigrant related crime should not be handled locally
In other countries being illegal is breaking the law, just like here. There should be a path to citizenship that makes sense but being illegal is breaking the law.
Yes, but who cares if they committed a crime or not. Being Mexican is a crime in of itself
no. deal with the crime and not where they're from.
@8LQR84ZWomen’s Equality5yrs5Y
Yes, but only if the crime is violent, or extreme.
if its something small like stole a candy bar or something then no but if its like drug dealing then yes
The immagration authorties should come themselves.
@8LNG2L5Women’s Equality5yrs5Y
As long as it will be good for the people of the U.S. then again it is there opinion.
@8LKD95TWorking Family5yrs5Y
There is so much to this question. Is it a first offense? What is a minor crime?
not for minor crimes maybe for major crimes and get a fair trial.
I think they should have a choice of what authorities to be with.
Have an area for illegals to live together like we do for the Indians.
No, we should provide all people a clear path to naturalization.
Yes, but the facilities need to be improved
no, only if they do i really bad crime.
@8LC4NLFWomen’s Equality5yrs5Y
Depending on what crime they commit
Increase the number of judges and facilities to process asylum claims & address the undocumented already here.
Yes, if they are non-productive members of society.
What is a minor crime? Speeding ticket or simple theft. To grey of a question.
illegal immigrants should be transferred only if they had prior offenses or are criminals
They should only be deported if they do major illegal things, like violent crimes, and if they don't pay taxes.
@8L434YHWomen’s Equality5yrs5Y
yes, but detain them in liveable areas, not crowded areas that're filthy
i depends on what rhey did
Yes, but they should still have the presumption of innocence and due process for all other crimes
Yes, but federal immigration authorities need to provide non-violent criminals who are not charged with felonies resources to obtaining citizenship
@8G524MDWomen’s Equality5yrs5Y
Yes, but they should have the chance to apply for citizenship
@8G3FBZBWorking Family5yrs5Y
No, too many immigrants are being detained and/or deported.
Not for like a spending ticket. I do believe we need to crack down on illegal immigration but not for minor things like jaywalking, etc
Yes, but start the immigration process, dont deport them
