It is better to get undocumented immigrants into the public college system so that they can earn degrees and contribute to the economy. They are not wealthy and for all practical purposes, resident of the state. So, given them an opportunity to pursue college education will ensure that they come into the mainstream, become valuable citizens, pay taxes, and overall contribute to our economy. It is to the advantage of the community to offer undocumented immigrants in-state tuition.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...11yrs11Y

Yes

 @9FQK4YQ from Washington  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Why would we give an illegal immigrant in-state tuition prices while we tell the young adult that worked hard to get the grades to get into that school in that state that they have to pay a higher price? When you give to one group out of pity for their situation, you're telling all the other groups from the poor to the rich that that person is more important than them, that person is better than them, and that person deserves more. When you do that you create a hostile environment that breeds hate.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  commented…2yrs2Y

So then surely you believe in providing free/accessible higher education to all people, right?

  @TheHillbillyLordRepublican from Maryland  commented…3mos3MO

"Free" education isn't free, it's just paid for by our taxes, and this would put a heavy burden on tax payers. Truly free education would basically be enslaving teachers. All "free" education does it make it so that instead of the student paying for their college, the wealthier taxpayers pay for their college, which makes no sense, the student or their family should pay for their college. And the fact that illegals immigrants would get in state tuition rates at state universities would 1. use citizen's tax money to help the illegals which is stupid (because…  Read more

yes if your came legally you dont deserve anything if you came illegally why is someone that broke the law entitled to stuff when they have no right to be here if you want to come come legally

 @9F8B5FV from New York  disagreed…2yrs2Y

no they should not because many Americans are struggling to find jobs, get into colleges and lack the support they need when they need help with providing either for their family or themselves. many illegal immigrants are taking our jobs and causing more poverty and over population in certain parts of our country and its not fair that they can come to our country and take our jobs or have the government support the when our own citizens are struggling and are not getting much help if any because of them.

  @VulcanMan6  from Kansas  commented…2yrs2Y

So then do you support guaranteeing free college to all US citizens, or do you actually just hate everyone? Because you can't just use "Americans" as a prop to further deny resources to immigrants if you don't even actually support providing free resources to citizens either...

 @9L88VD3  from North Carolina  commented…1yr1Y

What made you jump to that conclusion? Illegal immigrants should be deported, not given favorable tuition rates for in state residents. I will agree there's a lot wrong with our education system, and tuition is inflated all around. Many students pursue degrees that are useless in helping them provide for themselves in a career, and either their parents pay out the anoos for it or the students themselves go into debt. We should stress the importance of choosing a degree that can actually help a student get a good job or career, and present alternatives to university like trade schools.…  Read more

We're not saying that education should be free to Americans, we're saying that education should be exclusively only for Americans. Even if the illegals have money, they still shouldn't be able to attend college.

 @9FSZF2Q from California  agreed…2yrs2Y

I believe undocumented students should have the same opportunities as every other citizen in the US in education .

 @9F84RFS from Texas  agreed…2yrs2Y

for example like honduras people are suffering because of the president he wants to make the country socialism.

  @TheHillbillyLordRepublican from Maryland  commented…2mos2MO

We should tell them "That sounds like a YP (your problem), not an MP (my problem)"

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...11yrs11Y

No, and all illegal immigrants should be deported

 @9FND73T from Tennessee  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If they have done nothing illegal like selling drugs or any felonies then they should get in state tuition the same as everyone else.

 @9R87RWS from South Carolina  disagreed…12mos12MO

No, they should pay the same rate as out-of-state students

them being here as an unborn citizen coming to America is illegal.

 @9FMYNHWDemocrat from Illinois  disagreed…2yrs2Y

All immigrants should not be deported, especially if they are becoming legal soon, they did all the paperwork and stuff so there is no point for them to be deported if they have a chance of becoming legal.

 @9F8B5FV from New York  agreed…2yrs2Y

they are causing overpopulation and our government is spending money on them when they should be spending that money on our own citizens in need.

 @9F8BKNV from Pennsylvania  disagreed…2yrs2Y

they shouldn't be deported because if they are here in the US it's for a better life They should be able to stay if they are here for a good cause and not get deported.

 @ISIDEWITHDiscuss this answer...11yrs11Y

Yes, and they should also be eligible for financial assistance and scholarships

 @9FNL5C6  from Georgia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Why should a criminal be granted financial assistance when they should not even be here. If an immigrant is suffering in their own country they should apply for citizenship and pay taxes. Then I will support them.

