Help

 @983K76N from Pennsylvania  agreed…2yrs2Y

I strongly agree that labor unions help the economy as it ensures that worker's will have their rights protected which will lead to their productivity increasing due to high morale. I personally support them since my eldest brother himself is part of a labor union, and it's lead by my uncle and was founded by my grandfather (who unsuccessfully ran for house one time).

Help, but ban their ability to make political donations

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...11yrs11Y

Help, in theory but have recently become corrupt and should have their powers limited

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...11yrs11Y

Hurt, I support some private unions but am strongly against public unions

 @9FWF5QQIndependent from Georgia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Unions shouldn't exist because corporations should take care of their employees. Seeing as that isn't the case, unions should be everywhere.

Help, but limit the powers of certain unions with a history of corruption or lack of accountability like police unions

 @ISIDEWITHasked…8mos8MO

In your opinion, is it better to negotiate as an individual or as part of a larger group, like a union, when seeking better pay or fair treatment at work?

 @9YFGYZGRepublicanfrom Maine  answered…6mos6MO

 @9WXM5VK from Pennsylvania  answered…6mos6MO

I would say a larger group because I'm with people who are on the same page as me and would agree with what I'm talking about.

 @9TS4BH5answered…8mos8MO

When starting an union, is important to negotiate as a part of a larger group, because you are not only negotiating for myself but for the people

 @em_is_theta🏳️‍⚧️ from Utah  answered…6mos6MO

Unions are vital to ensure worker’s rights. We should do everything we can to support unions.

 @9FWBB4Y from Arizona  answered…2yrs2Y

Hurt. Unions served their purpose, but not they have become just as corrupt as the corporations they were fighting.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

What exactly do you think their purpose is, and how have they already done it..?

  @anim_xst from Texas  disagreed…1mo1MO

#1 Engaged Labor Unions

Most significant labor unions were established when laborers were worked to near-death for a ridiculous amount of time. With the eight-hour workdays, forty-hour workweeks, and many labor laws we have in place right now, I believe unions have served their purpose.

 @9HB5MKV from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

Help, but limit the powers of unions with a history of corruption or obstructing accountability such as police unions

 @9L74FFC from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

Help, but limit the powers of unions with a history of avoiding accountability for misconduct like police unions

 @9D6RZXM from Virginia  answered…2yrs2Y

Help in the sense that they ensure fair pay and work conditions, but too often are led by bad actors who protect incompetent employees

 @9GB8PDQ from Oklahoma  answered…2yrs2Y

Hurt, They allow for labor workers to decrease their dedication and commitment and expect equal pay for those who put in the "extra mile"

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Workers who "put in the extra mile" are doing so against their own class interests.

 @99QXK2HIndependentfrom Virgin Islands  answered…2yrs2Y

By and large, the time has passed when unions were critical, but they should not be banned. However, hey should also not be able to force employees to join

 @8WX2B45 from Virginia  answered…4yrs4Y

Both. As a bulwark against abuse of workers, unions provide an invaluable service to their members. However, too many unions have abandoned this basic responsibility in favor of exerting political power to protect outmoded practices and impede innovation.

 @B2JRMDK from Alabama  answered…4mos4MO

Help, unions have helped improve labor conditions over the decades. But, leadership can get faulty, so its good to stay aware and reform to the needs of the people under the unions.

 @9D3RPBQfrom Guam  answered…2yrs2Y

Maybe unions always help the economy because the economy should be about the people and grassroots movements focusing on the people and workers are necessary

 @9FQMHF8 from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

Help,However these Labor unions must be Controlled and Organized by the state.With Independent labor unions banned

  @patrickwynneLibertarian from Texas  answered…5yrs5Y

There are instances where they help, and others where they have hurt. Strong labor unions are necessary to ensure powerful organization do not suppress worker's rights.

