No, the only flag that should fly on government property is the US and the state flag. No other flags should be flown.

  @jsimicConstitution from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

No, it is a symbol of racism, separatism and treason

Dishonor

The CSA was founded in defense of slavery, committed treason against the union after Lincoln was elected, and took states rights too far.

 @SovereignFlamingo from Illinois  disagreed…2yrs2Y

The Civil War was not solely about slavery but also about economics and states' rights. The Southern states felt their rights were being trampled upon by the federal government, specifically their right to decide on issues such as slavery.

Additionally, labeling the Southern secession as "treason" is a matter of perspective. From the standpoint of the Southern states, they were exercising their right to self-determination, a principle deeply embedded in the foundation of our nation and the Declaration of Independence itself.

As for taking states' rights too far, it is more a question of finding the right balance between federal and state authority. A balance that is still being sought today in many aspects such as education, healthcare, and even marijuana legalization

No. The only flags that should be flown on government property are the American and state flag.

 @9D4Y7JBRepublican from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but not over a government house or seat of government as it is a foreign flag, unless incorporated into the state flag. Whether they choose to have the flag flown and for what purpose is up to the voters and their representatives to decide.

 @UltraCentristGuyConstitution  from California  answered…1wk1W

Part of the ruling in Walker v. Texas Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans was that government speech is subject to regulation unlike private speech. Therefore, because the flag is on government property, the government has the right to determine whether it can be flown or not.

 @B78NMZ5Republican from Wyoming  answered…2wks2W

No, that flag is the flag of an enemy to our nation. Our enemies ought not be celebrated by our government.

 @B6BPC9KRepublican from New York  answered…2mos2MO

Only official state and national flags should be flown on government property, but people should be allowed to fly any flag on personal property

 @9X7L86MRepublican  from Ohio  answered…11mos11MO

It should not be flown at federal or state buildings. But, if used for historical purposes on Civil War battlefields or at state/federal museums. That is ok. Just not used as an official flag of the state or federal government.

 @9VT2MQMRepublican from Ohio  answered…12mos12MO

I don't believe in flying the Confederate flag but don't think the federal government should have the power to prevent states from doing it.

 @9TTD33CRepublican from Nebraska  answered…1yr1Y

I think it should be fine for them to do that as long as they aren't doing it just to make people mad and start fights I believe the flag itself shouldn't be seen as a representation of racism

 @9T4VQZ6Republican from New York  answered…1yr1Y

personally I don't like this flag and think it is a simple of hate but it is a free country so fly whatever flag you want

 @9SKQQD7Republican from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

I think I understand both sides and I wouldn't want it to be interpreted wrong, so I'd say I'm neutral.

 @9S59WDCConstitution from North Dakota  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but any other national flag or other category of flag unrelated historically to the US government as a nation or the military should be banned from being officially flown on government property since it would be setting what the flag represents as equal to or above the US flag in perceived authority.

 @9RHWH2RRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

I don’t like the Confederate flag because it represents slavery but if states want to fly the rebel flag it’s their first amendment right.

 @9R6H2FTRepublican from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, each state should have the right to fly any flag they choose. In the event there is nothing wrong with it, there is nothing wrong with it. In the event there is something wrong with it, the first amendment of the Constitution will come into play.

 @9PK5JBTConstitution from New York  answered…1yr1Y

No, The government should only display the American flag, state flags, and/or flags of local cities or towns

 @9L25QM5Republican from Virginia  answered…2yrs2Y

No, states should fly the flag of our nation, states, cities, towns, and certain domestic institutions. As far as the state is concerned the confederate flag represents a nation defeated. Private citizens are free to fly it.

 @9KW55PXRepublican from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

As long as the American and their State Flag is flown in chronological order with the American Flag flown at the top with the state flag in the middle then yes. Otherwise it should be flown only on private property or museums.

 @9JLF8JKConstitution  from Michigan  answered…2yrs2Y

No, the flag is a symbol of treason against thr United States and should not be given ground on any governmental ground or building.

 @9JJQ2FTRepublican from Indiana  answered…2yrs2Y

It should not be flown on government property as it is not our country's flag, but people can decide whether or not to fly it on their own private property.

 @9J6V3ZKConstitution from Vermont  answered…2yrs2Y

No, not on government property, but it should be allowed to be flown on a homeowner's private property.

 @9HJLBVSRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

No. The United States has a flag and so does each state. The Confederate Flag was the symbol of a nation that took up arms against the United States.

 @9HBXHZ6Republican from Missouri  answered…2yrs2Y

Any state should have the right to fly their own flag as it represents the 1st amendment. The only exception would be a government site they can fly the confederate flag along with the US flag and state flag but no others as it is a professional place and should keep it professional.

 @Porge0Republican from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but it should be fully representable for the sake of the preservation of American history in any other area.

 @9G9HCDJRepublican  from Idaho  answered…2yrs2Y

No, it represents anti-Americanism as it was once the flag of rebellion against our own Government. Citizens can fly it on their own private property.

 @9FSBSGWConstitution from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, although many believe it symbolizes racism, there was actually a different meaning behind the flag originally, and it should be protected under the 1st amendment. This is similar to the topic of hate speech

 @9FHN492Republican  from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

Only if the state legislature votes on putting it up, which should be the case for any other flag besides the US and state flags.

 @9FF9LY7Republican answered…2yrs2Y

I do not fully agree with it but if you want to I think you should be able to.

