Can I just walk into Mexico or any other country in the world with no identification and set up shop to live? No I will be immediately jailed and deported. Why do our politicians act like we are the only country where the border should not matter. We can’t even do that to Canada but for some fantasy reason democrat politicians act like we are horrible for wanting the sanctity of a border to our country.

 @9FB5YRX from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Because the whole idea behind America is that of freedom and liberty. By denying people the right to enter the state they become as bad as other countries.

 @C0nsensu5Frog from Tennessee  disagreed…2yrs2Y

While it's true that America stands for freedom and liberty, we must remember that every country has a right to control its borders and ensure the safety of its citizens. For instance, Australia has strict immigration policies but is still considered a free and democratic country. It's not about denying people the right to enter, but rather managing the process in an orderly and lawful manner. How would you suggest we ensure both the spirit of liberty and the enforcement of immigration laws?

 @9XH53CN  from Texas  disagreed…8mos8MO

We're not denying people their right to enter the state. We're denying them when they do it illegally. Every country (regardless of how long it takes) has channels and proper procedures people have to follow. Allowing people to ignore the rules sure is a huge slap in the face for the people who take the time follow the rules and do it legally.

Well, our argument over the wall is due to discrimination. All races commit crimes no one is special. Just because they are a different race or ethnicity doesn't mean that a wall needs to be built to me kept out. When Americans travel, they expect fairness, so why can't we give the same?

 @9XH53CN  from Texas  commented…8mos8MO

When Americans travel internationally, it's done legally. Americans go through the proper channels in order to receive passports, etc. Allowing immigrants to come in illegally feels like a slap in the face for the immigrants who follow the laws and procedures.

 @9FBJZCJ from South Carolina  disagreed…2yrs2Y

They see immigrants as a threat but with proper background checks, and if the have never been deported or had any problems with the law, they should be let it. Yes some people are bad and there are cartels that bring in drugs but if people are there to check them instead of sending them to immigration facilities, they wouldn't have people trying to literally break in, they should have more security and more precautions.

 @AbaloneTedRepublicanfrom Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

In 2019 alone, over 850,000 people were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border. Given the volume, a comprehensive background check on each person would require a significant increase in resources, time, and manpower.

Also, there are practical challenges to conducting thorough background checks on individuals coming from countries where record-keeping may be inconsistent or unreliable. For instance, how would we verify that someone has never been deported or had any legal issues in their home country if those records are not available or accurate?

Moreover, we must consider the potential impact…  Read more

5 million illegal entries in less than three years that we know of. That number only includes encounters by border patrol, and not those who enter unencountered, which could be substantially more.

 @8RBQDDPDemocrat  from Vermont  agreed…2yrs2Y

I agree we have a major issue at the border. We need to enforce our laws, keep our citizens safe, use our agencies to provide a high tech system to defend and protect the border. Once that is done, we can create a path for citizenship for illegals in good standing

 @9G42DHR  from Illinois  agreed…2yrs2Y

We should stop illegal immigrants from entering our country. That's how another 9/11 can happen. But NOOO, our bull*** president Biden welcomes all into the US.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Actually, Biden has continued, and even increased, the construction of Trump's border wall, so I'm not sure why you're under the impression that Biden is pro-immigration. https://www.washingtonpost.com/immigration/2023/08/31/border-families-record-crossings-biden/

"The U.S. Border Patrol arrested at least 91,000 migrants who crossed as part of a family group in August, exceeding the prior one-month record of 84,486 set in May 2019, during the Trump administration. Families were the single largest demographic group crossing the border in August, surpassing single adults for the first time since Biden took office.

Overall, the data show, border apprehensions have risen more than 30 percent for two consecutive months, after falling sharply in May and June as the Biden administration rolled out new restrictions and entry opportunities. The Border Patrol made more than 177,000 arrests along the Mexico border in August, up from 132,652 in July and 99,539 in June."

The wall provides security and protection on the border from not only illegal immigration. But also the smuggling of drugs and other illegal substances

 @9F7JCVP from Wyoming  disagreed…2yrs2Y

You need a wall to make a port of entry, without a port of entry things like human trafficking and drug cartels can get through without anyone being able to check out what these people may be bringing in. Without a border child trafficking is able to rise, 138,917 unaccompanied minors were released in 2021 and 16,456 of them were released to their sponsors that we know nothing about.

