In July 2022 the Biden administration issued a draft plan to expand oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. The proposal from the Department of the Interior recommends holding up to 10 lease sales in the Gulf over the next five years, as well as one sale in the Cook Inlet off the coast of south-central Alaska. Under the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, the federal government must plan for offshore oil and gas leasing on a five-year basis. The previous plan was finalized under President Barack Obama in 2016, went into effect in 2017, and expired in 2022. Opponents inclu…

No we should start looking into other alternatives to oil because eventually we are going to run out of oil.
@9SNR4RX11mos11MO
No, promote alternatives & if one dries up close it down once a new one is built to provide a habitat for the sealife.
@9MJ6R9B1yr1Y
Probably not a good long-term idea. Provide incentives for greener solutions, but keep the oil as a backup plan. It works for Norway
@9K9RQ6B 1yr1Y
Again, I would really very much prefer not to, but if other nations do so, I feel as if we need to in order to stay on top, and unfortunately I can’t see other nations withdrawing from doing this
@9K7BPZZ1yr1Y
We should keep it up enough until we have enough nuclear to hold us over till renewables are effective.
@9JYWTF51yr1Y
Yes, but more incentives for alternative energy production is necessary for it to eventually take over the use of oil wells.
@9HDXKD2Republican2yrs2Y
I think that we should work to find alternative energy production, but in that time we maintain our current offshore oil wells safely.
@9H8DVQS2yrs2Y
For now, we need to expand drilling of oil but only until we have found a substitute for oil that makes it to where we won't need to drill anymore.
@9H2HV8ZLibertarian2yrs2Y
No keep it the same, only increase if it's needed, instead provide more incentives for alternative energy production. Mostly cleaner alternatives. Try to not over pollute. And over use oil. Keep the market free.
@9GDJKBY2yrs2Y
Yes, but with strong regulation to ensure environmental and safety standards are being properly met.
Slowly transition into using clean energy such as solar power or wind turbines.
@9DHJBX72yrs2Y
Yes, but only if it’s environmentally safe
@9D7HMDY2yrs2Y
No, but maintain our current wells, and provide more incentives for alternative energy production.
@96PM5B63yrs3Y
Yes under tight regulations
@96P8JKH3yrs3Y
Yes, the U.S. needs to be energy independent.
@96HXG2X3yrs3Y
I do not have enough knowledge of this issue to have a stance
@95ZXKH23yrs3Y
I would say to not expand any more but to not shut down current ones either. Instead, focus on a new resource while keeping the old one working until the new one is ready then start shutting down the old one. If you shut down oil drilling before having a bigger and better resource that actually works then you just put people out of jobs and money.
@95WMC6Y3yrs3Y
Privatize and allow private companies to do it
@9453YZM3yrs3Y
Yes, but only in case of an emergency.
@93SHQL73yrs3Y
Yes of right now but it needs to be phased out
@92MDY65Constitution3yrs3Y
Yes, but also nationalize the energy sector
@8ZWDDXC3yrs3Y
I am unfamiliar with the issue
@8Z8GG673yrs3Y
This depends on legitimate need to the country, if we need it yes, if not no.
@8Z7VKP43yrs3Y
Yes, but increase oversight on new oil wells
@8YLCBRF3yrs3Y
Increase oversight and regulation on oil wells instead
@8Y233ZLLibertarian4yrs4Y
Companies should do what they want no one owns the ocean
@8Y22PDG4yrs4Y
Yes, but increase regulation and surveillance on these
@8XV5NXL4yrs4Y
Yes, but with surveillance and more regulated
@8XQHJ484yrs4Y
Yes, but only with permission.
@8XH56DM4yrs4Y
I think we really need to start having a plan to get off of dirty energy and to clean, green energy. This would be an area to do that
@8WY8N57Libertarian4yrs4Y
Yes and deregulate the energy sector to let the free market determine the best energy sources but provide more incentives for alternative energy production.
@8W8RH7X4yrs4Y
Yes, but with strict supervision to make sure a incident doesn't happen
@8VYG9MK4yrs4Y
Yes, but with strict supervision
@8VRK43YIndependent4yrs4Y
Yes, but increase supervision to make sure an accident doesn't happen
@8VK5WW54yrs4Y
Yes, but make sure there is supervision to prevent accidents
@8VBY2DMIndependent4yrs4Y
Yes, as long as ocean life isn't harmed
@8V7MWZR4yrs4Y
No, end all offshore drilling, nationalize energy, and move towards 100% renewable energy
@8V6D99W4yrs4Y
I believe the U.S. SHOULD be energy independent
@8TYY3WQ4yrs4Y
No, I am satisfied with the current amount
@8TBGZTP4yrs4Y
Yes but only with Strict regulations
@8SZTY6DIndependent4yrs4Y
Yes, we need to obtain these resources, but only under government regulation.
@8S6Z8XY4yrs4Y
Yes but have stronger regulations against it
@8S3SQNK4yrs4Y
Yes, and deregulate the energy sector to let the free market determine the best energy sources. We must start providing incentives to find an alternate energy production.
@8RQHGSL4yrs4Y
Yes, if it is needed due to low amounts of oil.
