Lots of people working minimum wage jobs do have families and they deserve to be paid enough to support their families. Minimum wage workers are not just teenagers with no responsibilities.

 @9GLT4B5 from Washington  agreed…2yrs2Y

I think the minimum wage should be raised for workers who have trouble raising their families and the employer should provide the option to pay a worker more based on the number of family members they care for.

 @9FLK9WPPeace and Freedom from Wisconsin  disagreed…2yrs2Y

I think minimum wage jobs should pay more because people need money to live and minimum wage jobs may be the only job people are able to work at

 @B5MMLDT  from Washington  disagreed…4mos4MO

Many hard workers are stuck in minimum wage jobs for decades. While they may be intended for teenagers, much of our society is built upon those jobs.

 @9HCLLVWWomen’s Equality  from Ohio  disagreed…2yrs2Y

 @9HKBX3V from Louisiana  agreed…2yrs2Y

I agree with this statement because these companies could really be more sharing with higher mnimum wages cause some person are working paycheck to paycheck needing these jobs just to pay bills;and without extra money what if a accident were to come how would they pay hospital bills and things;plus these companies make millions and milliosn of dollars I'm sure they could up the minimum wage and not be so greedy with money and power

 @9HHMNWZ from Arkansas  agreed…2yrs2Y

Slay. First job I had as a teenager, I worked alongside a 45 year old mother of three with two other jobs. Raise minimum wage!! $11/hr is just simply not enough.

 @9FMR5HNProgressive from Illinois  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Many are unable to secure jobs that provide for a family anyway, so there needs to be a minimum that ensures that everyone has access to the most simple necessities such as housing, energy, transportation, and other resources fundamental in 21st Century life.

 @9FLJ8QYfrom Maine  disagreed…2yrs2Y

not everyone can get a job that pays above minimum wage, and they still need enough money to live on

 @9H7V82Y from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Some people, due to their circumstances, can only have a minimum wage job and nothing else. Some of these people also have their families to support and could possibly be the only bread winner in the family. So no, minimum wage jobs aren't just a way to develop experience, but also, unfortunately, a way to support family.

 @9H7W4VV from North Carolina  agreed…2yrs2Y

Yes because I agree that many face difficult circumstances but still need to work and support families often.

 @9H7WF4D from New Hampshire  agreed…2yrs2Y

This statement is true but also who would work those jobs if they were considered beginner only jobs? During the pandemic a lot of minimum wage jobs were considered necessary to the function of our society and were forced to work for everyone else.

 @9H7WDVJ from Georgia  agreed…2yrs2Y

Some People can't get a better job because of there criminal background and or issues. Someone people are only capable of certain things due to there disabilities

 @9H7WP98Republican from California  agreed…2yrs2Y

While this comment may be true, many of the people who rely on minimum wage jobs did not have an education due to family values or due to the region where they grew up.

 @9HPD3JY  from Michigan  disagreed…2yrs2Y

We need people to work the minimum wage jobs, if we only have the young and/or inexperienced then a lot of consumer goods like fast food would vastly decrease in quality. If we can't have those with families working minimum wage then we would be sacrificing quality for cost-efficiency.

 @9HPF4LZ from Pennsylvania  agreed…2yrs2Y

While it's important to consider the impact of minimum wage policies on workforce composition, it's also crucial to address concerns about income sufficiency for all workers, including those with families. Striking a balance between fair wages and maintaining product quality is a complex challenge that requires thoughtful policy solutions.

 @9FPRVGJDemocratfrom Vermont  disagreed…2yrs2Y

With student loans so expensive, not everyone can afford to go to college and therefore cannot afford to get a higher paying job because most require college degrees.

 @9FPQM5M from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wage jobs are some people's main source of income due to different circumstances. There are people out there being denied of careers because they don't meet the requirements. Minimum wage jobs are easily accessible to all people, so this is a way of a person making a living.

 @9GZC2V6 from Utah  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Many people who are adult with family's are stuck working minimum or just above minimum wage postiions and many are working the job with a college degree they can't find jobs that need it so have unneeded student loan dept as well

 @9GZ9MFT from North Carolina  disagreed…2yrs2Y

WIth the recent decrease in available jobs many people are left with minimum wage jobs and need to support their family. Minimum wage jobs are also barley enough to help people get started and make enough money for themselves much less a family.

 @9FYLDMH from New York  agreed…2yrs2Y

I did not need an income for to support a family when I started working at 14, that would have been ridiculous.

 @9G57MDS from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

This does not address the cost of living crisis or inflation which has drastically changed our world

 @9G56RBM from Ohio  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Everyone should have the ability to start saving from a young age. Even if they aren't supporting a family, they should still have the ability to provide for themselves comfortably, and even be able to afford a form of transport or a college degree without being loaded with dept.

