-The the Biden administration is considering that recognizing a Palestinian state should possibly be the first step in negotiations to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict instead of the last, the senior U.S. official said.
-For decades, U.S. policy has been to oppose the recognition of Palestine as a state both bilaterally and in UN institutions and to stress Palestinian statehood should only be achieved through direct negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority.
-The Biden administration is linking possible normalization between Israel and Saudi Arabia to the creation of a pathway for the establishment of a Palestinian state as part of its post-war strategy. This initiative is based on the administration's efforts prior to Oct. 7 to negotiate a mega-deal with Saudi Arabia that included a peace agreement between the kingdom and Israel.
-Saudi officials have publicly and privately made clear since Oct. 7 that any potential normalization agreement with Israel would be conditioned on the creation of an "irrevocable" pathway towards a Palestinian state.
The U.S. can:
-Bilaterally recognizing the state of Palestine
-Not use its veto to block the UN Security Council from admitting Palestine as a full UN member state.
-Encouraging other countries to recognize Palestine.

How dare they?! Why reward terrorism until proof emerges that a society no longer believes in it?
@LeopardLarryDemocrat2yrs2Y
Biden knows nothing about this area or Israel.
This is definitely one way to make sure Bibi wins again, and there won't be a Palestinian state in the next 30 years
So Hamas and Iran got everything they wanted out of the Oct 7 terrorist attack?
@H0u5eBagelsGreen2yrs2Y
The Palestinian people have an inalienable right to self determination that has been denied for decades. It cannot be invalidated by the actions of Hamas, Iran, or any other party.
@Centr1stPatSocialist2yrs2Y
Hamas has no interest in a Palestinian state. Iran has no interest in American involvement with a Palestinian state. And this is the only solution for a stable middle east, it was before 7.10 and it still us since.
@TalentedPandaDemocrat2yrs2Y
"Most analysts say the answer must involve Gazans who aren’t in Hamas and some role for a revamped Palestinian Authority. Netanyahu’s national security adviser has said that could be the answer. But the premier himself hasn’t backed it.
No option is popular with Israelis, opinion polls suggest. Still, political analysts say the role of any prime minister is to make unpopular decisions in a time of crisis and explain why the national interest requires it."
Current state of Israeli politics:
-If elections were held now, the National Unity Party of Benny Gantz would defeat Netanyahu’s Likud.
-Gantz has neither called for nor ruled out working with the Palestinian Authority and working toward a Palestinian state.
-Gantz, who joined Israel’s war cabinet after Oct. 7, is widely seen as more flexible than Netanyahu on both issues. Netanyahu has attacked Gantz for being ambiguous. A Gantz-led coalition wouldn’t include the far-right parties that have constrained Netanyahu.
One result of this war is that the vast majority of Jewish Israelis now, and for the foreseeable future, want nothing to do with a Palestinian state and see all potential Palestinian leaderships as terrorist (this includes ancient Abu Mazen). If you think Gantz is going to be able to force a two state solution down the Israeli public's throat - well, it'll be interesting to see him try.
While Netanyahu bears heavy responsibility for the disaster of October 7 and should go, he continues to understand Israeli public opinion better than his rivals. That's his mortal sin in everyone else's eyes.
Biden wants to save Israel from itself, and is looking for an Israeli politician who is willing to shove their chosen nostrums down the Israeli public's throat. It's most unlikely to happen, whoever wins the next Israeli election.
@GraciousC1v1cRepublican2yrs2Y
They don't understand that peace process was literally murdered in October 7. It's dead. Israel is fighting for survival. Netaniahu has to be given credit for resisting European and American pressure and fighting for Israel's interests
Sorry Biden, you need the approval of the Senate to make decisions like that. Read the Constitution once in a while... or turn up your hidden hearing aids and have your wife read it aloud to you in case you're so blind with age you can't make out phrases like 'all treaties must be approved by the Senate' & 'the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed'...

“approval of the Senate”
Whether you agree with this move or not, this is incorrect. The president has the sole authority to recognize foreign governments, as reinforced by Zivotofsky v Kerry in 2002. Yes, senate can make that difficult via acts like not funding am embassy or recognizing formal treaties, the president still has the power to recognize a foreign government. This power is derived from interpretations of Article 2, section 3 of the constitution. Hope this clears your confusion up if you misread or didn't read the constitution!
Oh, I actually did read the Constitution, unlike you, Glacierbear, who advocate for SO MANY unconstitutional federal programs, according to your answers to the quiz, that it would take hours to list them. The Supreme Court does not have ANY AUTHORITY to determine what's constitutional and be the sole judge of the extent of its own powers (you may not have known that because YOU haven't read the Constitution!) And the Senate clearly must approve all wars, all treaties, and all agreements with foreign governments. Your comment is so embarrassingly false I suggest you instantly delete it before you ruin your reputation on this site.

Aside from the fact that you’re a little obsessed with me right now and are trying to bully me into deleting a fact, let’s break down the facts.
You cite opinion, which is understandable because you markedly are emotionally charged about this topic rather than rationally so. SCOTUS does have the authority to determine what is constitutional and what isn’t, they are the supreme law of the land based on Marbury v. Madison. Reading the constitution, like you clearly haven’t, doesn’t establish was has happened since then :)
They have ruled, and so the constitution says… Read more

I wasn't bullying you, I was stating the truth. It seems silly to small-talk on a political debate website like this, if you want to be complimented and pandered to go elsewhere.

Evidence that Israel is committing war crimes is mounting and the USs continued support, in word and in monetary value, is more and more opposed to our values of freedom for all, and justice.
@9JK84X82yrs2Y
Palestine deserves sovereignty and rights as their own country separate from Israel, although I despair of finding a peaceful solution, especially in light of recent events.

I think it is important to recognize a Palestinian state as well and have a cease fire in the region.

@RelishGraceGreen2yrs2Y
As the UK came up with the same lines yesterday, I'd guess its just stalling because they can see how bad their decisions are now becoming. Trying to take a bit of the heat away.
I'll believe it when I see it.
