Yes

Tax on tips are bad and unnecessary. It is money the government is taking away from the people at the disadvantage of everyone involved except them.

 @B2SVZ2L  from Utah  agreed…8mos8MO

Tax-free tips could significantly benefit millions of service industry workers and potentially stimulate economic growth. With the average tipped income in 2018 being $6,000, eliminating federal income tax on this amount would substantially increase take-home pay for workers who often earn below-average wages. This policy has widespread public support, with 67% of Americans opposing taxes on service workers' tips. It could transform industries like home services by attracting and retaining skilled workers without increasing base wages or employer payroll taxes. Moreover, by providing tar…  Read more

Tax Free Tips cuts from federal spending that could be used to combat other issues. While I agree with Tax Free Tips, it can still led to some issues such as less federal income

 @9ZNQL2CGreen from Michigan  answered…11mos11MO

Tips should be optional and workers provided with a livable wage so they don't need to survive off of Tips.

 @9S9C9MHIndependent from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

No, because I feel like the companies should be paying their employees enough money to where we don't have to pay more than we already did. Basically, it's about companies not being greedy and paying little amount of money to their employees.

 @9YBS5MM from Utah  answered…11mos11MO

No, but minimum wage for these workers should be the same as everyone else instead of assuming they'll get tips

 @9SBZ6XRSocialist from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

All service industry employees should be paid a living wage BEFORE tips, and tips should not be taxed.

 @9SBYW42 from Illinois  answered…1yr1Y

As someone who has never been employed at a minimum wage job, or for that matter any job as of yet, i was unaware you had to pay for your received tips. In my mind the tip is saying like: Here you did a wonderful job at serving me and to thank you have this gift of some money. So yes, they should be eliminated. a gift should not be taxed

 @9SC5KTH  from Michigan  answered…1yr1Y

Tipping should be eliminated as a wage category, and current tip wage employers should be required to pay the minimum wage to all employees.

 @9SBCYP5 from Massachusetts  answered…1yr1Y

No, and we should get rid of "tipped minimum-wage." It's time to stop allowing companies to force their labor costs onto the consumer.

 @9SBCVVBSocialist from New York  answered…1yr1Y

Service and hospitality workers should be paid equitably and tips shouldn’t account for a significant amount of their pay. There should be a tax on tips over a certain amount and incentive to report tip income accurately for the employer.

 @B7DK8FW from Pennsylvania  answered…2wks2W

Yes, but also increase the minimum wage and don't include tips in the minimum wage so restaurants can't legally underpay their workers

 @B77GFLD from South Carolina  answered…3wks3W

Yes, but I also feel that workers shouldn't have to rely on tips to make minimum wage. I feel that employees should be paid regularly like any other job.

 @B74B68R from Georgia  answered…3wks3W

I disagree in some cases but I feel that you shouldn't feel obligated to give a tip, if you don't have it. Some people feel entitled to having a tip even if the service wasn't up to par.

 @B6V8W9S from Massachusetts  answered…1mo1MO

It depends on how much the taxes on the tips are costing the average American. If we can keep the tips and remove the taxes that could give workers the power to make their money and also eliminate the factor of excessive taxes on tips.

 @B6TD4S7 from Mississippi  answered…1mo1MO

I think tips shouldn't be the main source of income for some people. As many barley make it with tips on slow days compared to those who get payed with tips and hourly.

 @B6GXZ6X from Virginia  answered…2mos2MO

It doesn’t address the underlying problem which is we shouldn’t tax people making under 50 k period.

 @B6GLV9B from Maryland  answered…2mos2MO

No, and the U.S. "tipping" system needs to go altogether. Employers either need to pay their employees a decent wage or do something else with their time.

 @B6FQFJT from Florida  answered…2mos2MO

Yes, PERMANENTLY; not just for the presidents current term. Presidents should not be able to campaign on this idea and put it on a timer.

 Deletedanswered…4mos4MO

Yes, but i would prefer service and hospitality workers be paid the same wages and not a smaller wage + tips

 @B5MXSCH from California  answered…4mos4MO

I believe corrporations should not rely on a non required fund from customers in order to pay their employees. I think if the workers received a livable minimum wage then we can tax their tip along with their steady income. But without a minimum livable income, taxing on tipes is weird and shoulldn't be done because servers arent guaranteed tips.

