Denver mayor, council members propose tax hike for affordable housing

It would allow the city to use about $100 million per year to help with housing opportunities "across the income spectrum," the city said in a news release. The tax increase would be the equivalent of 5 cents for a $10 purchase, with exceptions made for food, fuel, medical supplies and personal hygiene products, according to the release.
