This is just more state power being used to criminalize poverty instead of actually addressing the root causes of homelessness. Pushing people out of sight with police sweeps does nothing but disrupt lives and make survival even harder. If Newsom really cared, he’d challenge the system that creates homelessness in the first place—like unaffordable housing and wage inequality—instead of empowering cities to act like bullies. Real compassion means supporting autonomy and meeting people’s needs, not just clearing them out to make things look nicer for the wealthy.
