Yes, and permanently end it

 @B543FJGRepublican from Pennsylvania  disagreed…2mos2MO

I believe that gas prices will remain the same, regardless of whether the gas tax is in place or not, as it is intended to generate revenue for the government. They should also provide better road conditions for the people.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...3yrs3Y

Yes, and the government needs to lift restrictions on oil companies and pump more gas

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...3yrs3Y

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...3yrs3Y

No, this would increase inflation

 @B543FJGRepublican from Pennsylvania  agreed…2mos2MO

This will increase inflation on all products that travel in and out of the US. The more gas is, the more transportations is, which then increases all prices.

 @96Y2VYW from Iowa  answered…3yrs3Y

Yes, and nationalize the energy sector

  @TheHillbillyLordRepublican from Maryland  disagreed…3mos3MO

Mao tried to collectivize the farms and starved half his population because of it. You really want to follow suit with the energy production on what Mao did to the farms?

 @9F9WCPXRepublican from Virginia  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but temporarily until prices of gas decline, and lift the restrictions on oil and gas companies and pump more gas.

 @9F9YJ5H from Oklahoma  answered…2yrs2Y

  @MrBot from Maine  answered…1wk1W

No, but decrease it and the government needs to lift restrictions on oil companies and pump more gas

 @B5WKH78 from South Carolina  answered…1wk1W

Taxes should be slowly reworked and integrated elsewhere. You're buying gas, not a road or infrastructure. I think paying tax is buying the goods and works of the country, but I don't think there should be such vertical integration in a necessary every-day product. It creates problems off of greed.

 @9RGF8FMGreen from Tennessee  answered…11mos11MO

Not unless it is absolutely needed, because it should be used to fund investments into renewable energy

 @9QX9MBTRepublican from Colorado  answered…12mos12MO

No, it screws over consumers by forcing customers in lower-tax states to cover for the mistakes of higher-tax states like California and New York

 @9M7X92J from North Dakota  answered…1yr1Y

I think that most taxes should be voluntary. And where taxes have to be compulsory they should be clear, visible, and strictly regulated and even more strictly limited.

 @9LZKW7D  from Indiana  answered…1yr1Y

No, but the funds must only be used for transportation infrastructure and adjusted to match fundiong needed.

 @9LCV4QB from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

The federal government can keep their current gas tax rate. There should be a cap on what states can charge for gas tax!

 @9LC522FLibertarian  from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, permanently end it and the government needs to lift restrictions on oil companies and pump more gas.

  @9JXZQZRLibertarian  from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

No, but the federal gasoline tax should be exclusively earmarked for the maintenance and development of federal roads, rather than being diverted into the general fund.

 @9K7G2ZNfrom Virgin Islands  answered…1yr1Y

it should be decreased, but also a cap on all prices of fuel oil to ensure that the companies do not unfairly raise the prices to make more money and profits.

 @5Q8HYS6 from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

No, and we need to stop relying on oil from nations that are hostile to us, and allow America to develop it's oil production.

 @9JY7P9J from Delaware  answered…1yr1Y

I think that the U.S. should use the oil and gases found in the country rather than paying for it from another country. It would be cheaper.

 @9JXX5TN from Colorado  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but only until prices decline, while still upholding the end goal of nationalizing the energy sector.

 @9J4BFZW from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

No, oil companies would just raise prices anyway in lieu of any tax. I’d rather be taxed than be gouged by another corporation

 @9HZDFNN from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

No, but use the MONEY to support our nation's highway systems and stop pi$$!ng it away on unsustainable pet projects like high speed rail

 @9HX7Q8N from New Jersey  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, because gas should be affordable for those who need it. However, we should simultaneously be phasing out the use of gasoline for more sustainable options. Additionally, our gas tax doesn't determine the fate of our infrastructure. Our government can easily take from the near billions of dollars they spend on our military in order to aid failing road projects and to provide other much needed infrastructure.

 @9HSGSGP from New Jersey  answered…2yrs2Y

Only if it is replaced by either carbon tax or more ideally by a combination of tariffs on foreign oil and taxes on oil production and refinement

 @9HRLFR2Democrat from California  answered…2yrs2Y

Oil corps and barons are greedy scumbags. no need to tax and punish normal joe americans for corporate misdeeds. Focus on ditching oil and holding oilmen's feet to the fire instead.

 @9HPHCZ6 from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but replace it with a tax that factors in vehicle weight and distance driven annually as those are the largest factors that contribute to road wear.

 @mk  from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

That pays for road work. Instead, a tax should be levied on electric vehicles that are using the roads for free.

 @9HFGY5NRepublican  from Minnesota  answered…2yrs2Y

No it would increase inflation we should just open the pipeline so that the prices would go down naturally

 @9H5VH62 from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, at least until prices decline. More should be done to transition consumers towards buying solely electric cars, but not in a way that causes individual hardship

 @9GX287XPeace and Freedom from Connecticut  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, and permanently end it. The government also needs to lift restrictions on oil companies and pump less gas on things that don't require it

 @5Q8HYS6 from Michigan  answered…2yrs2Y

No, we need to stop relying on oil from nations that are hostile to us, and allow America to develop it's oil production.

 @9GL67TR from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

No, this is how the government funds public roads and transportation and it should only be used for such.

 @9GKCSD3 from Maryland  answered…2yrs2Y

The gas tax needs to be suspended and the money previously collected from it should be used to investigate renewable energy

 @9GJYQSH from Florida  answered…2yrs2Y

The tax should only be used to assist in the funding of vehicle infrastructure and not for other political purposes and agendas. There should also be an equivalent infrastructure support tax for electric vehicle.

