Gender identity and the dysphoria that more often than not comes with having a gender that differs from a persons assigned sex at birth is very real and can be detrimental if not treated or if gender affirming care is not provided. If a person is consistently disrespected and ignored through their preferred name and pronouns purposefully not being used by their peers and those close to them, it can lead to immense depression and suicidal thoughts or actions. Similarly, if a person feels like they were born in the wrong body with the wrong genitals and wish to change their body to feel better…  Read more

I do believe that more research should be done on mental health issues caused by Gender Identity issues but gender identity itself should not be classified as a mental health issue. I also believe that care for gender identity should be more available.

I oppose seeking care to help people "stop becoming trans," because evidence shows that conversion therapy doesn't work for transgender or homosexual people. While gender dysphoria is a mental health concern, it derives from the already existing incongruence between gender identity and birth sex. There should always be funding for research and care of trans people, but to include them, not exclude them.

Gender identity is not a mental health issue. Gender identity allows for one to freely express themselves as who they are and not be confined through the heterosexual lens our society operates on.

Gender is a social construct. Men used to wear pink , makeup and high heels. There is no reason someone’s Gender Identity should hurt you, they are just living a life .

Transgender persons suffer significant health disparities and may require medical intervention as part of their care. The purpose of this manuscript is to briefly review the literature characterizing barriers to health care for transgender individuals and to propose research priorities to understand mechanisms of those barriers and interventions to overcome them.

Gender is a fundamental part of everyone, whether someone's gender is different than their assigned one at birth or not. If you treat it as a mental illness that needs curing is cruel and insensitive to many, and shows how little you've actually talked to the people you're trying to "cure."

It has been proven that sex (female/male/intersex) is part of biology. And gender is part of psychology and sociology.

“Then why are there surgeries and other medical procedures (hormone replacement therapy) for trans people?” Not every trans person goes through physical transition. All go through social transition (if it is safe for them). Again, it is a social thing. If most people associate certain things with the gender “man”, then a trans man will feel more comfortable socially if they aligned with what people think men are socially (called ‘passing’)…  Read more

Gender identity is not a mental health issue. People as they grow come to discover themselves in many ways. Their own personal identity discovery should NOT be considered mental health! That in itself is something that has made some people feel very discriminated based on how they think others will feel and what they may do.

Gender identity isn't an issue, but dealing with gender dysphoria is. I do agree with doing more research to try and help people who are going through identity issues though

 @9GJ7899 from Wisconsin disagreed…6mos6MO

gender identity should be a choice that each person gets to experience, and it should be seen as a cultural development instead of a mental health issue.

 @9GFBJMW from Washington disagreed…6mos6MO

Gender is how someone identifies, which is literally not a mental health issue. The people who tend to claim is is one are the same people who want to criminalize and eradicate LGBTQ+ people.

 @9GHLMVN from Minnesota disagreed…6mos6MO

Even if one believes gender identity is a mental health issue it causes no harm or danger to those with one that doesn't match their birth sex, or anyone around them, therefore funds aren't needed for research or care as it's not something that needs to be cured.

 @9G93JYZDemocrat from California disagreed…6mos6MO

No geneder identiy is not a mental health issue because we've seen so many people that it would be too much people with a problem.

 @9GJKZX8 from Massachusetts disagreed…6mos6MO

There is no evidence linking gender identity and expression to that of mental health issues. Not only will your studies provide no data, they will be a waste of money. Gender Identity should be handled as a personal issue with respect and kindness.

We should address it because gender affirming care decreases suicide rates marginally. We have a cure for lots of depressed, suicidal people and they want to withhold it. That’s just a recipe for disaster.

 @9GL8TR7 from New York disagreed…6mos6MO

we should address this because it isn't their fault they were born in the wrong body or like the same sex