@8RPT62WLibertarian4yrs4Y
Leave the current oil wells, but prioritize American oil.
@8RNNX884yrs4Y
Keep our current offshore wells, but provide more incentives for alternative energy production.
@8RMCBHY4yrs4Y
@8RLQ48B4yrs4Y
Yes, but there should be reasonable government regulation.
@8RH9S834yrs4Y
I think that getting rid of oil wells completely is foolish, but we should also be actively looking for alternatives to oil in the meantime
@8RH6QCR4yrs4Y
I need to educate myself more
@8R79TNG4yrs4Y
Yes, if its owned by the U.S.
@8QX824LRepublican4yrs4Y
There should be fans to slowly phase out fossil fuils while preparing for new jobs for renewable energy. 30 year plan.
@8QWZT874yrs4Y
yes, but push for more green practices and ensure that safety standards are raised much more for environmental safety standards to prevent incidents such as the BP oil spill in the Gulf.
@8QWV52J4yrs4Y
Yes and recruit x-Military veterans for security to prevent pirates form raiding
@8QQB5GM4yrs4Y
The government should have no input over what private companies do with their resources as long as they obey US law.
@8QP69BQ4yrs4Y
We should put more research In to hydrogen for fuel and electric cars
@8QGVRNR4yrs4Y
They should slowly try and stop using oil as a major energy source.
We need more investment in green energy.
@8QCTCQ95yrs5Y
No they should not expand offshore oil drilling. They should maintain the current oil wells while finding a better alternative energy production.
@8QBLMJJ5yrs5Y
No, we should start to direct more towards renewable and natural energy
No, return to primitive energy use.
@8Q8R4T55yrs5Y
No. We need to come up with alternatives to oil at some point and we never will if we just keep drilling.
@8Q7ZNWP5yrs5Y
No, and decrease energy consumption
@8PWBDDNLibertarian5yrs5Y
Only if it isn’t harming other cities, people, or animals
@8PT6CW45yrs5Y
yes but only by limiting how much we expand so we do not over do it
@8PRB6H65yrs5Y
No, it poses too great of an environmental threat by releasing toxic pollution into our air and water.
@8PFJ56H5yrs5Y
Yes, but only to keep competition up with foreign countries so we don’t rely heavily on them.
@8PCSSN55yrs5Y
I don't think that it should really expand
Yes, Money never lies and oil gives us money.
@8NBH9T55yrs5Y
No, but make drilling companies 100% responsible for any spills, leaks, or ecological issues that arise through their efforts.
@8N6PBKC5yrs5Y
were destroying this earth more and more we need to try our hardest to find renewable sources of everything
@8N359F25yrs5Y
Yes but make it more protective from leaks.
@8MKJ2SH5yrs5Y
No, but they should decrease it
@8LMS2CP5yrs5Y
@8LMG42X5yrs5Y
No, only if we are running out of oil only then should we start drilling offshore.
@8KFQ79X5yrs5Y
Yes, if demand permits it
@8KFDTTK5yrs5Y
yes, but they need to savor it and not use all of it
I believe it can be good, if done properly, just like with nuclear. We seem hear about big oil spills from one of these all the time, which can lead to you thinking that its bad, but just like Chernobyl this doesn't happen very often, although it does happen more often than nuclear.
@8KD3YXB5yrs5Y
Yes but add more protection in order to keep the ocean safe
@8KBDQR45yrs5Y
Only if it can be done in an environmental friendly way
@8KB9M96Republican5yrs5Y
Yes, if there is demand for private companies to do it
@8H3Q2835yrs5Y
The US should be able to drill anywhere as long as they're within their territories.
@8GZC8NRRepublican5yrs5Y
No, do what is necessary to maintain operations within the US but promote new energy alternatives to eventually reduce oil dependency
@8GM6XR45yrs5Y
It should be limited and we should find another source.
@8FN3NFPRepublican5yrs5Y
Yes while incentivizing alternative energy production
@8CVGNC65yrs5Y
Yes but only drill in ocean dead zones or near volcanic areas
@8CML2N3Libertarian5yrs5Y
no, but maintain our current offshore oil wells while looking for more incentives for alternative energy production
@8CG6CX55yrs5Y
Yes but keep researching for clean fuel
@9CWKHKB2yrs2Y
Yes, but only if done safely & with the environment & workers well-being in mind.
@9C2Z3CWConstitution2yrs2Y
America will take everything from the rest of the world we are the greatest country in the world nobody else matters
@99SBTDX2yrs2Y
No, More incentives for nuclear energy and safety.
@99DH4S42yrs2Y
Yes, and provide incentives for alternative energy production (ie oils from algie that can be turned into gassoline, incourage the reclaming of used cooking oils for deasile).
@99BRVXH2yrs2Y
@98XBQ2K2yrs2Y
No, they should be finding better sources of elemental energy and element based energy sources.
@98X3D3B2yrs2Y
No, but reopen the Alaskan Pipeline
@98WKM6N2yrs2Y
I believe that offshore oil drilling is too much of a risk. Many animals and plants are put in danger from it. Do not forget the Deepwater Horizon incident.
@97QBS643yrs3Y
Yes, but incentivize energy companies to develop green energy through tax breaks.
