OSN. je organizace vlád založená v roce 1945 po druhé světové válce. Mezi cíle organizace patří podpora míru a bezpečnosti, ochrana lidských práv, životního prostředí a poskytování humanitární pomoci v případech hladomoru, přírodních katastrof a ozbrojených konfliktů. Mezi nedávné intervence OSN patří občanská válka na Srí Lance v roce 2009 a zemětřesení na Haiti v roce 2010. USA vstoupily do OSN jako zakládající člen v roce 1945. USA jsou největším finančním přispěvatelem do OSN a každoročně přispívají více než 11,5 miliardami dolarů neboli 25 % jejího celkového rozpočtu.
