If all police were required to wear body cams, this would eliminate the question of misconduct and if it occurred and to get rid of the "he said she said" conflict.

 @9FF5C55  from Indiana  agreed…3yrs3Y

Yes, I agree with this. It is the same concept as having a dash cam. It eliminates questions that could be manipulated by a party with more apparent power.

 @PuzzledJ0intResolutionfrom Texas  asked…3yrs3Y

I'm thrilled to see your agreement here! You brought up an interesting comparison to dash cams. Could you share more about why you think dash cams and body cams share the same benefits?

 @9FF84MWPeace and Freedom from Indiana  agreed…3yrs3Y

I believe that by making every police officer wear a body cam, it greatly deduces any chance of improper use of authority or it could help prove innocence when a police officer goes over the line.

 @9FF8T47 from Utah  agreed…3yrs3Y

Yes, I agree. I think that all police should wear cameras at all times for evidence against violence on the police and other accounts. Also, the government should be given the footage always and it cannot be doctored or changed in any way whatsoever.

 @9FF93TXagreed…3yrs3Y

Yes, it is the best method of both protecting officers from untrue claims and showing direct evidence of misconduct.

 @B8FQLPC  from Illinois  disagreed…7mos7MO

Police officers should always have and use body cameras. It doesn't just ensure their safety, but it also ensures the people's safety too. Say something happened and they had to go through court, the only proof would be on the camera, it would show who's in the wrong and right, and ensure no one is misjudged and accused.

 @B88S73R  from Texas  disagreed…7mos7MO

If police have no body cameras then how are we supposed to have the correct evidence in court against corrupt officers, and criminals who could harm an officer or other citizen. Police Body cameras protect both citizens, and the officer.

 @B89JW3N from California  agreed…7mos7MO

I agree. Body cameras are needed to record evidence for presentation in court. It would allow for recording of police harming innocent people or criminals harming police.

 @B9T3JNF  from Illinois  disagreed…4mos4MO

Why should police, in my opinion, wear body cameras? 1. It protects the police wearing it. 2. It can provide first person, live evidence of a crime being committed. 3. It holds the policemen accountable for their actions against those they are chasing or arresting because if they commit a hate crime etc. it is all on camera and can be used against them.

 @9F95F29Peace and Freedom from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Police should always carry body cams for both evidence of a crime and to make sure they aren’t doing anything suspicious themselves.

 @BBZJB9V  from Michigan  disagreed…3mos3MO

If police don't wear body cameras, it leads to corruption and discrimination. I don't believe the police to be inherently bad, but anyone can let power get to their heads.

 @BB7LBHJ  from Virginia  agreed…3mos3MO

Agreed, giving people a position of power such as the police and removing body cams opens the door to a lack of responsibility and a higher chance of abuse of power.

 @9GNTTF5  from Pennsylvania  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If police officers are following the law and have nothing to hide, there is no reason to oppose police body cameras.

 @9GNW3MDSocialist from New Jersey  agreed…3yrs3Y

I completely agree. Body cameras are good for both police officers and potential suspects; they protect both sides from false accusations.

 @B86LX28  from Maryland  disagreed…7mos7MO

If body cameras are not on, then how is there supposed to be both trust, and accountability for things that occur on shift? Police are incredibly influential when on duty, and while not all police officers abuse such power, there are examples of such a thing. If it were to occur, then without body cameras there would be no accountability or evidence to bring them to justice.

 @B89JW3N from California  agreed…7mos7MO

I agree. Body cameras are needed to record evidence for presentation in court. It would allow for recording of police harming innocent people or criminals harming police.

 @9FP75HHWomen’s Equality from South Dakota  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Not only does it protect the citizens and also protects the police when it comes to he said she said

 @9GJYLQ3from Maine  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Body cameras have revealed countless officers committing felonies/breaches of conduct - sackable offences - which would otherwise have gone unchecked were it not for the use of body cameras

 @9GYSCC3 from Nebraska  disagreed…3yrs3Y

These are the only people in our country that have the state-sponsored power to kill and restrict general freedoms. That is a tremendous responsibility that can not granted lightly. Anyone with too much power has the potential to abuse that power. Given the potential harms that irresponsible police officers can cause, body cameras are a good protection both for the public and good officers that are falsely accused.

