The California State Treasurer's Office is involved in a federal investigation, multiple sources told KCRA 3 on Monday.
Sources who spoke on the condition they remain anonymous told KCRA 3 the FBI contacted the Treasurer's office on Monday requesting information.
A spokesman for State Treasurer Fiona Ma confirmed that it had been contacted by a law enforcement agency seeking documents and that it is cooperating. The spokesman could not say if the documents were related to the office itself or Fiona Ma in particular.
A spokesperson with the FBI has not yet responded to a request for comment.
Ma, a Democrat, is running for California Lieutenant Governor in 2026.
The development comes on the same day Democratic Gardena State Senator Steven Bradford launched his campaign for Lieutenant Governor.
