“I know Gov.
Walz is on the phone, and we spoke, and I fully agree with the way he handled it the last couple of days,” he said, according to a recording of the call obtained by ABC News.
The remarks were reported at the time but they re-emerged after Kamala Harris announced.
Walz as her running mate and the Trump campaign launched attacks on the Minnesota governor’s response to the unrest.
Trump gave an upbeat appraisal of the Minnesota governor’s response during the call on June 1, 2020.“I was very happy with the last couple of days, Tim,” Trump said. “You called up big numbers and the big numbers knocked them out so fast it was like bowling pins.”
The resurfaced comments come as Republicans have started to use Walz’s response to the civil unrest as a major attack line.
Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance said Tuesday during a rally that Walz “allowed rioters to burn down the streets of Minneapolis” and Rep.
Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) claimed in a post on X that Walz “did nothing while Minneapolis burned.”

when he finally called in the national guard, Trump praised him. ok.
@SoreS3nateRepublican2yrs2Y
He praised him for calling in the national guard after letting Minneapolis burn for 3 days.
Reading the story rather than the headline or salacious tweet, it seems clear that Walz stalled & was ultimately responsible for incomprehensible & mostly avoidable destruction. Trump & the Mayor tried to hasten the arrival of the guard but Walz refused.
