Yes

No, political advertising is one of the best ways for statements to spread through the audience now.

  @JonBSimConstitutionfrom Kentucky  disagreed…3yrs3Y

No

Only smear campaigns.

Or banning local ads to regions. Tennesseans should not see ads for Wisconsin senators.

No

If Democrats control YouTube, they can censor all Republican ads.

If Republicans control YouTube, they could censor all Democrat ads.

This is an important topic but it is unclear if this should be solved by law. The appropriate application of law is probably via another channel, namely monopoly approaches.

 @8KZ52SJ from Pennsylvania  answered…5yrs5Y

No, but they should be more intentional about their algorithms and balance of partisan representations

 @8FDMGXN from Kentucky  answered…5yrs5Y

It should definitely be cut down quite a bit, there are too many ads on political candidates.

No, but they should be completely unbiased

 @8NXQSMG from Pennsylvania  disagreed…5yrs5Y

Advertising is important to the advertiser. The advertiser wouldn’t be unbiased as it wouldn’t be advertising what they are being payed to advertise.

I believe that social media companies have a responsibility to ensure that political advertising is truthful, promotes healthy democratic engagement, and does not harm the social fabric.

 @9L74FFC from North Carolina  answered…1yr1Y

Not ban, but it should be firmly regulated. All ads of that nature should be clearly labeled as political in nature, and their source should be clearly identified and removed if the ad is clear misinformation.

 @9F9YKKQ from Washington  answered…2yrs2Y

 @9DNBB9V from New York  answered…2yrs2Y

No, but ads should be shown to all users and not based on personal preferences and algorithms

 @9FJ2QRBDemocrat from Texas  answered…2yrs2Y

I think for the times we are in now, they shouldn't, but they should absolutely have the right to ban it.

 @9DVYHVKProgressive from Ohio  answered…2yrs2Y

If it is blatantly false or slandering other candidates, then it should not be allowed. Otherwise, I believe it is fine.

 @9DRRZJZ from Alaska  commented…2yrs2Y

I don't trust the government to determine what is "blatantly false" and "slander" because of course this will be judged not impartially but based on what benefits the preservation of its own power.

 @8GB7G5H from California  answered…5yrs5Y

I believe they should have fact checkers, and block all political advertisements that do not contain fully truthful statements.

 @8WFLKTZ from California  answered…4yrs4Y

We should leave that up to the social media companies themselves to decide on the individual level.

 @8G9K2VM from Ohio  answered…5yrs5Y

No but if they're going to allow them they should allow them from all of the different sides not just from one specific party

 @8WDQZXN from Massachusetts  answered…4yrs4Y

Depending on the political advertisements, such as far left or far right propaganda that harm our current political sense.

 @9DRHX76  from Georgia  answered…2yrs2Y

Social media platforms should be neutral in that free speech be protected; as hate speech is not free speech, that would be an exception

If they want a political advertisement that is fine but should give all candidates a political advertisement so the people can vote for whoever

 @B56VPVT from Ohio  answered…1wk1W

It depends. On the one hand, it could take away the first amendment rights of citizens. On the other hand, if people are allowed to dictate conversations in their own homes or businesses, then social media owners should be allowed to dictate what is said on their platforms.

 @B568HT4 from Tennessee  answered…1wk1W

Political advertising should be allowed unless the advertisement directly supports aggression or similar behavior against their political rivals instead of informing.

 @B568CDSNo Labels from South Carolina  answered…1wk1W

Social media is responsible for the distribution of political advertising therefore it should be more unbiased.

 @B5683YT from Iowa  answered…1wk1W

It should only show people who are of the age of 18, requiring I.D. conformation will ensure protection. Only because people should be allowed to form their own opinions rather than watch political ads that mislead the youth.

 @B54JBZF from New York  answered…2wks2W

The companies themselves should not be allowed to advertise but their user base should, excluding employees.

 @B5423NB from Virginia  answered…2wks2W

No under most circumstances, but they should ban any advertising, including political advertising, that is found to have knowingly be spreading misinformation

 @TheHillbillyLordRepublican  from Maryland  answered…2wks2W

No, and social media companies should never be allowed to censor anything unless if violence is threatened

 @B4WYNVQ from Illinois  answered…2wks2W

no, but it should be regulated, social media companies shouldn't be allowed to run false political adverts

 @B4VLV8BRepublican from New York  answered…3wks3W

Although I personally choose to keep my political opinions to myself, people should be able to express their political opinions, as long as they do not contain threats or any other harmful information.

 @B4VKL9R from Texas  answered…3wks3W

Yes, social media political advertisements are difficult to fairly regulate and have a high potential for disseminating false information. Prohibiting them could safeguard elections and public confidence

 @B4ML2J9 from California  answered…4wks4W

We should work harder to promote equal spread of factual information. It is a big problem we have of misinformation, whether malicious or not.

 @B4LCM36Peace and Freedom from Texas  answered…1mo1MO

I believe that politicians should be able to use resources such as social media, but in a way that expands and helps their compaign in a way that is not excessive or dramatised

 @B4KJ657 from Missouri  answered…1mo1MO

This is a complicated issue and social media companies need to do a better job with blatant propaganda but banning political advertising entirely is problematic.

 @B4J2H9B from Illinois  answered…1mo1MO

If the company donates to a charity that believes more in one parties beliefs, they should have the right to promote that political party.

 @B4G6F82 from Washington  answered…1mo1MO

both political parties should have the same reach on social media adds. as long one political party is not being favored by the social media company

 @B4FNL7M from Illinois  answered…1mo1MO

complex issue; while it could reduce the spread of misinformation, it could also limit political speech; greater transparency and regulation of political ads might be a better approach

 @B4FCJW4Republican from Georgia  answered…1mo1MO

No, for the sake of combating censorship, the constitution, the 1st amendment(Free speech), freedom, federalism, weak government, democracy, and checks and balances.

 @B4F6R6N from Texas  answered…1mo1MO

they can advertice but not harras you. if you don't already vote and are participating then you should not be voting because something tells you to

 @B4D6KHP from Georgia  answered…1mo1MO

No, for the sake of democracy, freedom, the constitution, the 1st amendment(Free speech), capitalism, weak government, federalism, and checks and balances.

 @B4C6FCD from Missouri  answered…1mo1MO

Yes, but increase resources for public knowledge on candidates and their policies, and allow individuals to post whatever they like about either candidate so long as they're not a company.

 @B49ZKFT from Florida  answered…1mo1MO

Yes but still allow people to share their political ideologies and explain why they believe in that but no advertising for politics

 @B482LTDPeace and Freedom from Michigan  answered…1mo1MO

yes and no, they should advertise them to people of the older part of the internet, and limit them heavily so they are not played after every. single. video.

 @B42S6QZ from Washington  answered…2mos2MO

I think people should have the right to talk about political, even if others may not agree, freedom of speech.

 @B42BSRM from South Carolina  answered…2mos2MO

No. However, political advertising should be explicitly labeled so that it does not trick citizens into believing shady propaganda.

 @B3ZYM5D from Georgia  answered…2mos2MO

No, for the sake of freedom, the constitution, the first amendment(Free speech), democracy, the republic, weak government, checks and balances, capitalism, and federalism

 @B3STSQK from Oklahoma  answered…2mos2MO

BANNING IS CENSORSHIP, the furthest they should step is maybe to regulate the number or ads seen but the people should decide whether they listen or not.
