Government shouldn't hire anything, allow private prisons to operate without aid of government.

 @B634PY3Republican from Louisiana  answered…3mos3MO

No this leads to corruption from officials investing or being bribed to keep sentencing everyone who commits a crime no matter how small, we need to bring back the death penalty for murderers and rapists and actually do it no sitting on death row for 5, 10, 20 and 50 years, theres no point in paying all that money to jail these people. waste of tax money.

  @KindredburkeLibertarian  from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

Both government run and private prisons lead to forms of slavery and torture. Prisons should only exist for people who committed violent crimes, felonies or large-scale crime. They should be run by either the government or private companies but should be closely monitored by a 3rd party to ensure the prisoners' rights are not being violated.

 @6YGTH6XLibertarian  from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but provide incentives to reduce recidivism, such as financial incentives for successful job placement once prisoners are released.

 @9R6H2FTRepublican from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

No, I don’t have much knowledge on the subject but based on what information is shown here it sounds to me like such prisons have too much incentive to fill themselves up — think about that one a while…

 @3H6X5RQLibertarian answered…1yr1Y

Yes. However, privately run incarceration systems should profit solely on rehabilitation and education rates and penalized on recidivism rates.

 @9MZC778Libertarian from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

No as currently practiced, but if we can shift the contracts to reward reductions un recitivism I could support them.

 @9JPFXR2Libertarian from Georgia  answered…2yrs2Y

Regardless, prisons should be for rehabilitation and corrections not punishment. the manor in which this is achieved is irrelevant, though i prefer private institutions not public.

 @9H3SQM8Libertarian  from Alabama  answered…2yrs2Y

I think maybe a mix of both types. Let us see which works best. Both systems should be strictly regulated to prevent mismanagement and corruption

 @9G8LVV8Republican from Minnesota  answered…2yrs2Y

I feel all prisons should be run by people who can help rehab all prisoners even those with a life sentence. I feel if they have a purpose when and if they get out there may be less of a chance they will reoffend. I also feel when they get out they should be given help to find housing and to get and keep a job. I also feel if they have a purpose there may be less violence in the prisons.

 @8F5PD86Republican from Minnesota  answered…5yrs5Y

Prisons should be self sufficient. Prisoners should have to work for room and board.

 @9SPZ9JDRepublican from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

I think the prisoners still have a right to their freedoms and protections and that if this did happen they should still be guarenteed full protection as a US citizen.

 @84ZWD6LLibertarian  from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only partially privatized. Kitchen, recreation, laundry, cleaning, and maintenance should be privatized, whereas security and wraparound services should be managed by the state

 @9D4QLZKRepublican from Oregon  answered…2yrs2Y

No. Don't incentivize the private sector to vote for laws that will imprison more people, and increase their income.

 @84ZWD6LLibertarian from Pennsylvania  answered…2yrs2Y

Yes, but only partially privatized. Kitchen, laundry, cleaning, maintenance should be privatized, whereas security, rehabilitation programs, and wrap-around services should be managed by the state

 @92VF3L8Libertarian from Florida  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8XV73SJRepublican from Illinois  answered…4yrs4Y

No, the government's one job is to enact the law, and they should not be outsourcing part of that duty to private business owners

 @8X7VX68Libertarian from Tennessee  answered…4yrs4Y

Prisons should be manage at the most local level possible, while maintaining a safe environment for inmates and security.

 @8WZFXB7Republican from California  answered…4yrs4Y

No, some private companies may make prison too easy for people who did terrible crimes.

 @8WGSBQRLibertarian from Virginia  answered…4yrs4Y

No, as currently practiced but I could support it if funding was based on reduction of recidivism rather than number of inmates housed.

 @8W6J5YKLibertarian from Maine  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but under heavy scrutiny, and only the worst of the worst prisoners should go there.

 @8TZ88RQLibertarian from Tennessee  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8TF8946Libertarian from California  answered…4yrs4Y

No, private security companies should contract with private prisons, government is an infinite money supply

 @8T8ZXY7Libertarian from Virginia  answered…4yrs4Y

Yes, but the government should not pay them and should instead be run like a business

 @8T3NY8RLibertarian from Pennsylvania  answered…4yrs4Y

yes, but eliminate contractual occupancy quotas and allow the prisons to use them for a limited amount of labour in exchange for low pay for the prisoner.