 @BC92GHF from Texas  disagreed…2mos2MO

Police officers hold power towards the regular and the body cam helps prevent injustices and hate crimes or false statements.

 @BHaugh76Libertarian  from Pennsylvania  disagreed…9mos9MO

We must keep police accountable for their actions. Additionally, body cameras capture clear, irrefutable evidence of what exactly happened, which eliminates the possibility of false claims from either side.

 @9H2SYYXLibertarian from Virginia  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Using a camera can increase the likelihood of equality between police and citizens. It is beneficial for police to use body cameras to ensure their protection. It is also best for police to use body cameras so that no corruption or discrimination will be used against citizens.

 @9FN622K from Ohio  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If an officer or a citizen mistreats the other, or commits and offence towards the other, and there is no evidence to prove it, a bodycam shall act as a means to record evidence, and disprove any false claims if it reaches a court.

 @BC48XSH  from Washington  disagreed…3mos3MO

Their really isn't a reason that a cop shouldn't have a body cam. They hold cops, how are given larger amounts of power than that of a normal person, accountable. I see minimal down sides of a body cam, the footage can protect civilians and cops, be used to train new cops, and hold cops to a higher and more consistent standard.

 @9H22YL3 from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I feel that Police officers should wear body cams for safety of all people in the situation and it can be used as a main source of evidence.

 @9GSTWVB from South Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

It will literally show who is accountable for what and has literal proof of what actually happened, holding people accountable.

  @random17345  from North Carolina  disagreed…3yrs3Y

By saying no to Police Body Cameras, you are saying no to the protection of both Police Officers and citizens rights to due process of the law. The body cameras allow citizens to have proof of officers abusing the law, and officers have protection from false claims.

 @B9S7ZZXdisagreed…4mos4MO

Police officers should wear body cameras to ensure they aren't abusing their power, as well as for their own safety.

 @B8GR7J4 from Ohio  disagreed…7mos7MO

The body cameras police officers wear are for the safety of both the officer and civilian. It takes an argument of "He said she said" to a hard evidence case and no way around it.

 @BCKMJJSNo Labels  from Texas  disagreed…2mos2MO

I think police officers are supposed to wear body cams. Because if not they can lie or plant something thats not yours and of course every time they're gonna take side with the cop.

 @9FLKMVR from Illinois  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I think there is no argument against body cameras. The cameras have the evidence to what really happens on encounters with police and it protects the police and the person involved.

 @9FM2QSS from Michigan  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If police were to wear body cameras, there would be no question on what happened in certain situations and this would better protect both the citizens and the officers.

 @9FLNVC8 from Colorado  disagreed…3yrs3Y

the police have made some bad mistakes and gotten away with them so body cameras would hopefully control the issue and make it easier.

 @9H5BKWNRepublican from Indiana  disagreed…3yrs3Y

I believe that they all need body cameras so that when someone gets hurt in a arrest, they can look and see who was at fault and who is going to get in trouble. It also stops corrupt cops, or even gets them fired or released from the Police Force.

 @9FL9BMR from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

They should wear them because they are public servants that hold a position of power and authority. The body cameras make sure they don’t abuse their authority and there will be evidence if they do that will hold them accountable

 @9H4VDTDWomen’s Equality from Utah  disagreed…3yrs3Y

How would we be able to determine when our officers mess up if we cannot see the way they handle a situation?

 @9FLKZYT from Florida  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Allows for more transparency between the police force and their community, and will also provide prosecutable evidence in case of incident.

 @9FM52BD from Minnesota  disagreed…3yrs3Y

In the first 267 days of 2023, there have only been 10 days when a law enforcement officer did not kill a civilian. In these nine months, there have been a total of 801 deaths at the hands of police officers.
The police motto, ‘protect and serve’ has been twisted into something that is unrecognizable and inhumane. The police force is comprised of 67% white men, many of whom are existing with severely ‘masculine’ ideas of societal norms. The individual need of power and control within the law enforcement system endangers the people it was built to protect.

