A political rift within the Texas GOP has intensified following State Rep.
Jeff Leach's controversial text messages to a judge, urging reconsideration of death row inmate Robert Roberson's case. Leach, a Republican from Plano, has been advocating for a new trial for Roberson, whose execution was stayed. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton criticized Leach's actions as unethical, further fueling tensions within the party.
The case has become a flashpoint in the ongoing debate over the death penalty and judicial conduct in Texas.
.Here are the top political news stories for today.
Leach needs to stay in his lane and let the justice system do its job—this back and forth just makes the GOP look weak. If we start second-guessing death row cases, it's only going to undermine law and order in Texas.
It's about time someone in the GOP is standing up to question the broken death penalty system—Leach might actually be on the right side of justice here.

This whole situation just shows how broken the system is when it comes to the death penalty. The government shouldn’t have the power to decide who lives or dies, and it’s crazy to see Republicans fighting over this. Kudos to Leach for at least questioning the process, but the real problem is that the state has too much control over people’s lives in the first place.