 @8T37PWTLibertarian from Georgia  answered…4yrs4Y

 @8RRQWKWRepublican from Georgia  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8QNBS3GLibertarian from Illinois  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8Q9GLTXRepublican from Tennessee  answered…5yrs5Y

No, the government has incarcerated them we have a duty to ensure they are provided rehabilitation and private prisons don’t always have a reform plan.
Thst being said, all prisons should have a mandatory training program where every inmate works 40 hours a week and has to obtain an education.

 @8PDJJJHRepublican from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

No, this could lead to many arguments that could lead into terrible trust and leadership.

 @8PCNT5VLibertarian from Ohio  answered…5yrs5Y

No, prisons will sacrifice rehabilitation services for profit. Rehabilitation should be the main concern, especially for younger inmates.

 @8P9TMF2Republican from North Carolina  answered…5yrs5Y

It would encourage them to want to grow, and then want more inmates. So no.

 @8NVMYKYLibertarian from Alabama  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8NTYSYCRepublican from West Virginia  answered…5yrs5Y

Federal prisons should fall under mlitary police jurisdiction. State prisons should be guarded by state police officers

 @8NMLWRDLibertarian from Texas  answered…5yrs5Y

No, and overhaul the criminal justice system to decrease recidivism and increase fast tracking and education programs for non violent offenders.

 @8NL35CTLibertarian from Florida  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes and incentivize the companies to provide quality rehabilitation services while punishing those who break the law (ex. corruption)

 @User12345Republican from Virginia  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but eliminate contractual occupancy quotas and they should be strictly regulated to prevent mismanagement and corruption and should offer free rehabilitation services.

 @8LVXJTSLibertarian from Illinois  answered…5yrs5Y

Well what would a child molester get vs a mother that killed a child molester?

 @8LM4BVWRepublican from Ohio  answered…5yrs5Y

There should be segregation via groups and types of imprisonments. We should work on turning criminals into better citizens and consider a group to be trained into military options ( if they comply, they can work via a ranking system to be released via the general population/ or via the military.)

 @FractalSevenLibertarianfrom California  answered…5yrs5Y

No, they should be run by non-profits with the goal of rehabilitating prisoners.

 @8KNV8XVLibertarian from Virginia  answered…5yrs5Y

 @8J83LVYRepublican from Oklahoma  answered…5yrs5Y

 @BobBeastaRepublicanfrom Maine  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but the results of the prisons -- focusing on recidivism rates -- should be prioritised over costs

 @8HCZLY5Republican from Iowa  answered…5yrs5Y

No, private prisons will sacrifice quality of care and rehabilitation services for profit. The profit these jails make create an incentive to send more people to jail. This leads to more people being wrongfully convicted and put away for petty crimes all for profit.

 @8DNXXTZRepublican from Hawaii  answered…5yrs5Y

No, hire non profit organizations. eliminate contractual occupancy quotas, strictly regulate to prevent corruption, and

 @8CGYBLVLibertarian from Virginia  answered…5yrs5Y

 @98ZM8CRRepublican from Oregon  answered…3yrs3Y

Bring back the death penalty for murders, rapists, etc. Have the government run prisons for lower crime inmates.

 @989XT3TLibertarian from Illinois  answered…3yrs3Y

Private prisons have no onus to want prisoners to leave. Ever. I see a huge conflict of interest here. And this hits home for me, I live 10 minutes from one.

 @97WDXMJRepublican from Maryland  answered…3yrs3Y

No, we should abolish current prisons and return to biblical imprisonment policies

 @97W2MYQLibertarian from Colorado  answered…3yrs3Y

 @977QM3LLibertarian from Colorado  answered…3yrs3Y

 @maadiman1170Libertarianfrom Texas  answered…5yrs5Y

No, privatizing prisons opens the door to corruption of public servants and encourages them to get convictions regardless of the guilt of those being prosecuted.

 @93NRSBKLibertarian from Indiana  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8CHMMVHLibertarian from Virginia  answered…5yrs5Y

no, rather the government should reform its prison systems for the rehabilitation of its prisoners

 @8RPZ3MPLibertarian from Maryland  answered…5yrs5Y

No, privatized prisons incentivizes increased imprisonment. However privatized police incentivizes higher standards

 @8R7SQ2VLibertarian from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Yes, but regulate them and allow prisoners to select (within reason) which prison they will be going to in order to generate competition.

 @LangworthyUS9thRepublican from Michigan  answered…5yrs5Y

No this creates incentives to fill the prisons. We need prison reform focus more on rehabilitation, job skills, life skills and coping skills.

  @realmichaeljlongLibertarian from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

The Government should privatise all of the Jails and prisons and there personel including correctional officers and staff.
