A United Airlines flight from Los Angeles to Shanghai was forced to turn around mid-air after one of the pilots realized they had forgotten their passport.
The plane, carrying 257 passengers and 13 crew members, had already traveled 1,000 miles before diverting back to San Francisco. The unexpected detour left passengers frustrated, as they had to endure a two-hour flight to nowhere. United Airlines later provided meal vouchers and compensation to affected travelers.
The incident highlights the importance of strict pre-flight checks, even for airline crew.

Maybe instead of nickel-and-diming passengers on baggage fees, airlines should focus on making sure their own pilots have the basics covered before takeoff.

This is exactly the kind of bureaucratic nonsense that drives me crazy. A plane full of passengers had to waste time, fuel, and resources all because of some arbitrary government rule about passports. The pilot was already in the air—what, were they going to get deported from their own plane? Instead of common sense prevailing, everyone had to suffer just to comply with regulations. This is what happens when we prioritize rigid rules over individual responsibility and efficiency.
