This is insane. Outdated regulation referring to the "No Smoking" sign on airplanes—a complete anachronism, as everyone knows smoking is prohibited—is why United had to ground its planes.

This exact thing happened to me last year. I was on my way to my brothers wedding and we sat for hours because they were trying to “reboot” the plane to get the non-smoking lights to work. They never did get it to work so after sitting there for hours we all had to get off and find other flights. So ridiculous.

Do you realize just how many hundreds of thousands of outdated laws there are? This one is dumb, but I hardly think it

warrants being top of the pile over something actually important. It’s lazy to just blame the government for everything you don’t like without taking the big picture into consideration.

More importantly, it’s not a law congress passed, it’s a rule implemented by the FAA.

Do you believe that the government should be flexible with airlines over minor issues, or should every rule be applied consistently?

How important do you think it is for regulations like the 'No Smoking' sign rule to be strictly adhered to, even when safety isn't directly affected?
