Should critical race theory be taught in K-12 education?

Yes, we cannot end racism until we acknowledge that our institutions, laws, and history are inherent…

Yes, there are racist people, but our laws are obviously not. The 13th and 15th Amendment are very clear when saying people shall not be denied based on color, nor given special treatment based on race or history of slavery.

Systematic racism is a huge indicator that our government is still inherently racist. Despite written laws that suggest we are unbiased, white men have been responsible for the vast majority of our constitutional statutes, and of course, they were looking out for themselves rather than the minority in our country. Our government was built during a time when slavery was still allowed, and this is prevalent when we view how laws were made and how discussions about human rights were held. It is important to teach the next generation about this in order to make them aware of the genuine possibility that racism is deeply intertwined with our policies and bring awareness on how to prevent future decisions from undermining the rights of marginalized individuals.

Yes, people in the government were and are racist, but that doesn’t mean the government is. If anything, African Americans and other races are given advantages today over Caucasians.