 @9G5B3T7 from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

I think minimum wage should be raised for adults but lowered for people under 18, or provide proof that they are a provider for someone so they can have an increase in minimum wage

 @9G56WTN from Alaska  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wage jobs are intended for experience in the workforce, you are not meant to flip burgers at McDonald’s for the rest of your life. I do think that the minimum wage should be increased or decreased according to inflation and deflation but not a drastic jump to $15 or $20 per hour

 @9FMSJBB from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Some people aren't able to work a full time job or be something higher than a "fast food worker" because they can't afford schooling or just aren't stable enough to do it comfortably. Some people have to work at a minimum wage job for many personal reasons but some should be getting payed higher for how they work. Most people now do minimum wage jobs to support a family because they don't have extra money to pay for school or a house, most people are struggling.

 @9GTCKFR from Georgia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Even people living on their own are struggling to make enough just to eat everyday and pay their monthly bills so they can't even begin to gain the experience and education needed to get higher paying jobs.

 @B6KLN53Independent  from Florida  disagreed…2mos2MO

The best counter argument for this would be that a lot of Americans only have their minimum wage job as their only source of income, so yeah, an increase in minimum wage would help out the people facing this situation.

 @9FJF5CT  from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Any job requires a significant amount of effort and time spent, the time working should pay for the time not working.

 @9FNNLTD from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

 @9FNP5NNagreed…2yrs2Y

I think this is true in seasons, but I also think there are resources to help find jobs as well. It is also possible to find scholarships and public funding for improving skills and education to get a better job.

 @9FNYYZT from Virginia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Some companies, only pay minimum wage, or certain people can’t get higer paying job. In general things happen in life and if someone needs a job to support their family they can’t because minimum wage is so low. The cost of living is going up and the amount of money going into peoples pockets isn’t. We need to increase minimum wage.

 @9GT9LH6Democrat from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

People still need to support themselves, and people cannot go upwards from minimum wage if they dont make enough money to succeed.

 @9GT9Y57 from South Dakota  agreed…2yrs2Y

I think this is wrong because everyone would want minimum wage, but it would cost the government more money, so it could go either way.

 @9FLGM4HDemocrat from South Carolina  disagreed…2yrs2Y

That some minimum wage job workers actually have a family support and need more than one job to support them.

 @9H34TX6 from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

People should be able to find entry-level work that they can support themselves with. Few people have the luxury of working just to develop experience.

 @9FNKJZ8 from Virginia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

The purpose of minimum wage is to be the minimum amount of money needed for someone to live comfortably and safely. That's why it's the minimum. If it doesn't do that, what's even the point?

 @9HD6CZV from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Most minimum wage positions are overwhelmingly fulfilled by people who have bills to pay and mouths to feed. People should be paid enough to live on, regardless of the skill level of the job— you can’t gain skills if you can’t eat and support your family. Maslow’s Hierarchy of needs, you need food and shelter before you can work on self-betterment.

 @9FN7SYQ from Washington  disagreed…2yrs2Y

That is not true anymore, based on the ridiculous standards that higher paying jobs ask for, not to mention someone should be able to live somewhat comfortably without worrying about eating medication, or paying rent

 @9FNSZWP from Nevada  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Yes, minimum wages should be increased since it helps someone in need and helps pay for bills better.

 @9FSPG9W from Missouri  disagreed…2yrs2Y

We live in a time where the job market is over-educated, there are individuals with a degree working minimum wage jobs, "kid jobs". Not everyone is living the same cookie-cutter life. Teenagers are working jobs on top of school to provide for themselves and their families. Everyone has hiccups, everyone stumbles, everyone makes mistakes, and we have to start back at ground zero. I have worked with plenty of adults working 2 minimum-wage jobs to support their families at home and it is still barley enough. These are also people working at the state minium wage and still struggling. No one can work for only $8 an hour and expect to live any kind of life.

 @9FLXB25 from Illinois  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Many Americans, especially immigrants, are not prepared to enter into professional fields. Thus, minimum wages should be lifted so that regular people can support a family.

 @9GV56Q8Republican from Kentucky  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Although I agree that minimum wage jobs gain experience, it also gives us a chance to save up money in order to start a life and/or family.

 @9FM2CYJ from Nevada  disagreed…2yrs2Y

I believe that minimum wage jobs are more than just for the experience since majority of those who do work them are students trying to save for either school/college or themselves.

 @9FQ7YBQ from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Anyone who works a full time job should be able to comfortably support themselves, where ever it is they currently live.

 @9GJF3HZ  from Florida  disagreed…2yrs2Y

While that statement holds merit, without said "experience" most higher paying("support a family") jobs won't higher someone. So he majority of the population needs something to help them survive so they can get that experience to get those "support a family" jobs that some a arguing about.

