Should “gender identity” be added to anti-discrimination laws?

Gender identity is defined as a personal conception of oneself as male, female, both, or neither. In 2014, President Obama signed an executive order barring discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity among federal contractors. The order covered employers who perform federal work and protected an estimated 20 percent of American workers. Opponents included religious groups, who argued that the order would prevent them from receiving federal money or contracts if they could not meet the new guidelines because of their beliefs. yes, and the government should do more to protect minorities from discrimination. saying that someone's gender identity or sexuality is against your religious beliefs is ridiculous. It does not force you to be aother gender who love your own sex. people are just homophobic and do not want people to be who they want to be.

If you have a man's urinary system use the men's room. If you have a female's urinary system use the woman's room. Shouldn't matter about the "identification".

Gender and sex are not the same thing. This issue is not well enough understood for government to act on it. Gender is psychological, sex is biological, gender shouldn't be treated like sex and sex shouldn't be treated like gender.

Kentucky Democratic governor bans conversion therapy

Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) on Wednesday signed an executive order banning “conversion therapy” for minors — skirting the Republican-led state legislature and setting up a likely legal challenge.Beshear said the new policy, which goes into effect immediately, is an overdue step to protect children from a widely discredited medical practice that attempts to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity.“Kentucky cannot possibly reach its full potential unless it is free from discrimination by or against any citizen — unless all our people feel welcome in our spaces, free from unjust barriers and supported to be themselves,” said Beshear, who is one of two Democratic governors in the South.Major professional medical organizations — including the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association — have denounced conversion therapy as harmful and ineffective, citing research that shows the controversial treatment leads to increased risk of suicide and depression.Previous attempts to ban conversion therapy in Kentucky have stalled or failed in the state legislature. Opponents have argued that prohibiting the practice tramples parental rights and infringes on freedom of speech. On Wednesday, a slew of legislators and conservative groups took aim at Beshear’s use of his executive powers to override Kentucky’s legislative branch — and some vowed to challenge the ban in court.
