If there were not sufficient background checks on the individual buying the gun, then I think it's perfectly reasonable to sue the dealer, though I don't see how any of this is the manufacturers fault. If there were sufficient background checks that can be proven, I don't think you should be allowed to sue, since it's the person who committed the acts of violence's fault, not the dealer.
