Most of the people I know -- and I think most Americans in general -- are fairly tolerant. I'm not a fan of some of the stuff that others do nowadays, but I also don't make a lot of fuss about it, as I think most Americans don't. Live and let live.
Laws suddenly telling tolerant people who don't wish to change their pronouns, for example, that they must or will face charges, are neither just nor helpful for the cause of transgender people. Do what you want, identify as you want, call yourself what you want, but if others get it wrong because for most of their lives (and most of the lives of the English language for the English-speaking people) they have used pronouns as they were defined in the OED or Webster's, please try a little tolerance in return. If we/they are doing it to taunt or offend, that's one thing. But most won't or don't.