 @B592HSW from Michigan  answered…5mos5MO

Yes, But tipping culture and being the primary way employees are paid should be removed. Pretty much only the US and Canada follow this and no other country does. It hurts the consumer more. The staff should be paid by the business owner and not based on tips.

 @B4PRD69 from Virginia  answered…6mos6MO

No, consumers should not provide tips; rather, service and hospitality workers should be paid a livable wage by their employer.

  @jenova3327 from Connecticut  answered…6mos6MO

No

No, workers should be paid a livable wage regardless and not rely on the generosity of their customers to earn enough money to survive.

 @B62J79N from Tennessee  answered…3mos3MO

No. End wage labor as profit is merely extracted surplus value from what the worker produced, and turned into a form of capital accumulation.

 @B5ZWGCBProgressivefrom Maine  answered…3mos3MO

Yes, but I would prefer that employees in both the service and hospitality industries be paid living wages.

 @B5XNDG7 from Texas  answered…3mos3MO

They should be paid a living wage and not have to rely on tips as substantial portion of their compensation and tips should be taxed the same as income

 @B426HMF from Arkansas  answered…7mos7MO

As a server, it would hurt me if people stopped tipping, however I think servers should be given the full minimum plus tips

 @8X7C94TSocialist  from Utah  answered…7mos7MO

No. Tipping is a racist, classist broken custom that has become way too prolific. We should provide a living wage. Not taxing tips perpetuates a broken system, insentivizes employers to pay employees less, and may proliferate the tipping system as workers try to claim more of their wages as tips to avoid taxes.

 @B3R53RWProgressive from Florida  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but tips should only be allowed for jobs offering service with their products that is not otherwise paid for. For example, tip a server at a restaurant, but not a delivery driver when you’ve already paid a fee for delivery.

 @9XGX8RC from Minnesota  answered…11mos11MO

Just to say something remove tips yep I said it remove tips I’m done with tips I paid for this service so I don’t want people, coming to beg me for tips like I just want one day to spend with my kids I don’t want people to ruin it

 @9XGWC6V from New Mexico  answered…11mos11MO

There big thing on cash tips is there is no tax you get to take all that cash home and you have to pay taxes later because taxes

 @9XBGP2N from Kansas  answered…11mos11MO

i think that the gorvernment should be taxed by the healthcare workers and we should all be getting paid

 @9X9MDZ3 from Iowa  answered…11mos11MO

For cetain things I believe that tips shouldn't be aloud. But when it comes to restaurants or places that serve you, tips are good.

 @9WWY2K2 from New York  answered…12mos12MO

Tipping culture is outdated and employees in positions where tipping is common should be better paid.

 @9WTX224 from Ohio  answered…12mos12MO

Most people making tips in this situation aren’t going to be taxed to make it worth the tax being taken away because they are going to get most of the money back in their return anyways.

 @9WTT62X  from Indiana  answered…12mos12MO

Workers in every field should be paid a livable wage for the work they do. Tipping should only be done to award exceptional service, not just because it is an expectation.

 @9WTDMT3  from Illinois  answered…12mos12MO

Yes but with an increase in pay so service and hospitality workers don't depend on tips to make a wage

 @9WMWP7N from Arizona  answered…12mos12MO

Yes, but only if they eliminate “tip credits” and require workers to be paid a fair living wage by their employer before tips are calculated.

 @9W9YLHR from Georgia  answered…12mos12MO

We should get rid of taxes on tips because the taxes are just going to take away what the hospitality workers earned

 @9W7V64Zfrom Maine  answered…12mos12MO

Remove tips all together, making them optional for good service, and pay those people appropriately.

 @9VQ2XBC from Texas  answered…12mos12MO

Yes but Enforce a higher minimum wage wage on those type of workers nationally so that the generic public does r have to offset their costs via tips

 @9VPV557Natural Law from Alabama  answered…12mos12MO

Not eliminate but reduce, hospitality workers can work several hours on end saving lives I think a tip is the very least we could do

 @9VDB64W from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but prevent employers from cutting wages after such a change, as they would interpret this as a warrant to pay less.

 @9TS78H7 from Georgia  answered…1yr1Y

I think if the government is going to take taxes from everyone who works they should take them from everyone no matter where they work.

 @9TQCYVC  from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and we should work to eliminate tipping culture and require businesses to pay their employees a fair wage not subsiduzed by their customers

  @patrickxwalsh from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but employees should not be reliant on tips to survive. The focus should be on demanding that employers pay all workers a living wage.

