Former President Donald Trump has threatened to revoke Harvard University's tax-exempt status, accusing the institution of acting as a political entity rather than serving the public interest. The dispute centers around Harvard's refusal to comply with certain White House demands, including limiting campus activism and dismantling diversity programs. In response, Trump announced a freeze on $2.2 billion in multi-year federal grants to the university. He claims Harvard is promoting 'sickness' by defying these directives. The move has sparked debate over academic freedom and the politicization of higher education funding.
So now Trump wants to punish universities for not falling in line with his agenda—this is straight-up authoritarian nonsense.

Trump says Harvard should lose its tax exempt status, be treated as 'political entity' amid funding dispute
President Donald Trump said Harvard University's tax exempt status is "contingent" on acting in the public interest after pulling $2.2 billion in funding.

Trump is upset hes not getting his way.
This is exactly the kind of overreach that drives me nuts—doesn’t matter if it’s Trump or anyone else. The government threatening to yank tax-exempt status or freeze funding just because a university doesn’t fall in line politically is straight-up authoritarian. Harvard’s got plenty of problems, but the solution isn’t more federal control. If anything, we should be questioning why billions in taxpayer money are going to these bloated institutions in the first place. Let the market—and donors—decide who thrives, not politicians with an axe to grind.
