The United States and Indonesia have reached a major trade agreement that will see Indonesia eliminate tariffs on over 99% of American goods and remove key non-tariff barriers, opening up significant market access for U.S. businesses.
In return, the U.S. will impose a 19% tariff on Indonesian exports, lower than the previously threatened 32%, and Indonesia will lift export restrictions on critical minerals vital to U.S. industries. The deal also includes large purchases of U.S. agricultural products and Boeing jets by Indonesia. Both governments tout the agreement as a win for their economies, with the U.S. expecting at least $50 billion in new market access.
The agreement is seen as a strategic move in global trade, impacting sectors from agriculture to technology and minerals.
