In June 2019 tensions between the U.S. and Iran escalated after a U.S. surveillance drone was shot down by Iran’s revolutionary guard in the Gulf of Oman. The U.S. claimed it was an “unprovoked attack” and the drone was flying in international airspace. 2 weeks earlier the Trump administration blamed Iran for the attacks on two oil tankers who were bombed in the Gulf of Oman. Iran denied any involvement. In early June Iran announced that it would break its uranium stockpile limit set under the 2015 Iran nuclear deal. Under the deal Iran was allowed to keep a maximum of 660 pounds of uranium enriched to 3.67%. Analysts predict that if the uranium is enriched to 20% or more Iran would be capable of developing nuclear weapons.

The 1979 Iranian revolution promised three goals: social justice, freedom and democracy, and independence from great power tutelage.
@9FLBD972yrs2Y
While the blow of an explosion can kill many million people in one blow, radiation poisoning is one of the most cruel way to die, as it leads to the body slowly decomposing itself. Most people are not able to properly protect themselves from radiation poisoning.
@ISIDEWITH6yrs6Y
No, the U.S. should encourage Iran to disarm through diplomatic channels
@9F7SL9N2yrs2Y
I personaly would not like to lose my life in a fight that does not effect me just because i got drafted.
@ISIDEWITH6yrs6Y
Yes
@9F8MGYB2yrs2Y
I'd reckon that the last time we went and invaded a random country would be evidence enough to not do it again. The invasion of Iran would be quick, the occupation would be long and drawn out. Do we really want another Iraq or Afghanistan?
@9JDGJQB2yrs2Y
We currently have 3 escalations in progress (Israel/Hamas, China/Taiwan, Hothies/US). To add another conflict would stretch our military resources to the limit.
@ISIDEWITH6yrs6Y
Yes, but only if they develop nuclear weapons
@9H4HP4C2yrs2Y
Iran having nuclear weapons is a threat to global peace and stability, that´s undeniable. But the US should not seek a war that would likely lead to a third world war. Fighting Iran with nuclear weapons is dangerous and we should try by every means to reach a diplomatic agreement. If that´s not possible than US must put effort in creating an international peace environment, based on nuclear disarmament. Concluding, a war at this point would bring catastrophic consequences to everyone, and therefore it must be avoided at (almost) all costs.
@9ZKV4439mos9MO
#4 Engaged Foreign policy #1 Expert Iran
I agree, if Iran was to developer nuclear weapons it would likely trigger and third world war. Plus you have to remember that even without nukes Iran is far more powerful right now then Saddam’s Iran that gout us drawn into a 20 year occupation in the Middle East
@9FLBD972yrs2Y
Nuclear weapons should generally not be used. Both the explosion as well as the nuclear fallout are completely inhumane and no matter what, they should not be used.
@9M7CZFP1yr1Y
If Iran acquired nuclear weapons, Israel's nuclear deterrence would be checked, because Iran would have the option to retaliate with a nuclear destruction.
@9FLRBWF2yrs2Y
I slightly agree with this, if Iran develops nuclear weapons then we should fright try t negotiate and then try using means of force
@9D5XBHH2yrs2Y
@9WBNTKJ10mos10MO
No, US should lift all sanctions on Iran and pay Iran all the economic aid to compensate for economic loss to Iran. Plus Iran should be allowed to keep nukes, and protect Iran against irasel.
No, but efforts should be made to destabilize the current authoritarian government there and support a secular democratic republic.
No, and abolish the military and reallocate funding to other areas including the U.N.
@8V6FNBF4yrs4Y
@9C5KXGM2yrs2Y
No, because war with Iran will only benefit Jewish interest.
@9DFXC6G2yrs2Y
No, only if they attack the US.
@8J8CLTQ5yrs5Y
@8YVT76P3yrs3Y
only if they do something to us
@B654BS51wk1W
No, I support Iran's sovereignty and right to self defense against. The U.S. should encourage disarmament through a mutual desire for peace
Deleted4wks4W
NO... the United States should not go to war with Iran. The risks far outweigh the moral, strategic, and practical justifications. War should be a last resort after verified existential threats, diplomatic exhaustion, and proportional calculus. A peaceful, restrained, and justice-oriented posture remains the only path consistent with first principles, human dignity, and long-term American strength.
@B5YP5YPLibertarian1mo1MO
Abolish the Zionist regime and any threat of extremism and radicalism [Dissolve Foreign Policy and leave NATO]
@B5WNNJ7Independent1mo1MO
Under no circumstances can Iran be allowed to develop a nuke because they will give it to a proxy who will use it on New York
@B5FZL5N3mos3MO
I do believe that we will come to war with Iran, but I think we should not initiate the attack, not only putting a better image on the U.S but it gives us a reason to fight.
@B536JHL3mos3MO
The US should first try to encourage Iran to disarm, but if they don't, warn them first, and if they still don't stop, go to war.