 @9FDSMN3Republican from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9FCSHCTRepublican from Utah  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, and no. They have a right too, but I see it as racism because society has shown it as representing confederate beliefs.

 @9F8SN84Republican from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

The flag itself in my opinion in not inherently racist however due to negligence and skewed views I think it would be best to keep it in museums and other landmarks where you can learn more about it

 @9DZCTZ2Republican from West Virginia  answered…2yrs2Y

No, the only flags that should displayed on Government buildings are the American flag and state flags.

 @9DQBY32Republican from Ohio  answered…2yrs2Y

No government property should not fly any political flags besides the national and state flag of the USA.

 @9DP6QMLRepublican  from New Jersey  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, it is becoming increasingly less relevant as time goes by precisely because it has not been forced.

 @9D8552DRepublican from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

No, only fly a relevant flag: The National Flag, and state flag. Any other flag is unnecessary.

 @9D84D5BRepublican from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Only on Civil War battlefields and where on the battlefield the Confederates fought on.

 @9B9B39XRepublicanfrom Guam  answered…2yrs2Y

No, as it's a now defunct faction of the US and should be kept in museums

 @9B7BFQ5Republican from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

No, but you can display it anywhere else because you have the right of free speech. It's not a symbol of the nation now and it's not a state symbol so just not on government property.

 @9B5BV9ZConstitution from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

It should be voted on. It should be vigorously debated. It should not be based on a judge or a politician or worse a mob. To some it is a symbol of hate and to some it is a symbol of rebellion. So is the American Flag.

 @973WD8TRepublican from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

  @JonBSimConstitutionfrom Kentucky  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, but only at historical monuments where it was originally flown

The American swastika

It is a symbol of racism, no state has the right to fly the flag of traitors, but we shouldn't erase history.

If an individual wants to display their racism and/or historical ignorance, they have that right.

The federal gov't should have more authority, but states should have more power.

 @953DV6MRepublican from Minnesota  answered…3yrs3Y

 @94N7K8BConstitution from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

Maybe, but erasing history does not end inequality. It dooms societies to repeat the horrors of their histories.

 @94M6WCRRepublican from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @93WW549Republican from Arizona  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8ZYT8HKRepublican from Missouri  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8ZJTS84Republican from West Virginia  answered…4yrs4Y

No. The flag is a sign of rebellion against the U.S government. It may be used publicly but not in government buildings

 @7BK2VZ6Republican from Wisconsin  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, the Confederates have already lost the Civil War and thus the Confederate flag no longer represents an enemy of America

 @8ZDJ95DConstitution from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

No, because it is a very polarizing flag that means different things to different people.

 @8ZBGTM3Republican from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, as long as the flag is shown in an educational way and to commemorate the events that occurred during the Civil War and is not used in a way that highlights division and racism

 @8YZF9B3Republican from Illinois  answered…4yrs4Y

I don't see the flag as harmful. When looking at it I see history and value

 @8YQLV2PRepublican from Washington  answered…4yrs4Y

Let the people of the State determine their own flag through a legal process.

 @GummyGormley21100Republican from California  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, each state should have the right to display any flag as long as the United States Flag is flown above.

 @8YGGB9JRepublican from Illinois  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but only at historical monuments and memorials where it was originally flown and lower than the Union flag

 @8Y5L2QGConstitution from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Sure, at their own peril. Regardless of what some claim it represents, the truth is, it is universally seen as a symbol of white supremacy. You're lost if you chose to fly it.

 @8Y2RSRPConstitution from North Carolina  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8XZC96PRepublican from Illinois  answered…4yrs4Y

No, and there should be a ban on all flags on public buildings except for State and National flags.

 @8X98R3VRepublican from New York  answered…4yrs4Y

This issue isn't particularly important to me, this should be left to the states and the voters within them.

 @7BK2VZ6Republican from Wisconsin  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, as long as it is condemned for betraying America and condoning slavery

 @8X6LXJYRepublican from Illinois  answered…4yrs4Y

People need to stop the focus on the just the racial part of it and many have. I have black friends who are proud of their southern heritage. I think the feds should stay out of it and it should be a county by county thing. Local government is the best.

 @8V453G8Constitution from Utah  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TMQCNCRepublican from West Virginia  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes but only if the confederate battle flag is flown in a historical context and not as a national flag. That means it will never be flown higher than our national flag or higher than the state flag of the state where it is being flown. The confederate flag will always present honors to our national flag by dipping as it passes a stationary US Flag. The US Flag never dips for any other national flag.

 @8TL74GXRepublican from Kentucky  answered…4yrs4Y

That is up to the states to decide. I believe the Confederate flag is a symbol of treason, but I also believe that states have the right to display any symbol that they choose, and I also recognize the Confederate flag's impact in history.

 @8TF8HXXRepublican from Connecticut  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes it is freedom of speech, but personally I think it represents rebellion, racism and is anti American

 @8S3NJ2ZRepublican from Tennessee  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8RTH5PNConstitution from Virginia  answered…5yrs5Y

No, it is a historical symbol of the Democrat Party, and therefore is a political identifier.

 @8RJWBG4Constitution from California  answered…5yrs5Y

If the residents of those States wish to display or not display the Rebel Flag by a vote, then so be it. No outsider opinion's should even be considered.

 @8RJS6QRRepublican from Oklahoma  answered…5yrs5Y

It is a free country, people should be allowed to put whatever they want on the property that THEY pay taxes for. However, I hate the confederate flag and I think that it is a hateful symbol of racism.