 @9TQ8JH6 from Pennsylvania  answered…1yr1Y

This is a staggeringly stupid idea which will lead to both EXTRAORDINARY ABUSE and a huge reduction in tax revenue, which will necessitate raising rates and reducing or eliminating deductions, exemptions, and exclusions. A desperate political candidate whiffed this idea in order to "buy" the votes of such workers.

 @9THNLHK from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

No, eliminating taxes on tips only serves owners' interests while decreasing social security for workers.

 @9T5XCT8Democrat from Iowa  answered…1yr1Y

No, eliminate alternative minimum wage to ensure all tipped workers have a higher base pay and benefits such that they do not require high tips.

 @9T5WYFV from New York  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, a tip should be a reward for good service, not a requirement to make up for underpaid employees.

 @9SYT32J from Utah  answered…1yr1Y

Only if minimum wages are increased for service and hospitality workers to the same minimum wage as other industries.

 @9SXLF3NProgressivefrom Guam  answered…1yr1Y

Yes tips should not be taxed however there should be systems in place that eventually eliminate them from existing because hospitality workers should not have to rely on them for their livlihoods.

 @9SW6DXW from Colorado  answered…1yr1Y

No, Those employees should have regular wages like any other job that do not require guilt tripping customers. Prices should be transparent and if a business can't afford to pay their employees to maintain profit, then they should just go out of business.

 @9SMLT8PRepublican from Massachusetts  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and also eliminate taxes for bonuses and any other similar payments that should be classified under existing gift tax exemptions

 @9SMHTSLSocialist  from Maryland  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and service plus hospitality workers should be guaranteed a wage that is at least the minimum wage

 @9SLS4WT from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

I think tips should not be someone's main source of income and that companies who can't afford to pay their employees should not exist

  @hannahmm22  from Oklahoma  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and the government should move to one minimum wage for all workers so service and hospitality workers do not have to depend on tips for a living wage and business have to pay all their employees fairly

 @9SGKYK5Progressive from Minnesota  answered…1yr1Y

No tipping. Support small businesses to be able to pay fair wages. CEOs have percentage cap of how much more they are paid than their lowest paid worker. Subsidize practices that support life.

 @9SBX9LW from Illinois  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and get rid of tips for service workers as a means of basic income and pay service workers a living wage without relying on tips.

 @9SBVL59 from Georgia  answered…1yr1Y

The government should mandate that service and hospitality workers receive a fixed salary like any other employee

 @9SBQYXDfrom Guam  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but ensure the tax law is focused on blue-collar jobs for low- and middle-income citizens and not for companies at large

 @9SBHHY3Democrat  from Illinois  answered…1yr1Y

No, we should move to a no tip nation and force employers to pay their waiters and wait staff a livable wage.

 @9SBG93H from Massachusetts  answered…1yr1Y

Service and hospitality workers should earn higher wages that remove the need for tips in the first place.

 @9SB966R from South Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but there should be income limits and it should be prohibited for financial advisors such as hedge funds

 @9SB4WBR from Ohio  answered…1yr1Y

There should be no taxing on tips, and furthermore, it should be illegal to pay service workers less than the federal minimum wage (which should be increased)

 @9SB4D7LProgressive from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

They need to change the policy that’s put into place for S-Corps, C-corps, as well as LLCs. Referring to the matter of there taxation laws on undervalued employees. Pensions, W2, and 401k need revaluation.

 @9S9W55RCommunist from Virginia  answered…1yr1Y

No, the government should force corporations to pay their employees fair wages rather than relying on the generosity of customers.

 @9S9NLVZ from California  answered…1yr1Y

I say they should but, depending on the amount of time they've worked doing service or hospitality.

 @9S9MYZL from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

All income should be taxed the same however companies should not have tips be a part of their companies compensation. Companies should pay their employees and charge appropriatly to support those costs.

 @9S9KB8C  from New Hampshire  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, but only on small secondary tips. For example, if someone pays for a service but adds a small tip on after, that shouldn't have to be claimed.

 @9S8RK77 from Missouri  answered…1yr1Y

Tip culture should be reduced or done away with. Just because a worker has down time between busy times doesn't mean they should be paid less than a living wage.

 @9S8QT47 from Tennessee  answered…1yr1Y

Tips should be a thing of the past and they should just earn a full wage upfront that is taxed normally.