Police should most certainly be required to wear body cams. this could provide potential evidence of a crime or even a dirty cop.

 @9FLR3VVIndependent from Washington  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The more information we have on any given arrest the better. As a society we are deemed innocent till proven guilty. A person may admit on camera to having committed the crime or may not have even though that was written on the police report. It brings up the trust in the community and provides a way for citizens to know if the police are abusing their power.

 @9H2TDBM from New York  disagreed…3yrs3Y

All police officers should have body cameras because they can either prove their innocence on the working field or show their abuse of power. It can make sure they are kept in check.

 @9G2MTP3 from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Police always having their body cam on will lead to protection against the cops and civilians. There are corrupt officers in the US who use their power on innocent people. Body cameras could help us in trials against these officers. It is also more evidence that could be used in court.

 @nicolas.tornbergRepublican  from New York  disagreed…2mos2MO

I feel that Police do need Body Camera in order prevent false conviction and prevent Police from being falsely accused.

 @BCY8JGK from Michigan  disagreed…1mo1MO

While not a panacea, a 2021 study found that cameras led to 17% fewer complaints against officers and a 10% reduction in the use of force. Even if behavior change is not universal, cameras provide essential, objective evidence in disputed incidents, as seen in cases where initial police reports differed significantly from the recorded footage.

 @BC89GKL from North Carolina  disagreed…2mos2MO

Body cameras on police act as proof that something did or did not happen, and can help in validating an event

 @B9CSX8X from Illinois  disagreed…5mos5MO

Aside from helping keeping police accountable for their actions, body cam footage gives investigators additional information when incidents happen. It can give a clearer picture of what went on in any given situation; not just moments in which there's potential misconduct.

 @B8STMX7 from Georgia  disagreed…6mos6MO

body cameras help protect both citizens and officer provide evidence during investigations and increase associability

 @BBV2TGBRepublican from Montana  disagreed…3mos3MO

Body cameras prevent police from doing unjust or corrupt things. As well as helping a department and the justice system in an event involving a police officer, to gain insight on a situation.

 @B9H39NM from New Jersey  disagreed…5mos5MO

Body cameras exist to protect the officers and the citizens. It shows what occurred during an interaction between an officer and a citizen, so that if it is brought up in court later, there will be proof of what actually happened, rather than a 'he said, she said' scenario.

 @B9WLHD8Democrat from California  disagreed…4mos4MO

Police officers work to enforce laws put in place by the U.S. government. It is not like the use of a bodycam is an invasion of privacy, as they are only used when an officer is on duty. It serves to prevent and deincentivize misconduct within the police force, protecting civilians who may be a victim to police brutality and abuse of power.

 @B9S9CF5 from Mississippi  disagreed…4mos4MO

Police wearing body cams is the only legitimate way to ensure that there is no misconduct happening either from police or any citizens involved in the situation. Having video evidence of every situation protects everyone involved, especially if someone winds up arrested or harmed.

 @9FLNY4CProgressive from California  disagreed…3yrs3Y

The police work to serve us. In the court of law the body cams of our public servants should be readily available to show.

 @B9S869K from Illinois  disagreed…4mos4MO

All police should have a body cam, they are protecting the people. So there should be no problem with having a body cam running at all times.

 @B8T7WBK  from Minnesota  disagreed…6mos6MO

police should have body cameras. they again, are an institute that has historically resided in solidarity with the higher class, where the money, and power is. Police need to be legally required to wear body cameras, those that refuse need to be removed, those who do so in the line of duty or in the field must be charged and discharged

 @B8Q52H5 from North Carolina  disagreed…6mos6MO

there are a lot of corrupt cops who do shoot people and criminalise people of color and with out a body cam they can just get away for it.

 @B885RTSNo Labels from Washington  disagreed…7mos7MO

Every day we see policemen abusing their power. It is very important for them to always have a body camera on to prevent any overstepping of justice.

