Subsidising demand in a supply constrained market like housing will lead to rent price inflation and achieve absolutely nothing. Just allow developers to build more housing through deregulation, abolish demand subsidies like Fannie Mae and backed mortgages and end preferable taxation of real estate compared to stocks, so investors will invest into stocks rather than drive up housing prices.

landlords who own and rent properties for the sake of profit should be required to long in their buildings with the tenants