 @9VJN68HIndependent from Massachusetts  answered…7mos7MO

I am torn on this. I think setting up a union is an important right for Americans and theoretically helps with the balance of power between owners, management and workers, but the standards need to be very high. It should not be used to get paid more working less, or to over-protect underperforming workers

 @9S2PDWW from Virginia  answered…9mos9MO

After the client of labor unions in the latter half of the 20th century, many jobs were lost, and salaries went down. Labor unions have the ability to help the economy by promoting better wages, benefits, and working conditions for the workers. But the issue with labor unions is they can become corrupt and can drive corporations and companies into the mud never rise again. Labor unions can definitely help, but they can also hurt. It is important we find a balance between how much can a union realistically demand and how much is a company allowed to say no to before they have to give in. Is also important to remember that labor unions do not always represent their workers, Sometimes have favorite groups or sometimes they fight for benefits for those under them and it is not always what The workers demanded.

  @mechanicalloser from Texas  answered…1yr1Y

Help, but with a focus on ensuring they operate with integrity and true representation of their members' needs.

 @9G3DHMG from Wisconsin  answered…2yrs2Y

Hurt, the Government should abolish all forms of unions and have all union members receive the death penalty.

 @9DSL36Q from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

Help,However I’m in favor of Labour Unions being Controlled And organized by the State.And no independent Labour Unions Allowed

 @8GRKBP4 from Texas  answered…5yrs5Y

Labor unions are supposed to protect workers. If the economy is affected negatively it means the corporations were abusing their workers and now the bad economy is a byproduct of corruption coming to light.

 @ISIDEWITHasked…8mos8MO

Have you ever considered the ethical responsibility businesses have towards their workers when it comes to wages and working conditions?

 @9TM3SM9 from Pennsylvania  answered…8mos8MO

I feel like companies treat workers like trash so i feel companies should have to pay more and have working conditions be safer

 @9TM2VVG from Illinois  answered…8mos8MO

I feel that they pay well but it is very hard work and is definitely a commitment

 @98FBB62 from Massachusetts  answered…2yrs2Y

 @8WTHFYP from Nebraska  answered…4yrs4Y

Labor unions should be formed in response to a major issue that requires group action, solve said issue, then dissolve instead of becoming lobbying groups.

 @972XDKH from Pennsylvania  answered…3yrs3Y

 @8T7R5TL from New York  answered…4yrs4Y

Labor unions definitely hurt the economy, but I still support them because workers/employees need power too

 @8JD9LG8 from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

This is a ridiculous question. The purpose of unions is not to impact the economy but to help workers.

 @8GJQNVHSocialist from Georgia  answered…5yrs5Y

Even if they hurt the economy in the sense of making corporations pay more, worker’s right matter more

 @8WBW7TZ from Florida  answered…4yrs4Y

Depends on how much the union leadership exploits their position for their own personal gain

 @92BWNVN from Texas  answered…3yrs3Y

I think labor unions help the economy. My Grandpa was actually in a labor union.

 @8X6VWHQ from Michigan  answered…4yrs4Y

Labor unions are meant to protect employees from employer abuses. This is a necessary harm to the economy that maintains a quality of life

 @8KSQZLD from Maryland  answered…5yrs5Y

Unions created safe working environments and livable wages. However, they have become too political. Pros and cons of unions.

 @8J7FFB4Progressive from Georgia  answered…5yrs5Y

They are a check on corporate power, and are more necessary the less that government does.

 @8HT2D2FSocialist from California  answered…5yrs5Y

Help, except in the case of some unions where the people working need to be held publicly accountable, like the police union and occasionally teacher's union

 @99YW9XG from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

Hurt, but are neccesary to stop corporate abuse and greed

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  commented…2yrs2Y

How do they hurt..?

 @9CLWDVD from Michigan  commented…2yrs2Y

We need to stop conflating what's good for the economy with what's good for the American people.

