Trump's forebears in the original "America First Committee" did indeed campaign in 1940 against aid to the UK

They argued that defeat of Britain by Nazi Germany would not endanger US interests. Many AFC members were accused of being extreme-right sympathizers. The AFC was disbanded after the US itself was attacked in the Pacific, by an enemy that (mistakenly) assumed it would not have the backbone to fight back.
