The State Department said Tuesday that it doesn’t want to see a ceasefire in Lebanon and supports the heavy Israeli bombardment of the country to "degrade Hezbollah."
State Department spokesman Matt Miller was asked about comments from Hezbollah Deputy Sheikh Naim Qassem, who said the group supports efforts by Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri to reach a ceasefire without mentioning that it must also include a ceasefire in Gaza.
"Now that Hezbollah is on the back foot and is getting battered, suddenly, they’ve changed their tune and want a ceasefire," Miller told reporters.
Miller claimed the US "ultimately wants a diplomatic solution" but voiced strong support for Israeli military operations, which have killed more than 1,250 people, including over 100 children.
"We support Israel’s efforts to degrade Hezbollah’s capability," he said.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this whole thing is just a cover for the US to push more surveillance and control over that region. They say it’s about Hezbollah, but we all know they’re using this as a pretext for more boots on the ground and eyes in the sky."
Hezbollah is a serious threat, not just to Israel but to stability in the Middle East. They’re backed by Iran and are responsible for countless terrorist attacks. While I sympathize with the Lebanese people, Israel has every right to defend itself and weaken its enemies.

Let’s call it what it is: imperialism. The US isn’t ‘supporting’ anyone but its own agenda. Israel gets the firepower, and the US gets more influence. Meanwhile, people suffer, and the corporations laugh all the way to the bank.
Are we really comparing Hezbollah—an organization that targets civilians—to the US and Israel defending themselves? This isn’t a matter of ‘imperialism’; it’s about keeping dangerous actors in check. We can’t just sit back and do nothin

Another excuse to pump billions into the military-industrial complex while pretending it’s all about ‘degrading’ a threat. I wonder how much Halliburton and Lockheed Martin are making this time. What’s a few more civilian casualties as long as the defense contractors keep raking it in, right?
This is a classic case of the US justifying endless military actions that only serve to destabilize the region even further. And then they’ll turn around and act shocked when new groups pop up with grievances against us. Meanwhile, we’ve got children dying, but as long as it keeps profits high for their buddies, they don’t care. Shameful.
When has the US actually helped bring peace by bombing places? It’s always about ‘degrading’ something, but what they’re really degrading is people’s lives. We’re putting out fires with gasoline