 @9GFWTBK from Michigan  disagreed…3yrs3Y

If they don't wear body cameras what's there to stop them from doing things that are against peoples right and is unconstitutional, body cams ensure that people are allowed evidence as well as a way to hold the officer accountable in the case of them doing something unjust.

 @9FSZDK2 from Ohio  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Police body cameras not only provide evidence for a victim of police brutality, but also provide evidence against a false claim of police brutality.

 @9M25PN6  from Pennsylvania  disagreed…2yrs2Y

With body cams for police officers you there is more evidence for if something goes wrong and they need more evidence for court. It also holds police officers accountable knowing that they’re being filmed and their movements are being watched. It’s also for their safety if someone shoots them and they have more evidence.

 @9M27356 from Ohio  commented…2yrs2Y

Many police officers don't know the amendments very well. If anything it is to ensure the officers safety, or the victims safety.

 @9FLKYCGDemocrat from Illinois  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Body cameras will provide undeniable evidence of how an arrest was conducted. It provides documentation of the treatment of the person being arrested and the treatment of the officer.

 @9H38HB8 from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

that police need to have body cameras to see how they deal with situations and that they arent abusing their power

 @9FLKVKW from Missouri  disagreed…3yrs3Y

What reason should police not have body cameras on other than to cover up inequalities and targeted systemic racism?

 @9GLQV6WPeace and Freedom from Nebraska  disagreed…3yrs3Y

There should be a requirement for body police cameras to be worn on duty. It can show what happened and how something happened.

 @9GN3G2X from Texas  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Many incidents can be prevented by Police officers having body cameras, or at least ensure that Officers abusing their power will be held accountable.

 @9F7BQNS from Washington  disagreed…3yrs3Y

Police body cameras prevent the officers in question, if there be any, from fudging the story in their favor. You can't take video out of context when you see literally everything that happens in the situation.

 @BCVVQBW from South Carolina  disagreed…1mo1MO

A suspected criminals words versus a body cam footage of what actually happened is very hard to debate in court. If a suspected criminal says one thing and the live, genuine footage shows another, what is the judge more likely to believe?

 @BCR857H from Utah  disagreed…2mos2MO

Without police body cameras, we, the people, are less protected because there is no longer visual evidence.

 @BCQWRK9 from California  disagreed…2mos2MO

The police body cameras can show the situation and what criminals do, its more descriptive than the police report.

 @BCN35B5Democrat from California  disagreed…2mos2MO

this would bring up a lot of issues because with the body cam people get to see what actually happened from start to finish.

#3 Engaged Police Body Cameras

Body cameras are there to protect both the officer and the citizen. It allows for transparency as well and let's the courts see what actually happened with an incident. Body camera footage provide crucial information needed for cases.

 @BCFQ2GS from Missouri  disagreed…2mos2MO

Police have been given power to enforce the law, if the police don't have body cameras, it would be much harder for them to be held accountable for anything they do. There has already been cases where police turn off their body cameras and do something either illegal, or something they should not be doing in the first place.

 @BBRYPCS from New York  disagreed…3mos3MO

If the Police doesn't wear a body camera, during a court hearing there might not be evidence that the policeman has in order to defend himself or show something that happened that the suspect said didn't.

 @BBQ9FK4 from Pennsylvania  disagreed…3mos3MO

Camera footage is first hand evidence of potential violent interactions, without that it’s hard to know what really happened.

 @BBQ2QKHDemocrat from California  disagreed…3mos3MO

In many situations where a police officer does not have their body cam lots of bad things have happen. For example, planting drugs on a person to get them charged for illegal drug use, different people have died and gotten hurt due to a police office turning off their body cam or even not having one one and harming them.