 @BassBennySocialist from Montana  disagreed…2yrs2Y

A healthy economy can lead to more job opportunities, higher wages, and increased government revenue for public services. Meanwhile, a robust and healthy population can contribute to economic growth by providing a strong labor force. Therefore, it's not about separating the two, but finding a balance where both can thrive.

 @8FVJQ6ZSocialistfrom Maine  answered…5yrs5Y

 @B58P2QNSocialist from New York  answered…5 days5D

I don’t care whether they’re good or bad for the economy that’s overwhelmingly owned by a tiny elite fraction of the population. Unions exist to advocate for the interests of workers, which is why I almost always support them.

 @B58NX8HIndependent from Kansas  answered…5 days5D

Hello there labor unions do not hurt the economy they just help register workers into a labor force and giving them employee rights

 @B58JJKS from Kansas  answered…5 days5D

Neither we should have labor unions but make sure they are accountable for their actions and to make sure that psychological they work for there union members and workers

 @B583CPD from Rhode Island  answered…6 days6D

They can either be helpful or hurtful depending on how they function. As long as they aren't publicly funded...

 @B56VSQQ from Nebraska  answered…1wk1W

I believe local unions are essential to protect the rights of the worker. Nation-wide unions however are only corrupt and unaccountable political organizations that should be abolished.

 @B56H9WQ from Illinois  answered…1wk1W

I support unions when they work for their people. I do not support unions backing political candidates

 @B52DWYM from Virginia  answered…2wks2W

Unions can be a great help to people with limited education or opportunity, but their financial corruption is too well-proven not to want careful scrutiny applied to them on an ongoing basis.

 @B4Z4QPMfrom PR  answered…2wks2W

Labor unions don't hurt or help, they look out for the interests of the workers while the company looks out for the interests of the company. The tug of war game they play is good.

 @B4QPLJS from North Carolina  answered…3wks3W

Help, but employees shouldn't be forced to join a union or pay union dues as a requirement for employment.

 @B3SSJNF  from Illinois  answered…4wks4W

yes, and all workers private or public should be coverend undera union by law, and they should be given more power

 @B4L3KBH from Texas  answered…1mo1MO

They are good, especially small ones, but not because of their affect on the economy; rather because they give workers security and belonging.

 @B4KLCSB from California  answered…1mo1MO

they help give worker more control over their wages and working conditions but their demands must be reasonable

 @B4HC669Communist from Ohio  answered…1mo1MO

Unions support workers. Workers support the economy. There would not be an economy without workers. There would not be a country without workers.

 @B4H3JT7 from Florida  answered…1mo1MO

Hurt but that’s the point. Unions should be allowed to protect worker’s rights morality is more important then money.

 @B4GV2DZ from Virginia  answered…1mo1MO

Meh. I personally don’t think they’re that impactful on the economy, so I honestly don’t care in the slightest.

 @B4FCJW4Republican from Georgia  answered…1mo1MO

Hurt, because they lead to paycuts, higher inflation, higher unemployment, a bad supply chain, a bad GDP, and bad trade.

 @B4DZVF8 from California  answered…1mo1MO

Neither. They're a tool. That tool can be used well or misused and abused. The tool itself is neutral.

 @B4D6KHP from Georgia  answered…1mo1MO

Hurt because of paycuts, high unemployment, a bad supply chain, a bad GDP, bad trade, and higher inflation.

 @B4B7TKS from Pennsylvania  answered…1mo1MO

Help, and they should be granted complete control over our economy with Workers having a democratic oversight of them.

