Honestly, it’s hard to see how cozying up to authoritarian regimes in the Middle East is going to benefit everyday Americans or promote real stability. Strengthening ties with countries that have questionable human rights records just sends the wrong message about what the US stands for. Instead of chasing short-term influence, we should be pushing for diplomacy that actually supports democracy and peace in the region.