 @9GJTZ99 from Texas  agreed…2yrs2Y

I agree, by increasing the minimum wage, workers will be more motivated to apply for jobs, thus fueling the economy further. Employers will also be motivated to innovate and find ways of generating more profit because employees are earning more. Employees should have ownership of the companies they are employed by.

 @9GHX2GL from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Regardless of the subjective meaning of a job it should be enough to sustain yourself and your family at the very least.

 @9GGTL57 from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

I have no counteragrument. I believe that the minimum wage is unlivable, especially for families in this economy and inflation.

 @9GGVS8N from Maryland  agreed…2yrs2Y

Yes, I agree with this comment about minimum wage. With the inflation that is happening around us with the food, gas, and house prices, the wages that we are working for should increase so we can live comfortably.

 @9GGVF99 from Texas  agreed…2yrs2Y

I agree with you, with the current minimum wage it's very hard for families to keep up with their monthly bills

 @B79FJJT from South Carolina  disagreed…2wks2W

Many adults work minimum wage jobs, not just teens, and they still need to cover rent, food, and basic necessities- so wages should reflect real-life needs, not just experience.

 @9HCLJH2Veteran from Florida  disagreed…2yrs2Y

A jobs purpose should be to give money to a person for labor so they can live. A job that does not give enough money for a person to live then it defeats the purpose. If a person wanted experience rather than money then they should do an internship instead.

 @9FNZRQJ from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Even though most minimum wage jobs are meant to develop experience and not support a family, there are some individuals that were unfortunately forced into situations where they could not get a higher education and have to work a minimum wage job.

 @9H5FJNS from Indiana  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Minimum wage should be increased due to the inflation nowadays. Things are becoming too expensive to afford and buy, which will be even more difficult on people with a minimum waged job that doesn't pay much.

 @9FNX85Cfrom Pennsylvania  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Everyone who does a full-time job deserves atleast enough money to be able to afford necessities. This argument of experience and not support a family might have worked a few decades ago when there was far less wealth inequality. Now, with so many people forced to work these jobs for the long run, their wages must be increased. It is the paramount duty of the government to ensure at least a basic quality of life for the citizenry.

 @9FNK3PN from Indiana  disagreed…2yrs2Y

There are many people who work. Most of them are high school students working at low-paying jobs. Students aren't required to work, but most do due to certain circumstances. Some have to in order to support themselves or even their families. The problem is, that most jobs that hire young people, do not pay well. Yes, you could argue that it is for the experience but some are actually in need.

 @9FN6TP7Independent from Tennessee  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Some people come from poor or rough backgrounds and can't afford the education for a higher paying job and have to support themselves on minimum wage and that is unfair treatment based on their background.

 @B787FKP from California  disagreed…3wks3W

When our parents and grandparents were younger they were able to run very basic types of businesses/stores (VCR repair shops, for example) and still take their families on two vacations a year. These minimum wage positions allowed for people to support their families, investments, and abilities to purchase land/houses. Their children and grandchildren should be afforded the same opportunities.

 @9FMK6JX from Georgia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

 @9FM3SM2Peace and Freedom from New Jersey  disagreed…2yrs2Y

I disagree with this statement because yes people do need experiences in order to get a job, but that's what schools and colleges are for which is to help us gain education about jobs for us to take later on in the future. You may not understand why the government would consider making this decision but it can do a whole lot for people who are struggling to provide for themselves and their loved ones. Therefore, if the government considers increasing the federal minimum wage, then it will be a benefit for us all.

 @9FPNZQPRepublican from North Carolina  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Not everybody is able to get a job with a stable income. Minimum wage jobs are there a little fall back if things arent able to work out. There will always be somebody needing a minimum wage job no matter the age. Not all minimum wage jobs will give you the same experience as a stable income job. Like working as a server comparing to a construction worker those are two totally different jobs and you are always developing skills and experience

 @9GLV6P2Peace and Freedom from Arizona  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Many people are forced to work minimum wage jobs in my opinion a minimum wage job should allow one person to live comfortorably.

 @9HLSJT6 from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

That is ridiculous. Any person working full time or part time should be able to support and provide for themselves and a family if necessary. I genuinely believe people want to work. but you would have to have two or three jobs at $7.25 just to make a total of $21.75 an hour total. It's shameful. If there is no increase in minimum wage then the government should cap increases on rent, housing, food, transportation and any other necessary need for any human to survive.

 @9HPH5S2 from Pennsylvania  disagreed…2yrs2Y

The value of a person's time is not dependent on what that person chooses to do with the gains of their labor. If a person works full-time they should be able to earn enough to support themselves and others with enough left over to engage in activity that is not purely based in survival. They should not be punished if they do not have family to support. Also, inexperience does not mean that a person should not receive enough money to live.
If a person cannot support a family on minimum wage, then minimum wage needs to be increased.

 @9HJ2L97 from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y
