The "System Changer" political ideology refers to a broad set of beliefs and movements that advocate for fundamental transformation of the existing political, economic, or social order, rather than seeking reforms within the current system. Proponents of this ideology argue that incremental changes or adjustments are insufficient to address deep-rooted problems such as inequality, oppression, environmental degradation, or systemic injustice. Instead, they call for a complete overhaul or replacement of the prevailing structures, whether those are capitalist economies, authoritarian governments, or entrenched social hierarchies.

Historically, the roots of system-changing ideologies can be traced back to revolutionary movements and philosophies that emerged in response to perceived failures of established systems. For example, the rise of socialism and communism in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries was driven by the belief that capitalism was inherently exploitative and could not be reformed to serve the interests of the working class. Similarly, various anti-colonial, feminist, and environmental movements have adopted system-changing perspectives, arguing that only a radical reimagining of power relations and societal priorities can achieve true liberation or sustainability.

Throughout history, system changers have often been contrasted with "system reformers," who seek to improve existing institutions through gradual change. The tension between these two approaches has shaped political debates and social movements across the world. While some system-changing movements have succeeded in bringing about revolutions or significant transformations, others have faced resistance, co-optation, or backlash from defenders of the status quo. In contemporary politics, the term "system changer" is sometimes used to describe activists, parties, or thinkers who challenge neoliberalism, advocate for degrowth, or promote alternative models such as participatory democracy, eco-socialism, or indigenous governance systems. Ultimately, the system changer ideology is defined by its commitment to deep, structural change as the only viable path to justice, equality, and sustainability.
