Issue 7 will legalize the possession and consumption of medical marijuana by adults over the age of 21 who suffer from chronic or debilitating medical conditions. The conditions include seizures, nausea and M.S. To obtain a medical marijuana permit patients will be required to see a state licensed physician. 38 state licensed dispensaries will be opened and patients who live more than 20 miles from a dispensary will be permitted to grow their own medicine. Proponents of the issue include former U.S. Attorney General Jocelyn Elders. Opponents of the issue include Purdue Pharma (the manufacturer or OxyContin,) Abbot Laboratories (maker of the opiod Vicodi) and their Super PAC Project SAM (founded by Kevin Sabet, David Frum and Patrick Kennedy).
