The United States should remain in the United Nations, as a symbol to the world, and we should if possible contributes to United Nations peacekeeping missions. But we must also remember that the United States has its own interest that can sometimes conflate with the UN agenda, and we must be ready to stand our ground against the UN if the They should ever come that it becomes hostile to the United States.
@9ZRG8TB8mos8MO
Yes, and more should be done to also prevent the power the US (and any one country) has to block ceasefire and investigation into genocide, including arrest of war criminals.
@9XPWJJ69mos9MO
Yes but the other nations should continue to keep up there part of the deal or else we should pull out
@Ravencrest4810mos10MO
Yes, but the United Nations should take the place of the United States in its involvement in funding and defense of foreign nations.
@9TBZS5P11mos11MO
Yes. Allow the UN to handle conflicts between other countries and spend our money in our own country
@9SLXSRRIndependent11mos11MO
No, unless it’s role and influence is scaled back appropriately and it only serves in an advisory position and funding is commiserate with each member’s ability to pay.
@9R3GMSH1yr1Y
Yes, because the U.N. can sometimes be a useful symbolic propaganda venue, but is generally useless.
@9LQ7RB21yr1Y
Yes, but we need to quit spending so much money in other nations and try focusing on our own country or vets.
@9KFSKNS1yr1Y
No, the United Nations should be among the European countries that it mostly encompasses, while the U.S. could join a different league able to protect the western part of the world.
@9JVF5NC1yr1Y
Yes and no only when a true ally that we trade with and associate with is in danger or trouoble if not leave us out
Yes, but we should no longer use it as an arm of American imperialism.
@9F2KKMM2yrs2Y
The U.S. should remain as a member, however, there should be more involvement in being humanitarian aids.
@9DVGVXX2yrs2Y
Yes, but we should not be subject to the whims and demands of other nations.
@9DP998F2yrs2Y
Yes but reduce foreign involvement on a military level unless Human rights are violated by an individual third party/entity
@9DL4DNM 2yrs2Y
Yes, but pass legislation in the U.N. that removes communist or fascist countries from the organization and especially the U.N. Security Council.
@9CJ6CB62yrs2Y
We need to stay in the U.N. but focus power on how much people actually spend in that area. We should also use it not as a tool for american ideals, but as a way to lift nations up and become strong allies rather than enemies. It'll have heavy benefits for all nations that strive to be heavily involved, and will provide resources to countries that want a stake in the world the same way we do. IT's got lots of possible ability but it's use is not in the interest of humankind.
@99VDHH8Progressive2yrs2Y
the U.S military should be democratized into the UN Peacekeeping force, acting as a bullwark of democracy and human rights.
@99JQZBF2yrs2Y
We, as a country should stand united with those who are our allies, though that does not mean we have to fight in all of their battles for them.
@99D9X3M2yrs2Y
Yes, but let anyone who wants to leave, leave.
@93Q6G2B3yrs3Y
Yes if we remove Russia.
@92NLKFMLibertarian3yrs3Y
Yes we should stay in, but the UN needs reformation. No one on the Security Council should have veto power. The UN charter needs to be enforced, and UN troops need to be sent in whenever civilian populations are endangered. The UN needs to promote in a more agressive manner, peaceful resolutions of international disputes, and it should sanction any nation that invades another nation. All nations should be subject to the World Court, and any Nation committing atrocities needs to be tried in the World COurt.
@8Z2XTXN3yrs3Y
Yes, and we need to respect other nations more than we do now.
@8Y6KKYSProgressive4yrs4Y
Only if the UN enforces international law and doesn't allow moneyed interests to take over.
@8XQN97Z4yrs4Y
Until it gets to bad then we back out
@8X5J2SN4yrs4Y
yes but with a background check
@8X242Y54yrs4Y
This is not relevant to the Virginia governors race
@8WZ6WJH4yrs4Y
U.D.N. = "United Democratic Nations" only invite nations that employ a democratic system of government? The U.N. is an organization of governments founded in 1945 after World War II. The organization's objectives include promoting peace and security, protecting human rights and the environment and providing humanitarian aid in cases of famine, natural disaster, and armed conflict. Recent U.N. interventions include the Sri Lankan civil war in 2009 and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The U.S. joined the U.N. as a founding member in 1945. The U.S. is the largest financial contributor to the UN and contributes more than $650 million annually.
@8WXJFTP4yrs4Y
it depends on what you want to do
@8WSVFNH4yrs4Y
It just think that it depends on the society
@8WRH64Y4yrs4Y
The UN is overall an ineffective body and has no actual power to regulate the actions of countries, however it is still somewhat beneficial for the US to remain involved.
@8WM3VGX4yrs4Y
Yes, but add more pressure to the U.N. to uphold their end of the bargain (most countries fall behind in one area or another). With potential deadlines which once hit will receive some kind of consequence from the U.S.
@8WLZHWH4yrs4Y
and idk because the united states did some good and bad things.
@8WHRHWJLibertarian4yrs4Y
We are the united nations lol what?
@8WFYQWY4yrs4Y
Yes but it depends on the quantity
@8WCZXLYLibertarian4yrs4Y
The UN should remain in the UN, but the UN has no right in dictating our laws / actions. Until the UN becomes the world Government, we have enough to deal with here.
@8WCH4N44yrs4Y
I do not even know how that effects me.
@8WBSJMBRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes, but only if the institution of the UN is reformed and remodeled to reflect current global realities rather than the outmoded norms of the cold war era (particularly a reapportionment of the security council and the way power is wielded within the entire UN body).
