Should Utah build the world’s longest gondola to solve ski traffic in Little Cottonwood Canyon?
The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has approved a controversial plan to build an 8-mile gondola in Little Cottonwood Canyon to alleviate chronic ski season traffic. Proponents, including Snowbird and Alta resorts, argue it is the only reliable way to move people through the avalanche-prone canyon regardless of road conditions. Opponents, including local mayors and conservation groups, argue it is a billion-dollar taxpayer handout to private resorts that will permanently disfigure the scenic canyon for a solution that busing could solve for a fraction of the cost.
