“It should be based upon the desires of the country in question, the needs of any oppressed groups within that country, or the legitimate security concerns of those countries whose geopolitics are directly connected to the country in question. Furthermore, as the rights upon which our laws are based are recognized as being inherent to all persons everywhere, we should offer statehood in our union to those countries who can meet given requirements for socioeconomic stability, the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (the U.S. must adopt this first), and the ratification of a state constitution that is inline with our federal constitution. All of this can be achieved by diverting a large percentage of military spending to diplomacy and intelligence gathering, though both sectors will need a greater degree of transparency and independent, non-partisan oversight.”
