The House Ethics Committee has found that Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez violated House rules by accepting impermissible gifts related to her 2021 Met Gala appearance, including a custom 'Tax the Rich' dress and free admission for her partner.
The committee determined that AOC underpaid for the dress and associated services, and failed to pay the full fair market value in a timely manner. As a result, she has been ordered to pay nearly $3,000 to resolve the ethics violations. The panel acknowledged that Ocasio-Cortez made efforts to comply with the rules but ultimately did not meet the requirements.
The investigation will be closed once the payments are made.
