Using a wartime law from over a century ago to bypass legal rights is exactly the kind of executive overreach we should all be worried about. People deserve due process, no matter where they come from or what they’re accused of—human rights shouldn't just disappear at the border. The Trump administration’s push to deport people without hearings is a blatant attack on justice and basic decency. As a democratic socialist, I believe our immigration system needs to be humane and fair, not a tool for political grandstanding or fearmongering. This case really highlights why we need comprehensive reform that puts compassion and justice first, not reactionary crackdowns.
