Nearly every single mass shooting in recent times has been used with assault weapons. 13 teenagers killed at Columbine with assault weapons, 26 people were killed at Sandy Hook, 20 of them being children. FOURTY NINE people were killed at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando. All with assault weapons.

 @B87RH8JNo Labels from Oklahoma  disagreed…8mos8MO

Guns do not kill people. People kill people. We should not limit the guns but enforce harsher stances on how to obtain the weapons. We should do tougher background checks, physiological checks, and more depth and training. We can limit the amount that is produces in the United States but people will still want guns and taking them away will bring more trouble than good. Again, we should make it a lot harder for people to obtain the weapons and have plans in place for the control on how many can be given to one person.

 @B87QN2P from New York  disagreed…8mos8MO

The existence of the guns amongst the public is not the core issue. There simply need to be stricter regulations, such as having a license and taking classes and mental health evaluations for an extended period of time before being allowed to purchase a firearm.

 @B88MQGT from Ohio  disagreed…8mos8MO

We need stricter rules for purchasing guns. Gun violence isnt okay. There needs to be background checks for people wanting to buy guns.

 @B88ZWQ6No Labels from Florida  commented…8mos8MO

If you have been diagnosed with, or you have to take medication for any mental illnesses, you shouldn't be allowed to have a gun period.

 @B88NLWC from Missouri  disagreed…8mos8MO

Assault weapons were made for self defense but have been abused. I do agree that there should be stricter regulations on how people attain them and background checks are necessary.

 @9G7ZH5B from Georgia  agreed…3yrs3Y

Assault weapons are made to kill, however, they are cool AF and my constitutional right. They should have stricter regulations on how easily people may attain them, like background checks, mental health checks, safety courses and training, etc.

Assault weapons were made for self defense but have been abused. I do agree that there should be stricter regulations on how people attain them and background checks are necessary, but I feel that people like teachers, should be allowed to attain a gun due to the fact that there has recently been school shootings and since millions of parents are putting their children's life in the hands of staff members of a school. I feel that school staff should rightfully be allowed to possess a gun for the safety of the children. It is not fair that we should not be allowed to own a gun because someone shot an innocent person who had no weapon to defend themselves with.

 @9G8N2LNDemocrat from Connecticut  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Assault weapons are very dangerous and should not be accessible to normal, everyday citizens. People have the right to guns, but should not have the right to very dangerous weapons such as these.

 @9G8N7VJ from Idaho  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Assault weapons should be banned from civilian use. Restrictions are not enough. Too many people have died in mass shooting because of these particular weapons.
Children in schools have to practice active shooter lock down drills, police presence has increased on campuses as well.
Our children have the right to go to school without worrying about a mass shooting.

I agree with the last part of your statement, however in what world is having access to weapons of war similar to those found in purple Fortnite chests "cool AF"? Tell that to the thousands of people every year who lose family and friends every year. Tell that to the victims of Sandy Hook. I believe that it's important to analyze the context and actual meanings of all of the amendments to the constitution. When the constitution was originally penned, it's clear that the founding fathers wished to provide a legal way for citizens to overthrow the government in the case of…  Read more

Assault weapons are used in many crimes and a restriction should be placed on them and the transportation of them. I've heard of a train in Chicago that was stopped on the tracks carrying assault weapons. People hijacked the train and took the weapons to distribute onto the streets.

 @BBDD93R from Kentucky  disagreed…4mos4MO

Assault weapons have no business being anywhere within the public. For use in the military, is the only place that they seem fit. They’re way too dangerous to be anywhere else.

 @9H4Z6VH from New York  agreed…3yrs3Y

Assault weapons cause more damage than handguns, and they are usually for those who are a part of the military. So, why should citizens have access to military grade weapons?

  @JonBSimConstitutionfrom Kentucky  disagreed…4yrs4Y

assault weapons

No such thing.

A nonsense term created by people who know nothing about guns.

A fist can be considered an assault weapon.