@B4RHR7K4mos4MO
Really depends, if they get nuclear weapons, we have to stop them, but if they have them they can use them, we need to stop them before they can get that far.
@B4HGTJ74mos4MO
No, unless the situation gets to the point where war becomes the only option and other approaches have failed.
I think that we should just stay dormant unless Iran decided to try and invade us, or capture a US citizen/soldier.
@B4F6FJ24mos4MO
We should not start a war with someone if we do not needed to, It just put us in danger but if we abssalutely need to then we shoud.
@B48VMCW4mos4MO
As of current day the US should monitor what is going on. If Iran makes any threat or gives any major reason to suspect war. Then the US should act accordingly
@B46MBKS4mos4MO
Only if they are showing a serious threat against us but we should make sure its a very significant threat.
@B42F5PG5mos5MO
America should do whatever it can non militarily to disarm and disengage Iran's sphere of influence if it does not fit in with Americas and or get Iran to join its sphere of influence
@B3J54FS5mos5MO
Be tough on Iran and make sure they don’t develop nuclear weapons. Make better relations with Iran through diplomacy.
@B3H4BMF5mos5MO
The US Gov should stop supplying the rest of the world with weapons of mass destruction, war is money for them.
@B3DJGCL5mos5MO
Going to war with any of our enemies leads to a larger fight than anyone should or really can handle, this will solve nothing and can end up making everything worse.
@B3C2QKD5mos5MO
the USA should be able to come to a peace treaty with iran reason being to solve it peacfully its not always about war
@B2MJBRG6mos6MO
No, but we should prepare to conducted targeted missile strikes should they continue to develop nuclear weapons.
@B2LWYX46mos6MO
No, use diplomacy and economic sanctions to influence Iran. Consider targeted strikes against Iran nuclear sites if they continur their nuclear program.
@B2HJ73C6mos6MO
No, Iran while being a threat should be heavily monitored and we focus on their proxy terror groups. China is the real threat
@HelcovichEmireRepublican 7mos7MO
No, what happens in the Middle East is none of our business, and we should not be getting ourselves involved in any way.
@B2DXJSR7mos7MO
If Iran threatens or endangers the stability of the United States and/or it's allies, or Iran's neighbors in the Middle East.
@9ZZGFZ68mos8MO
The U.S people should create a deal to disfuse the situation if not then the U.S army will fight for our country
@9ZSYW6G8mos8MO
Only after they exhausted all political conversation and if they present immidiate danger to US citizens in out our of the USA
@9ZM8JSG9mos9MO
No, we must at least help restore their country, not with a pro-american dictator but to aid civilians in rebuilding their lives.
@8Y2BBN74yrs4Y
Yes, but only to protect the human dignity of Iran's people.
@8VC6PMK4yrs4Y
No, instead stage a coup to overthrow the current regime, eliminating the threat of violence
@8V59M644yrs4Y
Yes and all muslim countries
@8FNMLSC5yrs5Y
No. Our conflict with Iran needs to be handled with diplomacy. Subjugation is not peace. We started the conflict, we are the aggressors here. We must take the steps to true peace through diplomacy and trade.
@8QN3CQ45yrs5Y
Only as an absolute last resort
@8G363ZF5yrs5Y
No, but keep the pressure on them
@9XSXYJY 9mos9MO
Yes the only way to destroy the regime and it's horrible tactics against it's own citizens and in foreign countries, is through direct military intervention. But make sure there is a stable secular liberal democratic government in place to take over immediately.
@9VLSNTTRepublican10mos10MO
If Iran attacks Israel America should be able to get involved and use necessary force to have them surrender
@9VBV96L10mos10MO
Yes, but only if the United States or her allies are attacked first. We should also work diplomatically to reduce tension with Iran.
@9TK3XJ411mos11MO
This is too complicated an issue for an easy answer. I'm sure the government knows much more about what is really going on. Trust the officials in charge.
@9TFMYJ4Libertarian11mos11MO
I do not want a war with Iran, but if Iran draws first blood, the USA should respond with such force that Iran never considers another fight with us. Too often, those in charges are not hard enough on evil. Respond to win and respond to set an example that we are not to be messed with.
@9TFJC3M11mos11MO
We should try and talk with them and figure something out and if they attack us first then I say we go to war
@9T6ZCBX11mos11MO
We should try a peaceful approach, if that doesn’t work and they attack first, then we can go to war using war rules.
@9T5HCCG11mos11MO
The next attacks by Iranian forces on any U.S. or allied target should result in a declaration of war and quick, decisive strikes.
@9SY3BRT11mos11MO
Yes but build a whole lot of bunkers first in case of nuclear war so that when radiation clears, we can come out and potentially take over the world and go to war only if Iran develops nuclear weapons
@missMoshie 1yr1Y
No, the U.S. should aid Iran and provide reparations for its covert interference with Iran's democratically elected leadership in the 1930's which directly lead to the current situation in the area.