 @BBPNXDH  from Utah  disagreed…3mos3MO

It takes one bad police officer for them to commit a crime involving rape, burglary, or murder. there should be a very strict psychological test on police officers before they are admitted

 @BBMYMTM from Arkansas  disagreed…3mos3MO

when people find out that there being recorded can put them in danger or maybe the police depending on how they take it

 @BBF3WZ3 from Utah  disagreed…3mos3MO

The police department should be able to see what the cops are doing at all times because they want to make sure the cops are doing what they are supposed to and not lying about what happened

 @BBBG2X2 from Florida  disagreed…3mos3MO

I think police should have body cameras incase something happens to the police or the person being detained, in trouble, or arrested.

 @BB9PGTZSocialist from Washington  disagreed…3mos3MO

If there is no misconduct then police should not be worried.
1) Protects the police officer wearing it
2) Video evidence is extremely reliable
3) Works as a check on police brutality, empiracly proven to prevent violence
4) There should always be increased scrutiny for people in power
Rule of law means officials follow the same rules as everyone else

 @BB9NDJB from Colorado  disagreed…3mos3MO

Lots of cases of victims of police brutality end up losing court cases because they have no evidence, police should not have such high authority if they don't use it right.

 @BB7LRQY from Arizona  disagreed…3mos3MO

If we don't have body cams then how will cops be able to stand up for themselves when someone claims a lie that can be counterd by a body cam, and it allows to put criminals away easier due to the video evidence.

 @BB49PG8 from Missouri  disagreed…4mos4MO

If police are required to wear a body cam then if a police officer does something wrong it will be caught on camera and if someone harms the police officer that will also be caught on camera, It is just a safety precaution.

 @B9Y8CWBNo Labels from New Jersey  disagreed…4mos4MO

I believe police officers should wear body cameras on them in case of an emergency and they are able to capture the evidence that they need.

 @B9XYTCBNo Labels from Florida  disagreed…4mos4MO

The police are there to protect people, and not hurt people, police training is not as detailed as military training and because of this, police should not have access to military equipment.

 @B9QSM2CNo Labels from Mississippi  disagreed…4mos4MO

If police do not wear body camera, if something goes wrong you will have no evidence. The government has a pattern of leaning more towards people in power rather than regular citizens at times. The cameras play a vital role in keeping you, and the officers safe.

 @B9N92L7 from Florida  disagreed…4mos4MO

Police officers represent the state as a whole, and therefore they are acting as public officials. The government should not be private from itself. I also support monitoring for all executive branch officials.

 @B9MV53PJustice party member from Illinois  disagreed…4mos4MO

Yes because without the bodycam no one is held responsible and if a officer dies it will be harder to tell who killed them/how they died.

 @B9292CH from California  disagreed…5mos5MO

body cams are vital, yes it would be harder for officers to give warnings instead of write ups because everything will be on video but it ensures safely and proof of everything that happened.

 @B8YXGJT from California  disagreed…6mos6MO

Humans inevitably feel empowered to act on their own conscience, turning off their body cams and may cause unfavorable actions.

 @B8V8RF9 from North Dakota  disagreed…6mos6MO

Without Body Cameras, legal cases will have no evidence of arrests or certain disputes, which can lead to people getting wrongfully convicted or a police officer being accused of brutality.

 @B8V3ZFN from Massachusetts  disagreed…6mos6MO

Police Body Cameras provide better accountability on the individual’s side whom is being suspected of a crime and if the officer. Both wrongdoing and innocence can be inferred from body cams ensuring great confidence in trust and reliability for each person.

 @B8QZH32 from Virginia  disagreed…6mos6MO

that if we do that then we will have a lot more police brutality and wrong doing of fellow police officers

 @B8LT9X6 from Virginia  disagreed…6mos6MO

Police wouldn't be caught in the act if they didn't which will cause harm unto others, but it would also benefit the police when great harm comes unto them.

 @B854CC5 from Tennessee  disagreed…7mos7MO

well lets think about this, there has been many cases of police pulling someone over just to meet quota. there is also some issues in the world with race still so here is my argument, what if a cop isn't wearing a body camera and says that something happened?, first of all it could help collect evidence if someone is in the wrong but it also provides a bit of safety in a way because it can keep them out of trouble if they are accused of something.
