You believe in a society where individual freedoms are protected, and power is held by elected representatives, promoting equality and justice for all.
Liberal democracy is a political ideology that combines the principles of democracy with those of liberalism. It is characterized by fair, free, and competitive elections between multiple distinct political parties, a separation of powers into different branches of government, the rule of law in everyday life as part of an open society, and the equal protection of human rights, civil rights, civil liberties, and political freedoms for all people.
The roots of liberal democracy can be traced back to the Age of Enlightenment in the 18th century, a period that saw the emergence of ideas…

How much influence do you believe citizens should have over laws that govern them compared to elected officials?
@9LMWQF61yr1Y
A lot more, regular people deserve more of a say in what affects THEM and what happens to THEM, elected officials are privileged and find ways around the law, run from it, and get away with things easier than a regular citizen. Citizens are the ones who will be affected and they deserve to have the most say in what exactly happens to them.
@9LSTL5G1yr1Y
this is true, classism is very much still a thing and just because when someone who has a fancy job and commits a crime and gets always with it when a young person who has no job, no money commits a crime they’re a criminal
Elected officials are elected for that reason. If they do not do what they are elected to do then elect someone else next elections.
@9LL45DL1yr1Y
i belive we should have just enough to have a say in what elected officils do
@9LLN7NN1yr1Y
We have our say when we vote for them. There is no point in voting for a representative if they cannot represent.
@9LLMTLDLibertarian1yr1Y
How would that be implemented? Because you have to consider the fact that elected officials are people too and they have their own personalities, beliefs, etc. Also nearly every political office in the government allows the people there to be voted out of power if they are unsatisfactory to the people and be replaced with a candidate who is better suited to serving the people they represent. Also you didn't capitalize the letter "i", misspelled "believe", you misspelled "officials", and you forgot a period at the end of your sentence.
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
Can you recall a time when you saw the benefits of having a diversity of candidates in an election, even at the school level?
@9J4XYX9Independent1yr1Y
i can see the benefit from having a diversity of candidates was when schools provided more technology for schools to make learning easier.
@9J4X5Z51yr1Y
I have never encountered anything like this in the schools I have been to because I have been to public schools
@9J4WQ491yr1Y
One benefit I saw was that having diversity shows who people really are and can help me know who to associate with.
It is very stupid that this country is using a two-party system for a place with so many different kinds of people.
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
How would you explain the importance of checks and balances to someone your age?
@9KFTCM6Libertarian1yr1Y
It allows the branches of government to not be too powerful.
@9KFTXMF1yr1Y
Not one branch of government has singular power, each branch is kept in check by the other. One cannot get away with violating the rights of the people (in theory).
@9KFTGYP1yr1Y
They are important to people my age because it is important for people to be well-educated on economics.
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
How does participating in school elections make you feel about your role in bigger political processes?
@9JKXM7Q1yr1Y
I think its kinda boring and shouldn't be participating. Because the only time I did it was in 6th grade and had no idea who either candidates were.
@9JKXJ261yr1Y
It makes it kinda feel like there just saying to vote just to vote
@9JKWQSW1yr1Y
Citizen participation is one of the most important building blocks of civil society actions. The effectiveness of democracy depends on the capacity of citizens to influence policy development and implementation processes.
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
When you hear about environmental disasters in the news, how does it affect your perspective on your own environmental impact?
Makes me mad that bigger companies and the government don't address these problems.
@9L8CZ3D1yr1Y
I think that some bigger companies who mass produce products which are made with non biodegradable material are doing so muh harm to the environemnt
@9L5CNXH1yr1Y
It affects my perspective on my own environmental impact by knowing that some people can change their views and don't.
It doesn't really affect my perspective on environmental impact.
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
How do you reconcile the respect for authority with the need to question unfair practices within a democracy?
@9HGJP9P2yrs2Y
Authority is there to make sure no one goes crazy and starts breaking laws, but sometimes they can be just as corrupt as the rest of the people. There has to be a middle point where you put some faith in authority and listen to justifiable directions, but know when somethings wrong.
