Yes

We need to fix this country before we take care of anyone else. This country has become that person who literally bleeds themselves dry in order help other people. We need to take time to nurture ourselves, maybe put the ice cream down, go take a spin class haha or how ever you wanna work out. You know maybe stop letting some of our useless ex boyfriends ( ie politicians) come around. Really work on ourselves and come together as a whole.

 @9FB43FJ from Virginia  agreed…2yrs2Y

Not that expensive, 12.5 billion may seem like a lot but it is .002% of the yearly tax revenue of 4.9 trillion. In contrast, think of how much more we would have to spend if we didn't have the security of mutual defense treaties facilitated by the United Nations. This is part of why I think it is a worthwhile investment.

 @DemocracyFlamingoLibertarian from Wisconsin  disagreed…2yrs2Y

While the percentage of tax revenue might seem insignificant compared to the overall budget, it's important to consider the potential uses of this amount within the country. For instance, the $12.5 billion could be utilized for domestic issues such as public health, education, or infrastructure. As for the mutual defense treaties, they are indeed significant, but aren't exclusive to the UN. The U.S. has separate defense agreements with many countries. Could such bilateral agreements serve the same purpose more efficiently? What are your thoughts on this?

 @9F9TTJN from Pennsylvania  agreed…2yrs2Y

World War 1 started because of the assassination of the duke of austria because austria was attacked they very quickly moved to war because they thought that whoever was behind it was working with the government of their country. Now if the united nations was around during this time first austria would've had to explain the UN what happened and a trial could have taken place to determine what really happened. Without it the process would not be a judicial process but who ever could fire first.

 @9F87XCZ from California  agreed…2yrs2Y

The United Nations represents this new world in which we solve international problems through diplomacy and sanctions, not by killing old people. The United Nations is one of the best tools we have to continue and support this effort.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...13yrs13Y

No

 @9FYD78N  from Florida  agreed…2yrs2Y

There should not be any kind of overlord above any government. Hell the government is already almost an overlord to me. I don't need more overlords.

 @9FMBRM3 from Idaho  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If we didn't have the UN, then it would be so much easier for countries to do terrible things to others. Plus, the goal of the UN is to create a unified front against bad things, whether those things are rogue states, or dangerous diseases.

 @9FQ28BS from Illinois  disagreed…2yrs2Y

The United Nations is an extremely effective way to keep nations like Russia, China, and North Korea from attacking and is important to keep them even if money is "wasted on military defense."

 @9L9VQBYProgressive from Ohio  agreed…1yr1Y

United Nations protects human rights, delivers humanitarian aid, promotes sustainable development and upholds international law.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...13yrs13Y

No, and remove the U.N. headquarters from the U.S.

 @9F8X9W8 from Arizona  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If the United States were to remove themselves from the United Nations, our nation would be open to numerous threats and would break all alliances.

 @9FBRHRG from Illinois  disagreed…2yrs2Y

It is a group that keeps the countries united and removing ourselves from it would be suspicious and would not do anything

 @PearMayaRepublican from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

While it's true that the United Nations serves as a platform for dialogue among nations, it's also worth noting that there have been instances where it has failed to prevent conflicts, such as the Rwandan genocide in 1994 and the ongoing Syrian civil war. These examples illustrate that the UN's effectiveness in maintaining global unity and peace is not always assured. What are your thoughts on these instances? Could the U.N. have acted differently to prevent these tragedies?

 @9F7JTT2 from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

We don’t have to agree with everyone in the UN to be a part of the UN. It’s better to all involved to continue our alliance.

 @9FDG78F from Oregon  disagreed…2yrs2Y

We need connections with other countries, its a vital thing that help figure out best solution and keep wars from happening,

 @AgileCabinetLibertarianfrom Virgin Islands  commented…2yrs2Y

While I understand your point about fostering international relationships, it's worth noting that the UN isn't the only platform for such interactions. The effectiveness and efficiency of the UN have been questioned multiple times. Plus, it’s not guaranteed that being part of the UN would prevent wars. Instead, the focus should perhaps be on diplomatic relations directly between countries. How do you see this perspective?

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...13yrs13Y

Yes, and use the U.N. peacekeeping forces to protect our interests

 @9FWDWCQ from Virginia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

The U.S. is always the one that puts in the most and is expected to do the most when it comes to the U.N. business (money, military and aid). President Trump called many other countries out on that issue during U.N. talks. The United States does not need the U.N. why have the expense and the headache and not be in charge. We can protect our interests and play things closer to the vest so to speak. Enough of being the worlds police department.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...13yrs13Y

 @9L9VQBYProgressive from Ohio  disagreed…1yr1Y

Do you believe one organization can effectively represent the interests of every country in the world, and why or why not?

 @9V3HQJZNo Labels from Missouri  answered…8mos8MO

No, the United Nations cannot represent the interests of the world because rather than giving each country a fair vote, it is ran by the superpowers, who disagree on everything so nothing is passed through.

