In a disturbing turn of events, Senator Thom Tillis of North Carolina has received a death threat over his support for legislation that would challenge TikTok's Chinese ownership. The threat, which was left in a voicemail, starkly highlights the intense debate surrounding the popular social media platform and its ties to China. The caller, whose identity remains unknown, chillingly warned the senator of violent repercussions if the proposed ban on TikTok were to pass, stating they would find and shoot him. This alarming incident has sparked a broader conversation about the influence of TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance, and the lengths to which its fervent user base will go to protect it.
Senator Tillis, a Republican, has been vocal about his concerns regarding TikTok's potential risks to national security, citing its Chinese ownership as a significant threat. The proposed legislation aims to sever these ties, prompting a wave of backlash from the app's users. The senator's office has taken the threat seriously, filing a police report and highlighting the dangers of misinformation spread by TikTok's campaign against the bill. The incident has divided the internet, with some criticizing the senator's stance on TikTok while overlooking broader issues such as gun control.
The response to the threat against Senator Tillis underscores the polarized nature of the debate over TikTok's future in the United States. While some view the platform as a harmless source of entertainment, others see it as a conduit for Chinese influence and a threat to national security. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the high stakes involved in the discussion about TikTok's ownership and the lengths to which individuals may go to defend their digital sanctuaries.

TikTok not owned by the Chinese government at all. This is a scam, and banning it is an attack on free speech and private property. If Congress actually cared about combating China, they'd shoot down the spy balloons, ban Chinese purchase of American property and seal up the border that Chinese nationals and Chinese-funded drug cartels are invading. Instead they choose to focus on an app that is privately-owned because it's a "national security threat" more than all that. This creates a dangerous precedent – banning apps accused of being foreign-owned. They will come after X (formerly twitter) next, claiming Elon Musk is a Russian asset because he allows free speech for isolationists like me who oppose the war in Ukraine.

I seriously never thought I’d find us two agreeing, but here we are. Seriously, the TikTok ban is pointless, it doesn’t affect the cause of the problem, it’s not even in the SLIGHTEST about national security, it just makes a bad precedent and a massive mess in the future.
@Patriot-#1776Constitution3mos3MO
life is full of surprises
@9L2NG9H3mos3MO

@9L2MYZF3mos3MO
it's sad on how someone will send a death threat to someone for taking down a social media platform
@9L2F9GT3mos3MO
I think that is USA related everything else is not in our Country we need to keep information to our Country.
@9L2D7NB3mos3MO
I would understand people really like tik tok
@9L2MRMH3mos3MO
TIktok is a platform for free speech , and some of the claims like banning tiktok is too harsh
@9L2CXHH3mos3MO
i don't care. Tiktok should be banned if it results in better protection of our national security
@9L2LZG93mos3MO
You should not have to receive a death threat over tik-tok
they shouldnt because we learn and inform ourselves in the app
@9L2CX663mos3MO
This shows what the world has come to.
@9L2KGFC3mos3MO
i feel like its doing to much 1. why do they want to ban tiktok and 2. its not they deep for people to be threating other people .
This proves that the internet has gone too far.
@9L2F5SC3mos3MO
I think it's ridiculous to threaten someone else's life over something like social media, in this world we have many different forms of social media and I don't see how losing one would be the end of the world.
@9L2MJYW3mos3MO
They should not ban TikTok just because it took US title of being the biggest app ever.
I don't really have a opinion its cool to learn about though