 @B49ZKFT from Florida  answered…1mo1MO

Hurt however I still support them to make sure workers are being treated fairly morality is far more important than economic growth

 @B3ZYM5D from Georgia  answered…2mos2MO

Labor unions hurt the economy because they lead to higher inflation and inflame the unemployment rate which leads to assaults on trade, the GDP, and the supply chain

 @B3Z2X62 from Georgia  answered…2mos2MO

 @6L3XVCXProgressive  from Wisconsin  answered…2mos2MO

they help the economy overall but hurt the business that has the union but if the business used the advantage they have to help the common good etc it would be even better generally assuming a perfect world that had all the variables but obviously that doesnt exist and since employees inherently have less power than their bosses they are not equally represented in a business sense without union and all parties have to be represented to have the most optimal outcome overall generally speaking for all parties involved

 @B3VGV2T  from California  answered…2mos2MO

Labor unions generally help the economy by increasing wages and benefits, reducing inequality, and improving working conditions.
Benefits of labor unions
Higher wages: Union workers earn more than nonunion workers with similar jobs and experience.
Better benefits: Union workers are more likely to have employer-provided health insurance, retirement plans, and paid leave.
Safer workplaces: Unions help protect workers from hazards and improve workplace safety.
Reduced inequality: Unions help reduce wage gaps based on gender, race, and ethnicity.
Improved working conditions: Unions negotiate…  Read more

 @B3NPQBN from Kansas  answered…2mos2MO

Both. They may cause loss of money because of strikes but at the same time them bargaining for higher wages will increase the money the middle and lower-working class has and reduce the wealth gap among Americans.

 @B3N675CDemocrat from Michigan  answered…2mos2MO

Unions help ensure that workers are fairly paid & safe. They are proven to help the economy. There should however be NO lobbying by unions, corporations, or private persons.

 @9992HTR  from GU  answered…2mos2MO

Help. Worker and trade unions are important for a strong middle-class and can help with strengthening worker protections and prevent outsourcing. I would transition to a classless society where local worker councils elected by the people have the power.

 @B3K383X from California  answered…2mos2MO

I think it hurts and helps the economy, it provides protection for those who need it but then there are under skilled employees that take advantage

 @B3JM2BL from North Carolina  answered…2mos2MO

Hurt, and ban their ability to make political donations. In theory they could help, but they have become corrupt and should have their powers limited.

 @B3DPRMP from Iowa  answered…2mos2MO

Help with regulation; but hurt without adequate controls preventing managerial gaslighting and malpractice.

 @B397LPVfrom Guam  answered…3mos3MO

Hurt while most of union have good intentions but many union worker saw this as loophole for their own benefit they can abuse their power with Medium side and small side business owner who can't refuse and not hire union worker.

 @B352ZDCfrom Maine  answered…3mos3MO

They provide vital protections to workers, but their powers should be restricted for public sector workers. They can either help or hurt the economy.

 @B2Y98K7Independent from Michigan  answered…3mos3MO

The aid provided by labor unions should be provided by the government, unions have become too much like a pseudo-government

 @B2XQJHDfrom Guam  answered…3mos3MO

 @B2SZWC9 from California  answered…3mos3MO

The economic system should fundamentally change to become democratically accountable to workers and owned by workers. Whether new technology or workers are introduced, workers will be able to choose how to address this instead of constantly fighting the owner class.

 @B2PJB7D from Texas  answered…3mos3MO

Lean Hurt Nationalize Them, merge them into one Central Trade Union under the secretary of labor that can engage in negotiations and strikes with the backing of the government

 @B2HQXYL from Oklahoma  answered…4mos4MO

Both? I think that labor unions help keep corporations in check but can get out of control if too corrupt.

 @B2DQ58F from Indiana  answered…4mos4MO

Unions stand for a good cause but the power of the Union has fallen so much that its impossible to maintain or increase benefits.

 @B2D46RKRepublican from New York  answered…4mos4MO

Private unions help. Public unions should be banned as it is unethical for unions to negotiate with their bosses (elected officials) then have the ability to fund those officials election campaigns. This is not an issue with private unions.

 @B28FZPDDemocrat from Pennsylvania  answered…4mos4MO

Hurt, but economic growth is less important than public safety and fair working conditions. Labor unions are a net positive for this country.