 @9G777XT  from Arkansas  answered…2yrs2Y

The question is not really important. As a transition is made to electric vehicles, a toll system will have to replace the gasoline tax.

 @9G626Y4 from Louisiana  answered…2yrs2Y

No, they shouldn't suspend it, but decrease the tax because we still need the tax so that we have funding for more research and building of electric cars for a more sustainable country.

 @9FDD7ST from Missouri  answered…2yrs2Y

We need to develop a new form of gasoline that is better for the environment But we also shouldn't punish the low income people for using gasoline when it is our only current option

 @9FBHZTZ from Illinois  answered…2yrs2Y

Instead of a gasoline tax, the government should invest in green energy sources and invest in alternative green fuels for automobiles.

 @9F9YKKQ from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

No, and it should be increased to fund more investment into our national infrastructure

 @9F9JRV8 from Virginia  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9DVQC9Z from North Carolina  answered…2yrs2Y

Temporarily but in general it is too low. Should increase green alternatives

 @9DSJSC5 from Georgia  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, they should abolish it, by enacting the Fair Tax - a national retail sales tax that eliminates all other taxes at each government tier in which it is enacted.

 @9DHJ633 from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9DDDR49from Maine  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but lower taxes on gasoline and diesel while increasing taxes on bunker oil and kerosine so that corporations bear the brunt of fuel taxes.

 @9DC38PH from Utah  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, and the government needs to produce more gas while alternatives are being sought.

 @9DC2WBD  from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

The gas tax should stay if the government would allow and encourage rebuilding infastructure and roads throughout the country

 @9D9GC93Independent from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but the government should lift restrictions on oil companies and pump more gas

 @9D93TL9 from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

Lessen restrictions on pumping oil and gas, and recommend states to lower or suspend the gas tax.

 @B2FDCLRIndependent from California  answered…6mos6MO

There will be congestion and driving taxes to increase public transportation usage, and vehicles that rely on sources other than petrol will still be taxed.

 @B2BMVMDfrom Washington  answered…6mos6MO

no, it should stay and renewable energy should be encouraged too, but be reduced so people within the working class can afford it.

 @9YNC5GH from Illinois  answered…8mos8MO

No, it should be increased to match the subsidy on roads versus rail or other transportation. These other forms of privately owned transport should be able to fairly compete with ground-based transport.

 @9YBY4QRIndependent from Delaware  answered…8mos8MO

No, but the funds should be used more effectively towards improved public transit, alternate transit options, and alternate fuel sources

 @9Y3V9ZS  from Colorado  answered…8mos8MO

If they actually did the maintenance and fixed construction projects I’d be fine with it. Currently I don’t see it working right.

 @9W663GY  from Nevada  answered…9mos9MO

Tax should be lowered significantly or have no Tax. Oil and gas is an expensive process that tax’s support. Yet, since we are paying tax’s the gas prices should be lowered, if not then we should no longer should pay tax’s on gas.

 @9W2P6LHNo Labels from Connecticut  answered…9mos9MO

An audit should be conducted to analyze spending before continuing to tax. Government has spending problem bot revenue problem

 @9VSY75QNo Labels from Missouri  answered…9mos9MO

we just need to find other better ways to get fuel than almost being out of places to find fuel and destroying the enviorment.

 @trinkalsGreen  from Ohio  answered…10mos10MO

Yes, the tax should be raised on unnecessary transportation fuel use like commercial, private, and military limousine, tank, plane, helicopter, and jet travel. Vehicles that take higher grade gasoline. Incentivize the wealthy who can afford to spend more on gas. Invest in alternative fuel sources, so we can stop depleting what little we have.

 @9MNHY3G from Nevada  answered…1yr1Y

yes, if they increase production in the US like 4 years ago and it would bring the price of foreign oil down

 @9JC633B from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

There should only be a small tax on fuel for the maintenance of highways and railways that carry the fuel. The energy sector should be nationalized and fuel should remain cheap and highly accessible until infrastructure is changed in favor of free and efficient national and local transportation.

 @igeryuIndependent  from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

No, unless it is replaced with a more equitable tax, based on mileage, vehicle weight/class, and configuration

 @9DXR3SGCommunist from Illinois  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but nationalize the energy sector and phase out gas-powered cars in favor of electric cars

Yes, I creates an unfair situation for EV drivers not paying for the roads they drive on.

 @9DNSCPX from Kansas  answered…2yrs2Y

No, if a resource is very limited, it should be taxed or more expensive, encouraging people to find and use a more efficient / cheaper alternative.

 @9DMXBB9 from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

  @TonyForCA  from New Jersey  answered…2yrs2Y

I feel like if you had an electric car, your taxes should match the area you're in and the gas prices.

 @9JF9QJYDemocrat from Tennessee  answered…1yr1Y

We should lower it and use the money to promote more environmentally-friendly ways for transportation.

 @9D8LF34 from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

Replace gas tax with a pigouvian tax on carbon and for maintenance of government roads. Not to be used for the general fund.

 @93YG3NB from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

 @9JFLRXM from California  answered…1yr1Y

Reduce restrictions to drill and produce US fissile fuels and not rely on foreign produced. Tax use of foreign produced.

 @94RCY6F from Illinois  commented…3yrs3Y

no, it would suspend it, but that money needs to come from somewhere, so it would get implemented in another thing like income or sales tax

 @9CH2X6BAmerican Solidarity from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y