@9M9KGVF1yr1Y
yes but only if they start to build a massive army and we know they are planing on attacking or mass producing nuclear weapons/missiles
@9M3KVCG1yr1Y
No, not yet. Unless Iran or their proxies hit us first, it is not yet in our best interest. Also we need to get our own military 'combat ready' first before we go into another war.
@9LZ6DC91yr1Y
No, but I believe we should find a way to remove the current regime in Iran as it is an extremely backwards State that heavily restricts the rights of it's people, especially women
@9LYCNWL1yr1Y
We should stop acting like Israel is an actual genuine positive influence on the Middle East and acknowledge Iran and other countries as political entities worth diplomacy
I believe that Iran needs help because they are so small, but I also think we should not use nuclear weapons unless absolutely needed.
@9LCFVL51yr1Y
I feel that if we go to war it should be the last option if there are no more ways to protect the US
@9LBNFPX 1yr1Y
Iran's capability of nuclear weapons must be curtailed. However, this can be done without "going to war".
@9L5TQ4M 1yr1Y
Yes, but only after the threat (Not Iran in particular) attempts to outweigh our capability to counterattack it.
@9KZZVGYLibertarian 1yr1Y
Depending on iran’s continuing interest in disrupting trade and attacking international waters and funding the houthis, missile strikes or covert operations could be in order. As for an actual boots on the ground war per se, no.
@9KZGCSJ1yr1Y
No, as long as Iran doesn't bother the US then they should be allowed to do as they please, including developing nuclear technology
@9KWYLXL1yr1Y
No only if the US or its personnel or assets are attacked by Iran directly. If Iran is back on track to develop nuclear weapons then diplomatic efforts should be made to develop treaties regarding this issue.
@9KDWFWS1yr1Y
An iranian nuclear bomb is the last thing this region needs, especially because Israel also posseses nuclear weapons. This region has seen enough blodd shed, but if Iran is so keen for a war against the US and Isreal, well be careful what you wish for.
@9KCX87K1yr1Y
yes, in fact, we should go to war with every single country and drop nuclear bombs on the weakest of them all.
Deleted1yr1Y
Both Yes and No; No, the U.S should encourage Iran to disarm through diplomatic channels; Yes, but only with missile strikes; Yes, But only if they develop nuclear weapons.
@9JTJWZ5 1yr1Y
No, the US should not affiliate with the Middle East anymore. The only thing they need to do is call for a permanent ceasefire. I would rather they BUY Palestinian land from Israel, and EVEN THAT is pushing it.
@9JP52SZ1yr1Y
Yes, but try to have them give up arms and have them never produce nuclear weapons first, if they don't agree, then go to war.
@9JCNDZG2yrs2Y
No, because we don't need conflict with other countries when we need to take care of things in our own country.
@9JC633B2yrs2Y
Iran is complicated, it is a human rights nightmare, and it needs to answer for US deaths and imprisonments. However I don't think a war is a particularly good investment for the US at this point.
@9J8R29N2yrs2Y
No, instead encourage ongoing protests against the theocratic regime and allow them to define the country they want to live in.
We should encourage disarm on both sides, and talk out borders, relations, politcal power, societal problems afterward in order to ensure peace.
@9J2G35G2yrs2Y
The US should put more money into education, health care, affordable housing, and the communities, not just the military
@9HZ9KZ8Republican2yrs2Y
No, but we should match their level of aggression and refuse to be bullied by a less powerful nation.
@9HZD2H4Independent2yrs2Y
Yes but only if there is evidence to support US troops, personnel, or facilities have been attacked.
@9HVMKS82yrs2Y
I don't want us to. But if Iran continues down the road it's on we may not have a choice. Stay out of it as much as possible unless absolutely necessary
@9HV5QFW2yrs2Y
No, and restore diplomatic relations with Iran because they are only developing nuclear technology for energy and medicine.
@9HV5NXX 2yrs2Y
No but we should retaliate in small ways to show strength over the most recent escalation on us in the Red Sea by proxies.
@mk 2yrs2Y
No, unless they attack the US homeland or US property or citizens abroad, then a proportionate response is warranted.
@9HSWCPJ 2yrs2Y
The US should do everything they can to have Iran disarm through diplomatic channels but then strike them with missles if they don’t.
@9HSQSSN2yrs2Y
Iran’s government is obviously horrible (partly because of the actions of U.S in the cold war) but we can’t trust the U.S to fight a fair war with little civilian casualties nor to deliver an ideal outcome, so no
@9HSPVFG2yrs2Y
No, the U.S. should only go to war when attacked directly and after a congressional declaration of war.
@9HRS3VW2yrs2Y
Not yet but they should be prepared to if Iran continues to fund terrorist organizations such as Hamas and Hezbollah.
