Hezbollah Defies Disarmament Demands, Deepening Lebanon's Political Crisis

Hezbollah has firmly rejected calls from both the Lebanese government and international actors, including the United States, to surrender its weapons and submit to state control.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts and proposals linking disarmament to Israeli withdrawal from southern Lebanon, Hezbollah insists it will retain its arms, even at the cost of a ceasefire. This standoff has heightened tensions within Lebanon, undermined prospects for peace with Israel, and exposed the government's inability to assert authority over all armed groups. US envoy Thomas Barrack has acknowledged the limits of American influence, stating Washington cannot compel Israel or Hezbollah to act.

The impasse leaves Lebanon facing continued instability and uncertainty over its sovereignty and future.