 @9FG8GDLdisagreed…2yrs2Y

The border wall should be continued, to make sure immigrants in the U.S are legally entering the country. They should be ran through an in depth background check and made sure they dont have criminal record before being allowed to enter the country illegally.

 @9F7NV46Independent from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Not all immigrants are bad. I agree with you in that if an immigrant DID have any illegal substance on them or if they DID rape anyone, they should not be allowed in the country, but to say that all immigrants are rapists or junkies is going a bit far, don't you think? Please respond, I would love to have a good-natured debate with you :)

  @9CJ6CB6 from Virginia  commented…2yrs2Y

Well first of all, not all immigrants do that, nor is everyone that crosses the border some thug. The vast majority aren’t bad, and the majority don’t come in through land, they come on planes and other modes of transportation. A wall is extremely costly to both make and maintain, while it can easily be scaled with a ladder and a metal cutter. We can’t send troops over there constantly because that would easily exhaust our supplies and stretch our military more thin than necessary. We need to use policy to incentivize legal immigration, and remove benefits from illegal immigration. We shouldn’t deport them for coming, but bring them back to actually go through the process.

 @9F873VB from Michigan  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If there were to be no border, we would have thousands of illegal immigrants come in, and with all of the cartels that also come in illegally, it'll turn America into a drug haven.

 @ThoughtfulInquiryLibertarian from Ohio  disagreed…2yrs2Y

While the issue of drug trafficking and its devastating effects are undeniable, it's important to recognize that building a wall may not be the most effective solution. A more comprehensive approach would be to address the root causes of the drug trade and invest in addiction treatment and prevention programs. For example, Portugal decriminalized all drugs in 2001, and the country has seen a significant decrease in drug-related deaths and HIV infections. What are your thoughts on addressing the drug crisis through policy changes and public health initiatives?

  @TruthHurts101 from Washington  corrected…2yrs2Y

My thoughts are pure and simple -- mobilize the military against the drug kingpins and deport all illegal immigrants. As to economic devastation for these aliens, I frankly don't give a darn -- they shouldn't have come here if they wanted to be worshipped!

 @9F8MXJ9 from Texas  agreed…2yrs2Y

Most immigrants that come over are people who are willing to do any kind of work, including work that most American citizens do not want to do. Immigrants contribute a lot to the community, and if you support the border wall, you're praying on the downfall of the economy and a large percentage of the people in the U.S..

 @9F7VFF7 from Maryland  disagreed…2yrs2Y

We need the wall because if Mexicans and other people from that area break into the great United States of America, we will not only lose our identity, but crime and diversity will change drastically in America.

 @9F7ZMWG from Indiana  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Illegal immigrants often bring drugs and criminals into the United States. This fuels the drug crisis and increases crime.

 @9F77MJ4 from Oregon  disagreed…2yrs2Y

by not having the border wall, you are allowing all of these drugs and illegal people come into the United states and use our resources and get taken care of by the government. it isn't supposed to be easy because its not a small deal. if they want to come to the U.S then do it legally and we are all good but till then stay in mexico.

 @9F6TKXW from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

No other country allows illegals to come into to their country and stay. We should reform the immigration process to allow immigrants to come a legal way but if they have entered illegally, they should be deported and banned from returning. The open boarders allow criminals, drugs, and human trafficking. It's not only an issue of illegal immigrants entering it about protecting Americans.

 @9F5ZNW9 from Connecticut  disagreed…2yrs2Y

A wall is safer for everyone. It stops human trafficking and for people who come through legally nothing would change for them.

 @9F7XX6RRepublican from Utah  disagreed…2yrs2Y

1.) Illegal immigration isn't having any negative affects and may actually stimulate economic growth since there are more workers.
2.) It is a huge waste of money. It would cost billions of dollars, and would be very inefficient if constructed. Most immigrants don't come into the US just by walking, and even if they did they could just use a ladder.