@9HGGV7C2yrs2Y
I think there should be a relevant amount of abilities the authorities should have in order to keep society running, but other than that I think people should be allowed to challenge strange and unnecessary laws and practices in our country.
@9HGJYBJ2yrs2Y
We need to repair the faith in the government on the government's end. They should assist the people more than themselves.
@9HGJXQQ2yrs2Y

@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
How do you balance your personal freedom with responsibilities to others in your community or family?
@9HYQJ4N1yr1Y
Liberal Democracy emphasizes the separation of powers so I believe I will share my political and personal freedom to an extent. while still serving my community with an open mind to everyone and learn the view points of others.
@9HYPRTN1yr1Y
I put my responsibilities first, rather than personal freedom, because a responsibility means it was earned, appointed, or accepted. However, responsibilities to community and family does not mean any type of favor, because I still value my personal health.
@9HYPZYJ1yr1Y
Well I'm not sure because I'm not with a party I lean towards as of the moment.
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
Have you ever changed your opinion based on someone else's argument, and what did that teach you about the value of dialogue?
@9HYQRG41yr1Y
In liberal democracies, dialogue plays a crucial role. It allows for the exchange of diverse viewpoints and ideas, fostering understanding and often leading to more informed and balanced decisions. Through dialogue, individuals can challenge their own perspectives, consider new information, and understand the rationale behind differing opinions. This process is essential for the healthy functioning of a democracy, as it promotes tolerance, respect for differing viewpoints, and the ability to find common ground or compromise.
Dialogue in a democratic context teaches the importance of listening,… Read more
@9HYQPVN1yr1Y
Yes I have done this many times, I am friends with many inteligient people who have strong political opinions and they have swayed my opinion very often. I used to consider myself far leaning one way but their claims moved me a little closer to the middle. This taught me how significant my indoctrination of political ideology was by my parents, and how considering the other sides opinion can broaden your understanding of politics as a whole.
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
Do you think every individual should have an equal say in the decisions that affect their lives, or are some people more qualified to make those decisions than others?
@9HCXQSP2yrs2Y
While it is agreeable that some are more qualified to make these decisions than others; everyone deserves to have a say in the decisions being made that will affect their lives
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
What does 'freedom of speech' mean to you, and have you ever had to defend a viewpoint you didn't agree with?
Freedom of speech means the right of the population to express their opinions freely without state intervention or discrimination, so long as it does not incite violence.
@9HYQC96 1yr1Y
I feel like the term " freedom of speech" is just a saying most of the times, but how I would say it just means what you think and also how you view something from your own point of view. Everyone has different opinions and different perspective of how they go about things.
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
What are your thoughts on the balance between economic development and conservation of natural resources?
@9KVT9H71yr1Y
While we should care about the economy, the climate crisis should take priority. Companies should be incentivised to switch to eco friendly alternatives, or even subject to penalties in some cases as there are about 100 companies responsible for roughly 70% of emissions. This is due to the whole tragedy of the commons problem, where if you overuse today, you won't have enough for tomorrow, and the future will be screwed
@9KVSXYB1yr1Y
i feel they can help because we need more natrual resorsens
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
How would you address the challenge of misinformation in a society that values free speech?
@9KG4SN31yr1Y
I think private companies have every right to ban people for saying things they don't like, free speech is not a freedom of consequence, say dumb **** get banned.
@9KG4RSB1yr1Y
I would address the challenge of misinformation by talking about how not everything is spoken in free speech and some things are just misunderstood
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
How do you think climate change could personally affect your future, and does this worry or motivate you?
The animals and people are getting damaged from it along with the earth
@9KV3M431yr1Y
if we keep letting our climate go up, and other things that are ruining our planet. I feel like this will affect my future as an adult and will give us unbearable summer heat and cold winters that will raise our oceans and it will ruin my time as an adult and right now as a teen.
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
What does justice mean to you in the context of school or community life?
@9KYTPC4Independent1yr1Y
Everyone should have the same opportunities in education.