@8W6HPH94yrs4Y
i dont even know what that means
@8W6H9LC4yrs4Y
yes but scale back our involvement and put america
@8W5H79T4yrs4Y
It depends on what theyd like
I think that the United Nations needs to be better at their job of protecting the peace and people.
@8VZ2PC34yrs4Y
Yes, but only if it does not affect us negatively.
@8VVQWDL4yrs4Y
No, until a fairer representation is reached our involvement should be limited.
@8VTNXQ44yrs4Y
Yes, and The UN need reform.
@8VTKHVJ4yrs4Y
Yes, but the known terrorist cant come in
@8VQNGHS4yrs4Y
No, the UN has become unless in the past decade
@8TQ9CJ44yrs4Y
Have to research this more before I answer
@8TM66D54yrs4Y
Yes and keeps checks and balances on Russia and China.
@8T7RT69Republican4yrs4Y
Yes, but only to effect our national interest and combat our adversaries around the world.
@8T7QKSZ4yrs4Y
Yes, and use the U.N. peacekeeping forces to protect our interests, but scale back our annual contributions while other countries increase theirs because the U.S. is stretched financially.
@8T5VXY34yrs4Y
Yes. But each country pays an equal share. If this is not met in 1 year, US should withdraw. No single country should be ponying up more than another country in terms of resources, money, etc. This helps to ensure each has an equal voice.
@8T38CKQIndependent4yrs4Y
There are pro’s and con’s.
We should withdraw from the UN, give New York City to it, and then fire bomb that hell hole till it's dust.
@8SRNLKR4yrs4Y
I agree with user @5RX7VY4: "Donald Trump is correct. We need to renegotiate our affiliation with both the UN and NATO. If they cannot begin to provide funding for their own operations, then they need to go. The US has become their funding for anything they choose to do and America is fed up paying for their nonsense. We either need to have more control over what they choose to do or they need to get other countries to pay for it!"
@8SRHYMV4yrs4Y
Yes, but cut all U.S. funding.
@8SR5T7NRepublican4yrs4Y
Yes, and punish malicious foreign powers that are taking advantage of the structure like China and Iran are currently with the human and women's rights councils.
@8S9YRGB4yrs4Y
To me that's the US choice.
In all honesty, I don't have enough knowledge on the matter, in my opinion, to properly access the reason to leave or remain in the United Nations, therefore, I'd like to skip this.
@8S5GTV94yrs4Y
The US should remain part but we shouldn’t have to pay for other countries problems
@8RWRXCD4yrs4Y
No , In my opinion America is one of the worst countries.
If it doesnt hurt us then why not?
@8RPV8QMIndependent4yrs4Y
Neither, We'll be fine either way.
No because the United Nations remains ineffective.
@8RCNY3WLibertarian4yrs4Y
Only in as much as it helps spread free trade and human rights.
@8R5V8KF4yrs4Y
Focus on US issues first
@8QSS3534yrs4Y
Yes but require other nations to step up their funding, military support, etc
@8PFZF685yrs5Y
No, not until they grant Taiwan a seat in the General Assembly
@8P9GJHZ5yrs5Y
Yes and No but scale back our current involvement
@8NRCYSBLibertarian5yrs5Y
Yes but move the UN out of the USA and stop funding so much of it.
@8LQ3DJ55yrs5Y
yes but make sure all countries are paying their share
@8L2VFY85yrs5Y
no, but keep diplomatic options open
@8KSHXBZ5yrs5Y
Yes, but make other countries participate more in peace keeping efforts
@8JLCZ4R5yrs5Y
Yes, get other countries to fulfill their obligations
Yes, the U.S. should never back out of the United Nations completely
@8GGNZJG5yrs5Y
I feel like it is good for security however, I feel like we need alliances with other countries in case of a emergency.
@8F9NSPC5yrs5Y
Yes but scale back spend.
@8F5KSGP5yrs5Y
Yes, but we should be able to abstain from involvement in resolutions that will have negligible effect for the US
@9BJZP9F2yrs2Y
Yes. But all other nations should be made to pay their fair share
@9BBYY832yrs2Y
Yes, but the international security committee rules should be changed so we dont have so much power.
@9B585CM2yrs2Y
Yes, and give legitimacy to the organization by ceasing violations of international law and further cooperating with international entities
@99W48Q5Republican2yrs2Y
Yes but only to keep talking with our allies.
@99VPR582yrs2Y
@98MFYS8Republican3yrs3Y
No ,the UN is outdated and should be abolished
@98LTFF63yrs3Y
No, the UN should be abolished completely
@8WX2B454yrs4Y
Mixed feelings. I support active interaction with other countries, including through the UN. I also recognize the UN is not a neutral forum for the free exchange of ideas and many of its stances are antithetical to the concept of individual liberty.
@8WVJS9Z4yrs4Y
@8WCF9S34yrs4Y
Only if all those in the UN are contributing and the UN is equal in it's handling of issues.
@8L7STB65yrs5Y
Yes only at equal advantage and expense as other members
@8G34H7S5yrs5Y
Yes if everyone does their fair share
@9B2ZVXFNatural Law2yrs2Y
We should make our own UN but with the states.
@8T3FSH84yrs4Y
Yes and No, and use the U.N. peacekeeping forces to protect our interests and remove the U.N. headquarters from the U.S. but scale back our current involvement
@iknowhowtospellcalm5yrs5Y
Yes, but scale back our current involvement after reforming the security council. We must ensure our actions are more multi-lateral.