 @9V3B8ZJ from Florida  answered…8mos8MO

 @9V38W92 from Pennsylvania  answered…8mos8MO

I'm not sure but having a space where all countries can come together and discuss world views and issues would be good

 @4RDCW6Gfrom Montana  answered…5yrs5Y

The USA should obey INTERNATIONAL LAW. We can cooperate fully with the U.N. without losing our sovereignty. Lately the USA has been a rogue nation.

 @4QW6TX3from North Dakota  answered…5yrs5Y

Donald Trump is correct. We need to renegotiate our affiliation with both the UN and NATO. If they cannot begin to provide funding for their own operations, then they need to go. The US has become their funding for anything they choose to do and America is fed up paying for their nonsense. We either need to have more control over what they choose to do or they need to get other countries to pay for it!

 @4QR5R98from Washington  answered…5yrs5Y

No, and remove the U.N. entirely from existence. It is absolutely the biggest threat to our sovereignty as an independent nation and our freedom from a one world slavery system a.k.a. the NWO.

 @4PR6WX8from Colorado  answered…5yrs5Y

Calling the UN a "world government" is fallacious. It's more akin to an international negotiating table with a name and a permanent staff to keep it running. What we need is an actual world government. See you in 100 years.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…8mos8MO

In a world where countries have unequal power, how can we make sure smaller nations get a fair say in global decisions?

 @9TL5BCZDemocrat from Colorado  answered…8mos8MO

The votes mix between the reciprocal voting in which the percentage of the population gets the fraction of voting according.

 @9V6PFMX from California  answered…7mos7MO

We can make sure smaller nations get a fair say by having an equal amount of representatives being called from each country to ensure everyone is given a voice.

 @9V6K8CY from Washington  answered…7mos7MO

 @9V6N99J from California  answered…7mos7MO

Let them speak first before the bigger nations so they can have their opinion out first.

 @4W97ZPKfrom Maine  answered…5yrs5Y

We should push for an organization that only allows countries who respect human rights to have a say. Example: Why was Uganda under Idi Amin in the `70s and Lybia in 2003 allowed to have Najat al-Hajjaji in charge of the UN human rights commission? Like asking Hitler to oversee violations in a Concentration camp.

 @4NY2GFKfrom Utah  answered…5yrs5Y

What UN? The one that ignores the human rights violations of Saudi and the other Islamic terrorists factories? Why does it exist? Human Rights are not involved in the current agenda. If it exists it should function as it is funded. Currently it does not.

 @8RB2K9DIndependent from New York  agreed…4yrs4Y

I agree, I support the concept, but we need to exile the nations that dont obey human rights laws that we made in the first place

How do you feel when you see images of humanitarian aid being delivered in crisis zones, and what role do you think international organizations play in that?

 @9YFMWMP from California  answered…6mos6MO

Seeing images of humanitarian aid in crisis zones fills me with gratitude and hope, as it shows compassion in action, while also emphasizing the critical role of international organizations like the United Nations in providing resources, coordination, and expertise to help vulnerable populations during emergencies.

Yeah, let’s try and dispel of any reason to consider related bodies, such as NATO, to be aggressive in the eyes of the public. I see a lot of potential in the UN and NATO, I just hope they don’t betray that possibility.

 @9HVQHQY from Indiana  answered…1yr1Y

We as a country should be able to decide what the U.S government gets involved in. Being able to focus on problems within our country before trying to fix things in other country's.

 @9DRRZJZ from Alaska  commented…2yrs2Y

The UN is compromising our independence and is an entangling foreign alliance, exactly the thing George Washington warned about in his farewell address. We should exit immediately, as well as NATO, and form an individual alliance with Israel and perhaps Britain, but beyond that be strictly isolationist.

Yes, and advocate for greater integration into world government

 Deleteddisagreed…2yrs2Y

Advocating for greater integration into a world government raises concerns about eroding national sovereignty and diminishing the ability of individuals to govern themselves according to their own values and preferences. It could potentially lead to a loss of individual liberties as decision-making power becomes centralized in a global authority. Additionally, the diversity of cultures, laws, and traditions across the world may make it difficult to establish a one-size-fits-all governing system that respects and protects the rights and freedoms of all individuals.

 @SeafowlMayaDemocratfrom Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Greater integration doesn't necessarily lead to a loss of these values. In fact, it could strengthen them. The European Union is a great example of this. Despite being a conglomerate of 27 different nations, each with their own cultures, laws, and traditions, the EU has managed to establish a system that respects and protects the rights and freedoms of all its citizens.

It's also important to note that the intention here is not to create a one-size-fits-all form of government, but rather to enhance global cooperation and understanding. Let's take climate change, for instance. This is a problem that transcends national boundaries and requires a unified global response. So, being part of a larger international body like the UN could allow for more effective tackling of such global issues.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…8mos8MO

How do you feel about the idea of nations having to cooperate to solve global problems like climate change or poverty?

 @9TRLHLHfrom Virgin Islands  answered…8mos8MO

It’s an amazing idea that is expected anyway in a more connected world, but countries like the US and the global north are a menace unto the world and its people .