@9KYTD5Z1yr1Y
Justice in schools or community life means receiving fair treatment upon being taught, having your schools funded, and having a safe environment protected under the law.
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
How would you change your school or local community to be more inclusive and respectful of different viewpoints?
@9HYQHMM1yr1Y
Less intense punishment depending on the situation if a kid gets in trouble
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
Have you ever given up some comfort or convenience for the sake of protecting the environment, and how did that make you feel?
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
How important do you think it is for a government to reflect the diversity of its populace in terms of race, religion, gender, and socioeconomic status?
@9HF39VL2yrs2Y
not important for race and gender last one is kind of impossible and ideally Christians in government positions
really important because people need to know everyone and value.
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
Can you describe a moment when you stood up for someone else's rights, and why was that important to you?
@9HY8ZP71yr1Y
The rights of students are constantly under attack due to the presence of guns and unsafe learning environments. In 2022 many metro schools went to their State Capitol and protested for gun control, and I thought it was important to protest after the Covenant School Massacre.
@9HY8GDT1yr1Y
I personally believe that our education system is terrible and we should have better education, so I fight for our right to a better. education.
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
Have you ever been persuaded to change your stance on an issue due to a well-presented argument, and what did it involve?
@9LDWG6YIndependent1yr1Y
yes, I used to be very ununderstanding of other views but now I see all views.
@9LDWB4NRepublican1yr1Y
yes, when I heard more than one or ones different opinion I did. it was abortion.
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
In discussions about the environment, which arguments do you find most compelling, emotional or scientific, and why?
@9KSK3X31yr1Y
emotional because, everyone has feelings and they deserve to be heard. freedom of rights
emotional because, everyone has feelings and they deserve to be heard. freedom of rights
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
What does it mean to you to have a 'voice' in society, and how do you use it?
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
When making purchases, do you consider the environmental impact of what you buy, and what factors influence your decision?
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
Is there a particular social issue you feel passionately about, and how would you convince others of its importance?
@9J4KDPV 1yr1Y
The circle of poverty that is intentionally designed to keep lower income communities and neighborhoods from any social mobility must be completely uprooted and eliminated. Accessibility to every basic aspect of life: Healthcare, education, finances, housing, and a livelihood, has been continuously sabotaged for decades for the benefit of the wealthy class.
These institutions that provide the basic services for a societal contract must be reestablished into providing them at a robust, high quality quota so that all communities of the working class can thrive and break the circle of poverty, and this quota can, should, and must be established at the cost of the wealthy elite.
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
How would you define 'freedom' within a society, and do you believe that true freedom can exist under any form of government?
@9H79CQ92yrs2Y
Freedom is the right to choose and live, and idinot belive That government can every really provide that ful.y.
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
Do you believe every opinion should have the same platform and protection under free speech, even those that might be considered hateful or harmful?
@9H765792yrs2Y
Yes, some opinions may be hateful and some can be straight flat out wrong, but they all deserve a spot at the table so we can see what people have to say and what they know. many people are just misinformed and when spouting their info they dont have enough of or were given incorrectly, theyre just bad mouthed and shut down instead of talked with and properly seeing what makes them think that way and why they could have that opinion
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
How do we ensure that future technological advancements align with the principles of a liberal democracy?
@9LFJNRRIndependent1yr1Y
Future technological advancements could change (improve) the government's ability to see what everyone is doing at every moment in time, this inherently poses a risk to liberal democracy because on of the ideas which it relies upon is privacy.
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
Have you ever felt that the 'voices' of certain groups are amplified over others; how does that shape your perception of fairness?
@9L67FLW1yr1Y
No, liberals are pretty good at making their voices heard. (deragotrtiy.
@ISIDEWITH2yrs2Y
@ISIDEWITH1yr1Y
What role do you believe social media should play in a democracy?
@9LDNSXJIndependent1yr1Y
Everyone On Social Media Should Have The Right To Speak Even If The Government Disagrees With What They Are Promoting Online, Well At Least They Are Not Protesting On The Streets Causing Traffic Right?
