The Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act is a gun control law that was passed in the state of New York in response to the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. The law was passed by the New York State Legislature on January 15, 2013, and was signed into law by Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo on the same day who described the law as the "toughest gun control law in the United States." The law includes a number of provisions, such as banning the sale of assault weapons and high capacity magazines, mandatory background checks, reporting of sales, assault weapon registry, and increased sentencing for gun related crimes.
