Should the U.S. expand offshore oil drilling?

In July 2022 the Biden administration issued a draft plan to expand oil and gas drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and Alaska. The proposal from the Department of the Interior recommends holding up to 10 lease sales in the Gulf over the next five years, as well as one sale in the Cook Inlet off the coast of south-central Alaska. Under the 1953 Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act, the federal government must plan for offshore oil and gas leasing on a five-year basis. I think we should use our fossil fuels now, while we improve our technological advances. This would help our climate change for the long run and we could gradually evolve towards the elimination of fossil fuels.
