Should the federal government institute a mandatory buyback of assault weapons?

A gun buyback program is one where the government purchases guns from private citizens. The goal of these programs is to reduce the number of guns owned by private citizens. In most gun buyback programs the police are the agents buying the guns. In 2019 Presidential candidates Joe Biden, Beto O’Rourke, Kamala Harris and Julian Castro each proposed a mandatory gun buyback program where the federal government would purchase AK-47’s and AR-15’s from private citizens. In the past U.S. gun buyback programs have been implemented by state and city governments.

No, this is an ignorant idea, the government does not sale guns in the first place and therefor can not ask for them back, but it is a violation of rights and would cause the quickest civil war in history with far left communist leaders like biden having to flee back to israel.

No, the government never sold private citizens any gun, so they have no reason to be able to buy any private property.

No, "assault weopons" is a made up term that is a blanket statement that attacks any black gun, also the government dousn't sell guns to citizens so they can't "buy back" something they never had, as well as this is a massive violation of human rights.

An initial voluntary buyback with major incentive. Increase mental health and background checks. If rates of gun violence don't go down then make it mandatory if they do go down then leave it at the current level.