 @9FL7LY4  from California  agreed…2yrs2Y

The Center for Migration Studies of New York estimates there are more 1.7 million highly educated undocumented immigrants 18 and older in the United States. Approximately 1.9% of all students enrolled today are undocumented immigrants. Colleges already accept undocumented immigrants into their degree programs. They have the motivation to pursue their American dream, which is what brought them to the US in the first place. We should help them become contributing members of society, pay their taxes, and help strengthen our economy as a whole. It is also allowed for immigrants of any legal statu…  Read more

 @9FP8WVMRepublican from Georgia  disagreed…2yrs2Y

By simply accepting these undocumented immigrants into public Universities across the country, we are giving them no incentive to get to the point of paying their taxes, strengthening the economy, or even becoming legal citizens, because they have clearly already been shown that there is no need to do the work required for it. They are going to get accepted anyway without having to pay taxes to support the university that they're going through, giving them an unfair advantage agains legal children trying to get into to college but struggling to pay because of the taxes they are having to pay.

 @9K7ZGQ9Socialist from Montana  disagreed…1yr1Y

Yes, as long as they pay taxes

Illegal immigrants already pay taxes, they’re automatically deducted out of their income

 @9GC6NF9 from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If Biden has raised taxes, lower tax brackets can't help their kids pay for college. College should be free or at least at a lower price because $10,000 a year for school is crazy.

 @9G29XVFIndependent from Massachusetts  disagreed…2yrs2Y

Those who earn scholarships are those who should be rewarded based on ability, skill, and determination. The scholarships should have nothing to do with social background. Financial assistance should be given to those who need it.

Taxes don't give you citizenship, it gives you the right to make money in America

 @988NV6X from Virginia  agreed…3yrs3Y

Yes, but deny eligibility for financial assistance and scholarships

 @9GRZP64 from California  disagreed…2yrs2Y

If you deny eligibility then what's the point of trying hard for good grades or whatever if it's impossible for you to go to college with a scholarship? You'd basically be losing hard workers for nothing by revoking their right to financial assistance and scholarships

I agree because allowing undocumented immigrants to access in-state tuition helps them gain education, contribute to the economy, and become active members of society. It benefits the community by creating a skilled workforce and increasing tax contributions. Giving them this opportunity helps everyone in the long run.

Current in-state tuition prices should be the tuition prices for all students, including immigrants.

 @PleasedNominationLibertarian from Texas  disagreed…2yrs2Y

While it's understandable to want equal tuition prices for all students, it's also crucial to consider the financial implications for the state. In-state tuition rates are typically subsidized by state taxes, paid by residents. If all students, including those who are undocumented immigrants, are offered these rates, it could potentially strain the state's education budget. For instance, in California, a state with a significant immigrant population, this could lead to budget deficits or cuts in other important areas like healthcare or infrastructure.

However, I do see the importance of affordable education for all. Maybe there's a middle ground here? Perhaps a tiered tuition system or scholarships specifically for undocumented students? I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

College and further education should be 100% free for everyone, regardless of citizenship or social status.

 @9L88VD3  from North Carolina  commented…1yr1Y

This is a terrible policy. Nothing is free. This "free college" that you are arguing for comes from taxpayer money. Why should taxpayers, many of whom don't go to college, be forced to contribute to others' tuition? Especially when there is no guarantee that they will pursue a useful degree, or actually graduate, or use their degree to the fullest potential and set themselves up in the workforce after college. Many students pursue degrees that are useless in helping them provide for themselves in a career, and either their parents pay out the backside for it or the student…  Read more

Free education not only has been proven to work in a structured modern progressive society, lowers the debt ceiling, and feeds for an overall more productive and healthier economy. If this country utilized it's budget in more effective ways such as eliminating privatized schooling, or I'll even go with you on making it vastly cheaper, then there is not a negative outcome to be had in any sense. Sure you could make the argument that some degrees could be "useless" and I do agree we should encourage progressive careers, I am in full support of any form of further education…  Read more

If they are protected under DACA then allow them to attend school and charged in state tuition fees but they can not qualify for public scholarships. Private scholarships and grants are fine

 @B55BZ42 from Texas  answered…2mos2MO

No, because "undocumented immigrants" should not be an issue. It should be a MUCH easier process to get into our country legally.

 @Brandonnoe84Libertarian  from Colorado  answered…5mos5MO

No, illegal immigrants should be deported but with a simple path to citizenship for illegal immigrants with no criminal record.

 @9WDTKJ8 from Illinois  answered…8mos8MO

Again, this is ignoring the underlying issue. What processes we have for people to legally join our country, how to foster that in a more effective way, so that all those in our country are bound to the same rules and the same opportunities universally.

I don't believe those who break the established laws of the country should be given advantage over resident, taxpaying, citizens. Out-of-state tuition rates can be near double in-state rates, which I was forced to pay despite being a citizen my whole life. I'm all for educating everyone, but not incentivizing criminality.