 @B7MFGH5Republican  from Ohio  agreed…9mos9MO

I think that assault weapons are where things can get scary. These are things that people can really do damage with and I don't think we can just go selling these like it's no big deal. There should be restrictions just not on everything.

 @B72Z9K3 from Michigan  agreed…9mos9MO

A assault weapon was made to kill people,not hunt,not protect,kill. If someone wants to acquire a assault weapon,there should be rigorous test and permits needed.

 @B87DKRN from New Jersey  agreed…8mos8MO

Gun Control raises crime rates, Is Authoritarian, and only causes them to be in the hands of Criminals.

 @9GB3HF6 from New York  agreed…3yrs3Y

I am a hunter and in order to practice I need to purchase shotgun shells. the shells being used at the range are target rounds that spread out and lose momentum after about 100 feet. they are meant for breaking clay discs. nobody is going to use low power ammunition if they actually wish to harm people.

 @9GDZ8LFRepublican from South Dakota  agreed…3yrs3Y

That assault rifles are used more then any other gun in shooting then and are usually the most dangerous because of the high capacity of rounds it can hold.

 @BCQ42KS  from Georgia  agreed…2mos2MO

Assault, weapons can cause the most danger, so I would would say that, multiple shooting are cause because of assault weapons.

 @BB2VFGY from Nebraska  agreed…4mos4MO

The public should not be able to possess military-grade weapons like sniper rifles, assault rifles, etc.

 @B92NFVR from North Carolina  agreed…6mos6MO

Data suggests that criminals acquire firearms primarily through theft, the black market, or "straw purchases," rather than unregulated sales at gun shows

 @B7Y6YXQ from Massachusetts  agreed…8mos8MO

We have the right to defend ourselves, family, and property from threats using handheld weapons, but people should have restrictions on the type of guns they can purchase and the amount of ammo.

 @B7PVKDJ from Oklahoma  agreed…8mos8MO

There is no logical reason why any citizen should own an assault rifle/submachine gun. The purpose of such weapons is to kill people in mass.

 @9ZSY3HN from North Dakota  agreed…2yrs2Y

The majority of gun crimes committed in America are illegal guns and not registered and those crimes that are committed with legal weapons are generally by the mentally ill and criminals

 @9YNKQN5 from Nebraska  agreed…2yrs2Y

Assault weapons should be reserved for military, police, and government use. A handgun is enough to be able to defend yourself, as its mere presence already deters people from attacking.

 @9LTTXQD from California  agreed…2yrs2Y

Assault weapons are used more in mass shooting like in school and mall shootings. Smaller fire arms are used mainly for protection and aren't mainly used in mass shootings and assault weapons are the main guns that are causing more harm.

 @9LFW7PP from Texas  agreed…2yrs2Y

Majority of major shootings happen with assault weapons. Assault weapons are used to shoot multiple bullets at once and should only be used by police in extreme measures or by our army when fighting the enemy. In civilian hands, it is much more dangerous and risky to allow it.

 @9JQPDTQ from California  agreed…2yrs2Y

shootings happen everywhere no matter how many gun laws we put. 30+ shootings have already happeend, compared to how texas for example, has little to no crime rate or any of the matter. How?
EVERYONE is armed. so you can stand for yourself.

 @9HXKTCC from Pennsylvania  agreed…2yrs2Y

I think many of the mass shootings have involved assault weapons. A person can protect themselves without needing military-grade weapons.

“The power of the sword, say the minority..., is in the hands of Congress. My friends and countrymen, it is not so, for the powers of the sword are in the hands of the yeomanry of America from sixteen to sixty. The militia of these free commonwealths, entitled and accustomed to their arms, when compared with any possible army, must be tremendous and irresistible. Who are the militia? Are they not ourselves? Is it feared, then, that we shall turn our arms each man against his own bosom. Congress has no power to disarm the militia. Their swords and every terrible implement of the soldier…  Read more

Which guns would be classified as an "assault weapon?"

My problem with this take is that assault weapon is not well defined. It would be easier to know what pro control advocates mean by this if they are able to define which guns would be an "assault weapon."