 @B3MQPKL from Arizona  answered…7mos7MO

No, The government should make it easier for workers to get paid more and not have to survive on tips but you should still have the option to tip.

 @B3DVFJ9  from Kentucky  answered…7mos7MO

Yes, but with a clearly defined classification on which jobs are allowed to pay less than minimum wage where tips are needed by the employee. The issue comes with those 'tipping' friends or as bribes, so I'd prefer everyone just be paid a minimum wage

 @B34HB8P from Massachusetts  answered…8mos8MO

Yes, remove taxing the people mandatorily. If a governing people can be self sufficient in thier respective community then that is the only form of taxation that should exist.

 @B29JFG4 from Tennessee  answered…9mos9MO

I need a clear proposal on how the government could make up the difference from the loss of taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers. Also, taxation needs to be fair for everyone.

 @9ZRHKPJ from California  answered…11mos11MO

No, removing tax on tips increases the taxes taken out of their income, there’s a federal tax and state tax which means theres a mandatory deduction coming out of an individuals income and depdnding on state more will be taken out because the state minimum wage is higher; if the taxes aren’t taken out of tips, the money has to come from their paychecks which means less money overall compared to being taxed on tips and less tax on income. This outcome has cause employees to not only intentionally claim less than what they’re making, it also causes companies to charge more so the tip percent will be higher for employees. Prices are going up and less money is being made.

 @9ZJ9QQX from North Carolina  answered…11mos11MO

I think tips are good for waiter and waitress, and those type of people, but tipping is getting out of hand.

 @9ZF56YD from Texas  answered…11mos11MO

I like to give people tips for good service. Though forcing people to tip when they should pay their workers more it’s just greedy.

 @9XXX22B  from Connecticut  answered…11mos11MO

You should not need to rely on tips to live. Service and hospitality workers should make minimum wage.

 @9XXC8W4 from Rhode Island  answered…11mos11MO

Tipping should not be obligatory, and current tip workers should be paid in full either by their employers or made full by the government. Tips are gifts and should be rewarded when deserved, not all the time.

 @9XMGNJ6 from Oklahoma  answered…11mos11MO

Yes, as long as the amount is below minimum wage. Above minimum wage, tips+wages should be taxed equal to wages without tips.

 @9XLNZ2QSocialist from New York  answered…11mos11MO

Yes but tipping culture should overall be eliminated - employees should be paid living wages, tips are a nicety

 @9XLDBJQ from Ohio  answered…11mos11MO

There should be a country wide agreed tip (like 10%) that is automatically added, or just no tip at all.

 @101jathan from Utah  answered…12mos12MO

No, it could open loopholes for tax evasion and tipping culture should be eliminated wherever possible- just pay people a living wage.

 @9PXYWVN  from Michigan  answered…12mos12MO

No, but we should work to eliminate tip culture by paying service and hospitality workers a livable wage.

 @9VQB7HC from Pennsylvania  answered…12mos12MO

No. Our future social security payments are dependent on how much we contribute now. Servers would be hurt later when they need it most.

 @9VKFSLV from Utah  answered…1yr1Y

No, instead eliminate exemptions to the minimum wage for service and hospitality workers to eliminate tipping altogether. Employers should be paying a living wage to these employees.

 @9VFVMCM  from Kansas  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, and tipped wages should be eliminated. Everyone should receive a living wage from their employer.

 @9TD528M from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

I believe that tip wages should be considered a bonus on top of an employees LIVABLE wage. Tipping culture has allowed companies to underpay and mistreat their employees.

 @9TBRQGC from New York  answered…1yr1Y

I think tipping is out of control and employers should be paying their wages not earning it through tips so personally I say think we need to stop tipping for every little thing

 @9TBBS8K from Washington  answered…1yr1Y

Yes, because service and hospitality workers typically earn less than the average person so the tips that they earn help support them. While minimum wage covers the bare necessities, tips can help cover more comfort.

 @558YLXVSocialist answered…1yr1Y

The government should eliminate tips and require businesses to pay service and hospitality workers a living wage.

 @9S92QSK from Florida  answered…1yr1Y

I think they should make it to where they don’t have to get tips so they can live they should be able to survive off of their wages from working not depend on tips

 @9S7LT39 from California  answered…1yr1Y

People who receive tips and are at minimum wage... and less than a 1,000 shouldn't pay tax ..it's a gift
